Moore, a former Miss USA, faced three trespassers who had scaled the gate of her Atlanta-area home a situation that could have ended very badly. She was outnumbered, and two of the three intruders were men. Fortunately, Moore had something to even the odds a firearm. |

A Detroit judge on Monday ruled a grandmother, whose grandson got ahold of her unsecured handgun and accidentally killed isn't a 13-year-old boy, isn't criminally liable.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy's office said it's reviewing the decision for a possible appeal.
Lise Cox, 58, left her grandsons -- 13 and 15 -- at home when she went to work. According to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, the teens retrieved her gun from beneath a dresser in their grandmother's bedroom.
The grandmother "was aware that both of her grandsons knew the location of the weapon and the ammunition," the Prosecutor's Office said in a charging statement. |

Civil rights icon Roy Innis, who for over 50 years in public life confounded stereotypes and the conventional wisdom of politics, died Sunday morning in New York City after a long illness. He was 82. Roy got up every day and followed his conscience on what he thought was right, and if that led him to collide with political correctness, he was willing to take the heat, said Wayne LaPierre, a longtime Innis friend and CEO of the National Rifle Association. A tall and muscular enigma wrapped in a conundrum, Mr. Innis was noted for being a compelling speaker at the podium but otherwise mild-mannered except when he wasnt.

Gun-rights groups have high hopes for a new bill looking to grant national reciprocity for Americans with concealed firearm permits, introduced just as President-elect Donald Trump prepares to take office. The bill, put forward in the new Congress last week by Rep. Richard Hudson, R-N.C., would allow gun owners with a state-issued concealed-carry license to have that license recognized in any other state that allows concealed carry. This also would apply to states that recognize so-called constitutional carry where a license is not required for a concealed handgun. |

State Rep. Stephanie Garcia Richard (D-43) will introduce a bill next week that would require criminal background checks for firearms sellers who are not licensed to sell but are looking to sell or transfer guns to another individual. What theyre trying to do is, if you wanted to go and buy a firearm from your next door neighbor, you would not be able to do that. They would make that illegal, said White Rock firearms dealer Stanley Hayes. It should be the same as you wanting to sell your car and you not having to take it to an auto dealer to sell it. |

We Americans love our guns -- and apparently, we love them twice as much as we used to. We first twigged to this trend in 2015, when an astounding story on The Washington Post's Wonkblog site revealed that the average number of firearms owned by a "typical gun-owning household" had roughly doubled between 1994 and 2013, to 8.1 guns per household. The trend has only gone up since.

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
In the end, more than freedom, they wanted security. They wanted a comfortable life, and they lost it all security, comfort, and freedom. When the Athenians finally wanted not to give to society but for society to give to them, when the freedom they wished for most was freedom from responsibility then Athens ceased to be free and was never free again.
