In a response to an armed carjacking incident in Chicago early Jan. 5, a man, after being forced out of his car at gunpoint, quickly entered his home and armed himself. He then confronted the carjacker, reclaiming his vehicle and held the suspect at gun point. The incident began when the victim, a 39-year-old man, was sitting in his 2021 Mazda CX9. An armed individual approached, threatened him with a firearm, and demanded the car keys. Complying with the initial demand, the victim handed over his keys and retreated to his house. |

Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day! The Margolin pistol emerged from darkness into international fame. Designed by war veteran Mikhail Margolin after losing his sight in battle in 1924, the economical .22LR was initially produced in 1948. Despite Margolin’s blindness, the pistol’s elevated sight plane aided rapid-fire accuracy by lowering the bore axis to align with the shooter’s shoulder. The design shared visual DNA with Kalashnikov’s AK-47, also featuring high sights for stability. |

California Gov. Gavin Newsom thinks the Constitution should be amended to accommodate the gun regulations he favors. But in the meantime, he is trying out a different strategy: If we ignore the Second Amendment, maybe it will go away. In 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the right to carry guns in public for self-defense, saying states could not require residents to demonstrate a "special need" before allowing them to exercise that right. |

Florida House Republicans are once again trying to lower the minimum age for buying a gun from 21 to 18, reversing part of a law passed after the 2018 massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland. That year, Nikolas Cruz, who was 19 at the time, killed 17 students and school staff members with a semi-automatic rifle. After the shootings, Florida's legislature and then-Gov. Rick Scott enacted a law that increased the minimum buying age to 21.

Michelle Lujan Grisham restricting people from carrying guns at public parks and playgrounds in the state's largest metro area and address gun violence as a public health crisis. The state Supreme Court heard oral arguments Monday without issuing a ruling in a lawsuit brought by Republican state legislators, the National Rifle Association and several residents of the Albuquerque area that include retired law enforcement officers, former federal agents, licensed firearms instructors and a gun-shop owner.

Everytown for Gun Safety, the billionaire-backed gun prohibition lobbying group, was making headlines over the weekend because a state-by-state new scorecard named California as “first in the nation” for having the most restrictive gun control laws. In a report published by the Sacramento Bee, Everytown—often mischaracterized by the establishment media as a “gun safety” organization—and its subsidiary, Moms Demand Action, were taking credit for tough gun laws. |

Boudreaux is referencing the zones created by SB2, a California law which was designed to go into effect January 1, 2024, but which has since been put on hold. SB2 designates numerous “sensitive places” in which licensed concealed carriers are prohibited from carrying guns for self-defense. |

The Supreme Court has held that the Second Amendment protects arms in common use for lawful purposes. But what does the phrase “in common use for lawful purposes” actually mean? The anti-gunners want to define “in common use” very narrowly to mean only the actual firing of a gun in self-defense. They argue that because firearms are rarely fired in self-defense, they aren’t “in common use” and, thus, can be banned. That’s a trap and one we must work hard to avoid falling into. Firearms are prolific in America and are commonly used every day for countless lawful purposes beyond the actual firing of a gun in self-defense.
