Though I turned 41 this year, I’d hazard I’m still among the youngest contributors here at GUNS — a motley crew consisting of a number of veteran writers I grew up reading. Today, I’m about to let you, dear reader, in on a secret I’ve kept from some of the fellas I revere because I feared it might lead to a few frowny faces. So here goes — when it comes to the single action revolver, I could take it or leave it. |

“Stand Your Ground” (SYG) laws let people get away with murder! They let white supremacists get away with the slaughter of black people! They’re racist, they’re worse than WWII and the Holocaust and slavery…ooops. Sorry. That was Sunny Hostin on the The View. We return you to a sane publication. |

Did a Saginaw man act in self-defense when he shot an inebriated woman pounding on his door in the middle of the night in 2021? Or did he fire the gun intending to kill her when neither he nor his family was in any real danger?
That’s the question jurors are attempting to answer as they begin their deliberations in the trial of 43-year-old Ramiro R. Garcia. Garcia is charged with open murder and felony firearm stemming from the fatal shooting of 23-year-old N’ala J. Wallace, on Garcia’s porch at 1813 Burnham St. in the early morning of July 5, 2021. |

“Minnesota’s refusal to honor other states’ lawfully issued firearm permits places an unreasonable burden on the Second Amendment rights of individuals like Mr. McCoy and Mr. Johnson who regularly cross state lines in the course of their work,” said Loren Seehase, senior counsel at the Liberty Justice Center. “There is no other constitutional right that individuals are prohibited from exercising until they’ve obtained permission from the state. No one loses their right to free speech or freedom of religion by simply driving from Texas to Minnesota—so why should they lose their right to self-defense? We ask the court to intervene and require the state of Minnesota to honor nonresidents’ Second Amendment rights.” |

Southern California is grappling with raging wildfires that have forced over 130,000 residents to evacuate, with at least five lives lost. As firefighters combat the flames, local authorities are addressing another threat: looters targeting evacuated homes and vulnerable communities.
Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman issued a strong warning Wednesday, emphasizing a zero-tolerance approach to looting, theft, and fraud. “Those who seek to profit from the pain and suffering of others will not go unpunished,” Hochman stated. He expressed gratitude for first responders working tirelessly to safeguard lives and property, assuring residents that justice will be served. |

The proposed bill aims to ensure that concealed carry permits issued in one state are recognized nationwide. President-elect Donald J. Trump, set to be inaugurated on January 20, has already pledged to sign a reciprocity bill should it reach his desk. |

Four Second Amendment petitions were distributed for the Court's conference on Friday January 10. I just posted on the merits of these cases. A dramatic development has just occurred showing the dire need for the Court to clarify its jurisprudence in this area. The best case to do so is Snope v. Brown, which concerns whether Maryland may ban semiautomatic rifles that are in common use for lawful purposes.
Here's the urgency. Yet another state, Colorado, is about to ban virtually all semiautomatic rifles, large numbers of semiautomatic pistols, and even a number of semiautomatic shotguns. |

Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., has introduced a bill to abolish the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the congresswoman announced Wednesday.
She argued in a press release the bureau should be eliminated before it "eventually" abolishes the Second Amendment.
“I cannot imagine under any circumstance or administration where the ATF serves as an ally to the Second Amendment and law-abiding firearm owners across America,” Rep. Boebert said. |

This is blatant bias against marijuana as a medication. I don't use marijuana, but in all my time of 47 years, I have met many people with chronic pain who attended pain clinics and they were prescribed scheduled narcotics. Of those known people who used prescribed scheduled narcotics like opioids, such as oxycodone and hydrocodone, or medications for the nerves or muscles like Gabapentin or alprozalam, none were concerned over their rights to own a firearm.
If utilizing prescribed medicine negatively affects a citizen's constitutional rights, then why hasn't the issue come to the forefront of societal conversation? |

In 2023, a prosecutor, using a grand jury, brought an indictment against Kendall Brown for robbery. The robbery indictment led to a charge of possessing a firearm while under indictment. The robbery indictment was dismissed, but the charge of possession of a firearm while under indictment persisted. Brown moved to dismiss the charge of firearms possession while under indictment. The trial court agreed and dismissed the firearms possession charge. The state of Ohio appealed. On January 3, 2025, the State appeals court agreed with the trial court in a split decision, 2-1. The Court found the statutory ban on possession of a firearm while under indictment was unconstitutional under the Second Amendment. From the decision, Ohio v Kendall Brown: |

Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) today joined Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) and colleagues in introducing the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act. The bill would allow individuals with concealed carry privileges in their home states to exercise those rights in any other state that allows concealed carry, so long as one exercises those rights within the limits of each respective state’s laws.
“The Second Amendment helps protect all of our constitutional rights. This bill would affirm Americans’ fundamental liberties while respecting every state’s right to make their own laws,” said Kennedy. |

A Republican state lawmaker from central Massachusetts has launched a multi-pronged attack on the state’s new gun reform law, arguing it wrongly infringes on the “sacred right” to keep and bear arms.
The law “ ... restricts our [ability] to carry and possess firearms,” state Sen. Peter Durant, R-Worcester/Hampshire, said Thursday, adding that the reforms in it “undermine the freedoms of law-abiding citizens and fail to address the root causes of violence.” |

The first step toward making their bad dream come true just took place with the introduction of the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2025, H.R. 38 by Congressman Richard Hudson (R-N.C.). The measure is already picking up support from major gun rights organizations including the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, National Shooting Sports Foundation, and Gun Owners of America, along with the National Rifle Association’s Institute for Legislative Action and U.S. Concealed Carry Association, Fox News said. |

Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) and Representative Richard Hudson (R-NC) have introduced parallel legislation to establish nationwide concealed carry reciprocity for law-abiding gun owners.
The Senate’s “Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2025” and the House’s H.R. 38 aim to protect Second Amendment rights across state lines, simplifying the legal framework for concealed carry license holders and residents of Constitutional Carry states.
Senator Cornyn’s bill, co-sponsored by over 40 Republican senators, would allow individuals with state-issued concealed carry permits to legally carry their firearms in any state with similar concealed carry laws. |

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms is urging law enforcement to reconsider selling their police-issued guns.
Some duty weapons traded or sold after police are done with them are being used to commit crimes, even murder, which WCCO and CBS News exposed last spring.
The ATF now shares data with law enforcement across the country, confirming more than 1,000 guns once owned by police were associated with a homicide. Even more were tied to violent crimes. The numbers account for 14% of agency guns traced over a five-year period from 2019-2023. |

Federal officials are cautioning state and local law enforcement against reselling their used guns to the public, saying the practice has sent tens of thousands of old police weapons into the hands of criminals.
The warning was the first in a series of recommendations made by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in its fourth and final installment of a multiyear gun trafficking assessment requested by President Joe Biden in 2021. |

State Senate Bill 3 would ban the sale and manufacture of semiautomatic rifles and shotguns that accept detachable magazines.
The measure would deem the manufacture, purchase, or sale of such semiautomatic firearms in Colorado a misdemeanor, with subsequent offenses being a felony. The reason the law is needed, according to sponsors, is that even though the state already has a controversial 15-round magazine capacity cap, guns still are for sale in the state that can accept higher capacity mags, leaving SB25-003 to "fully implement and enforce Colorado’s existing high-capacity magazine prohibition." |

A federal grand jury indicted De France on one count of violating a law that forbids the possession of firearms by anyone convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence.
The federal law also states that crime has, as an element, the use or attempted use of physical force.
The appeals court judges say that the Montana law under which DeFrance pleaded guilty, does not have that element.
Because of that, the federal law preventing DeFrance from having a gun does not apply.
“They're saying crimes of violence have to truly be crimes of violence,” Laslovich said. “And there can't be a possibility that the crime occurred because of emotional distress.” |

On Wednesday, a group of 41 Republican senators filed a new bill that complements efforts already underway in the House to knock down state barriers to concealed carry.
Dubbed the "Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act" and filed as S.65, the legislation is cosponsored by Senate Majority Leader John Thune. The proposal would ensure that the concealed carry rights in a person's home state follow them into any other state. In short, it would treat state-issued concealed carry permits like driver's licenses. It mimics most of H.R. 38, introduced into the House last week with 108 co-sponsors. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to permit the conquered Eastern peoples to have arms. History teaches that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by doing so. Indeed I would go so far as to say that the underdog is a sine qua non for the overthrow of any sovereignty. So let's not have any native militia or police. German troops alone will bear the sole responsibility for the maintenance of law and order. — Adolf Hitler, April 11, 1942.
