The Capitol Commission scheduled a special meeting for Monday to discuss banning open carry inside the State Capitol, just two days before the state legislature reconvenes.

Commissioner Bill Kandler says after years of restoration, they started building an expansion to create space for school tour groups. Then the pandemic hit. Protests increased in intensity, people openly carried guns inside the Capitol during legislative sessions, creating concerns about safety and intimidation of democratically elected leaders the commission's duties expanded.

"Being responsible for gun policy was something that surprised us and we took some time to learn a bit about," Kandler said.

That's how Mace described what happened as thousands of people breached the building in the heart of Washington — sending lawmakers into lockdown.

This week, Representative Walt Brooks (HD 75) filed House Bill 60. HB 60 allows a law-abiding adult to carry a concealed firearm in the State of Utah without first obtaining government permission while keeping the existing Concealed Firearm Permit (CFP) system intact. This is the number one priority for NRA in Utah, which will hopefully join 16 other states in allowing permitless carry.

As most are aware, there is a new and improved HR 38, a proposed bill that would enact national concealed carry reciprocity. The bill was introduced by Rep. Richard Hudson (R-NC) and is currently in the Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security. The bill itself is a recalibrated take on the last HR 38, likewise a bill that was intended to establish national concealed carry reciprocity.

A majority of Republicans (69%) expect crime to rise under incoming President Joe Biden, according to a new Rasmussen Reports survey released this week.

Mission First Tactical is known for a lot of things, including a wide variety of firearms accessories and related products. They have a full offering. So it makes sense that they would add a holster line to their proverbial arsenal. Such is the case with their outside the waistband line simply called the MFT OWB. The name may not be creative or catchy, but like the holster itself, it does the trick.

One hunt in 1985 was not productive, but I remember it as my Independence Day. I started duck hunting in 1971 with my dad, always at Bayou Meto Wildlife Management Area. I hunted only with him and my brother Brad. I followed Dad's orders, and I did it his way until one morning late in the 1984-85 season. I took John Healey, a classmate from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, to Bayou Meto and parked at the first Long Bell Access, the only place I knew.

I have reviewed a lot of firearms accessories over the years. During the course of my law enforcement career, I evolved my opinions as new products came out. So when something new comes along that seems to reflect the needs or tactics I hold dear, I pay attention. This led me to a bit of a philosophy when it comes to a fighting rifle.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise, and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks. — Thomas Jefferson, Encyclopedia of T. Jefferson, 318, Foley, Ed., reissued 1967.
