After 180 shots and one state championship, three members of the Thunder Bay Junior Air Rifle Team won first, second, and third place.
“When we got there, we walked into the range and it wasn’t open like our range, because we each had our own individual booths,” Morgan Arbour, member of the team and first-place winner, said. “It didn’t feel real. I was thinking, like, I can’t believe it’s happening right now.”
The entire team traveled to the Michigan 3-Position Air Rifle Civilian Marksmanship Program Junior State Championships in Bay City on Dec. 10 where individuals shot 60 shots each: 20 shots lying down in the prone position, 20 shots kneeling, and 20 shots standing. |

Under current law, a district attorney has the discretion on whether to issue a complaint to charge a person with a crime. If a district attorney refuses to do so, a judge can conduct a hearing to determine if there's probable cause to believe that the person committed a crime and, if so, issue a complaint.
Under the bill, if the district attorney refused to issue the complaint because the person has a defense of self-defense, the court may not conduct a hearing or issue a complaint unless the court has new evidence that the person's actions were not self-defense under the law. |

A Newport News jury found a man accused of a deadly shooting outside Menchville High School in 2021 not guilty of voluntary manslaughter on Wednesday.
The verdict for Demari Batten came in one day after his re-trial began. It took jurors about an hour to deliberate after two days of testimony and evidence.
More than two years ago, investigators said then-18-year-old Batten shot and killed 17-year-old Justice Dunham after a basketball game.
His father, Demari Batten's father Lemar Batten said after tonight's verdict: his son acted in self-defense. |

I know that some regular readers don’t like me that much. I have a nasty habit of not toeing the conservative or the Republican line. I’ve even done things like criticize Marge Green and defend the LGBT community. But, today, I’m going to surprise the people who don’t think I’m fair and even-handed, and take the LGBT community to task.
During the last days of 2023, a transgender woman in Maryland got shot in the parking lot of her apartment complex and died. Looking at pro-LGBT accounts on social media and LGBT websites, you’d think this was a horrific hate crime, “senseless gun violence”, and just more persecution of a marginalized group that’s just trying to live their lives. |

Judge Mark Kouris dismissed murder and other felony charges against Lashawn Denise Bagley, 23. Bagley was accused of fatally shooting Demetrius Allen, a professional bull rider known as “Ouncie Mitchell,” during a home invasion. The incident occurred shortly after Bagley returned from a night out, with Allen attempting to enter her home to retrieve personal items. Despite evidence of prior communication and Allen’s belongings at Bagley’s residence, Judge Kouris ruled in favor of self-defense, emphasizing the fundamental right to protect oneself from intrusion, particularly at her ground-floor apartment in a high-crime area. |

Defenders of LaPierre, mostly members of the lapdog NRA Board of Directors and upper-level paid staff, say he’s been unfairly targeted by anti-gun extremists in an effort to damage the NRA and its mission of defending the Second Amendment. LaPierre’s fans claim that he has been so effective in defending the rights of NRA members, that he became the primary target of anti-gun politicians like Letitia James, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, and former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg. The official line goes on to say that LaPierre was under constant death threats from gun control extremists, requiring him to have a 24/7 personal security detail, to fly exclusively on private jets, and to have “safe houses” ... |

Representative Thomas Massie (R-KY) has introduced a bill to lower the age to buy a handgun from a federal firearms licensee (FFL) from 21 to 18.
Current regulation makes it impossible for anyone under 21 to get a handgun from a gun shop because the FBI will not process anyone under 21 buying a handgun through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). The 1968 Gun Control Act expressly prohibits an 18 to 20-year-old from buying a handgun from a retail location. |

When Hauck demanded that he leave the property, troopers said Adams shot her through the door. She died from her wounds at the scene, police said.
Adams then "declared his intention to kill everyone" in the house, the release says.
As he forced his way inside, troopers said Adams' juvenile son shielded the others and shot his father "as he advanced towards them." Adams' wounds were fatal and he succumbed at the scene, police added.
Northumberland County District Attorney Michael O'Donnell has declined to press charges, "due to the nature of shooting being self-defense and preservation of life," the release concludes. |

A Phoenix woman had to resort to using her firearm when an intruder attempted to forcefully enter her apartment in the early hours. The incident occurred when she heard a man aggressively trying to break down her door.
After briefly coming face to face with the suspect, she feared the door would give way under his relentless assault. “It was going to come down,” she recalled, noting the door visibly bending under the force. In a moment of fear and determination, she warned the intruder that she was armed before firing two shots through the door. |

California Gov. Gavin Newsom thinks the Constitution should be amended to accommodate the gun regulations he favors. But in the meantime, he is trying out a different strategy: If we ignore the Second Amendment, maybe it will go away.
In 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the right to carry guns in public for self-defense, saying states could not require residents to demonstrate a “special need” before allowing them to exercise that right. Newsom responded to what he called a “very bad ruling” by backing a new law that makes carry permits easier to obtain but nearly impossible to use. |
