Homicide Drop While Gun Ownership Rises Shows Anti-Gunners Wrong, Says CCRKBA

"This week's revelation by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that homicide is no longer among the leading causes of death in the United States – at a time when gun ownership is at an all-time high – shows that the gun ban lobby has been wrong, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today."

"'The CDC's report for 2010 that removes homicide from the top 15 leading causes of death in this country coincides with a period of record high gun ownership,' said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. 'At the same time, increasing numbers of citizens have obtained concealed carry permits and licenses. This is pretty strong evidence that rising gun ownership does not translate to more violence and murder.'" ...

... "Here’s what McDonnell is telling us if he thinks it is legitimate to ban law-abiding and peaceable adults from having the means of self-defense on college campuses: If college campuses are safer being 'gun free,' then that principle must hold true everywhere--unless we are to believe crossing an invisible property line puts us under a magic spell where we suddenly lose the self control, morality and judgment we exhibit everywhere else, only to miraculously regain them when we exit the premises." ...

"A blockbuster revelation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, reported by both the Seattle Times and Tacoma News Tribune, shows that homicide is no longer among the top 15 causes of death in the United States, during a period when firearm ownership and concealed carry is increasing."

"This poses a dilemma for gun prohibitionists at Washington CeaseFire, the Violence Policy Center and Brady Campaign. Of course, all three include firearm-related deaths from suicide and accidents (both still in the Top 10) as 'gun violence,' but that may be a bit misleading. It depends upon one’s personal and political perspective." ...

CDC: Pneumonia Knocks Murder Off Top 15 Killers List

"'In its annual report on U.S. mortality, the CDC [Centers for Disease Control] said a condition known as pneumonitis had replaced murder as a leading cause of death in the country,' Reuters reports. 'The drop in deaths by homicides was expected. Last month, the FBI released a preliminary report on U.S. crime rates for 2010 that showed a 7.1 percent drop in murder between January and June, part of a wider drop in violent crime despite the country's ongoing economic troubles.' I wonder if the dramatic increase in gun sales and concealed carry has anything to do with the drop in crime and homicides—despite the media's fondness for linking hard times with hard crime? Correlation does not imply causation. But still. ..." ...

"H&K manufactures the HK416 for the military market. The gas piston M-4 seems to be working pretty well for them (i.e. it's still here). H&K doesn't hate you that much; they make a civilian upper receiver kit for your purchasing pleasure (also debuting at SHOT). So far so 5.56 NATO. This new rifle, the MR762A1, is a civilian version of H&K’s G28 currently in use in Afghanistan. It's a gas piston operated AR-10 rifle chambered in 7.62 NATO. I've never seen a good implementation of a gas piston in an AR-15 (or AR-10 for that matter), but I'm always on the look out for a new version to change my mind. "The M2 shotgun has been a staple of the 3-gun world, providing accurate fire and a fast cycling action. Turning a bone stock Benelli M2 into a true racegun takes some doing. There’s the magazine extension, bolt release button, magazine well… There’s tons of stuff to replace or modify to make the gun competitive. That includes firearms handling, and is sometimes a recruit’s first time on the range. Needless to say the equipment and skills used and learned at this facility carry some weight with the new recruits, which is why the news that FLETC is now banning the use of Blackhawk SERPA holsters at their facility is so newsworthy." ...

"Hollywood doesn’t call them 'set pieces' for nothing. Even in movies where the good guys’ gunfights go wrong the action has a certain inevitability to it. Stupid stuff is notable by its absence. No bumping into walls by accident. No tripping over things and falling down. No dropping the gun by mistake. No limp wristing. No bystanders causing complete confusion. No excruciating doubts. The first (pictured above) will be a Semi-Auto Sniper System, and the second one (after the jump) will be a M4-esque .308 rifle. Offset sights fix that issue by providing a second unmagnified option for shooters accessible simply by turning your gun to the side. Support for stricter laws on the sale of firearms fell from 49% to 43%, while those favoring the status quo went from 41% to 44%, and those favoring less strict laws, actually rose from 8% to 11%.

... "At the next stop, two LA County sheriff's deputies, one male and one female, boarded the bus and called the passenger by name."

"'They said get off the bus. She then started cursing at (the female deputy). You could tell she had special needs. After that they grab her, she curses him out, calls him a big shot, next thing you know he gives her a big shot,' Green said."

"That ruling only applied to Washington, D.C., and as it is not a state, the ruling was not incorporated into the rest of the states until the McDonald vs. Chicago Supreme Court case was won." ...
