On Wednesday, the opening day of the 2018 legislative session, Republican Sen. Owen Hill of Colorado Springs and Republican Reps. Lori Saine and Stephen Humphrey, both of Weld County, introduced bills that would overturn the ban. (Democratic leadership in the House immediately sent the bill to a kill committee.) Saine made headlines late last year after she was arrested at Denver International Airport for bringing a loaded gun through security. Prosecutors declined to file charges. |

FBI agents knew the gunman behind the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history left behind big caches of guns, ammunition and explosives when they sought warrants to search his properties and online accounts, according to court documents released Friday.
However, new questions were raised after a U.S. judge in Nevada unsealed the documents revealing some of what federal agents had learned about shooter Stephen Paddock in the week after the Las Vegas attack. |

It’s fears of tragedies like that, or worse, that have created a split among law enforcement officials over the reselling of confiscated guns by police departments, a longtime practice allowed in most states.
Juhl’s gun was among nearly 6,000 firearms that were used in crimes and then sold by Washington law enforcement agencies since 2010, an Associated Press review found. More than a dozen of those weapons later turned up in new crime investigations inside the state, according to a yearlong AP analysis that used hundreds of public records to match up serial numbers.

A Stanwood man with a lengthy criminal record faces more prison time after a federal jury in Seattle convicted him of possessing firearms and a silencer.
The case of Robert Stanard highlights a common way that criminals get guns: through the use of a “straw” purchaser.
Assistant United States Attorney Andrew Friedman, who prosecuted Stanard, explains: “Felons and other people with a criminal record who aren’t allowed to have guns who are looking for a straw purchaser will find someone with a clean record who will be able to find a gun; presumably someone they know, someone they’ve agreed to pay. Someone who is a friend.” |

Wilmington City Council unanimously approved a new law on Thursday that restricts the sale and use of imitation firearms, particularly for youth.
The ordinance, sponsored by Councilman Vash Turner, makes it illegal to sell fake guns to juveniles and unlawful for minors to possess imitation firearms without guardian supervision.
It also prohibits removing the orange plug that indicates a firearm is a fake and obscuring "any other colors or markings required by any city, state or federal law." |

I hate being forced to break the gun rights battle down on party lines. All Republicans aren't supporters of the Constitution and the right to arms, nor are all Democrats enemies of our rights, but the fact is, Republicans, as a party, have embraced the idea of God-given rights that include the fundamental natural right of self-defense, and Democrats, as a party, have embraced a view of rights that are granted by an expanding State, where protection is left to police, or for those so entitled, armed security details.

“The right to have a gun comes to you alone from God and no one should take that away from you. So if it's argued that a college is state property, well, if it's state property or if it's funded by the state that's our money. So if it's your money, you should be able to carry a gun anywhere you're paying for,” said Rep. Luke Simons, R-Dickinson.
Students remain divided.
“What do you need a gun for on campus? You can have them off campus for sure and if you live here then find an alternative, a lock box or something somewhere but it's unsafe. You don't need it. It's not required for life,” said freshman Ayana Blair. |

On Thursday, January 11, 2018, the League of Women Voters’ lobbyist, Stephanie Owens of Tallahassee, was in the House Judiciary Committee meeting to oppose HB-55 on behalf of the League.
HB-55 by Rep. Frank White (R-Pensacola) is a bill to authorize FDLE to collect background check fees from gun dealers by electronic means.
Sometimes when you think a group cannot be any more ridiculous, they prove you wrong. That was the case yesterday. |

The dramatic smash-and-grab burglary of a Bellevue, Washington gun store — the second such incident at that store in the past two years — was part of what appears to be a growing trend, according to data from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Insider Online spoke with ATF sources who confirmed that during the years from 2012 to 2016, gun store burglaries went up 48.01 percent, from 337 in 2012 to 558 in 2016. Data for 2017 will likely be available sometime next month, noted Jan Kemp, ATF information officer in Washington, D.C. |

About 100 gun rights supporters rallied on the steps of the Capitol building in Olympia on Friday, Jan. 12.
Most held signs and many carried pistols, rifles or knives.
“This is the safest day to be at the capitol,” Senator Phil Fortunato, R-Enumclaw said.
A long list of speakers, mostly Republican, voiced opposition to legislation they say would limit or eliminate their rights to bear arms. They called on lawmakers from both sides of the aisle to halt gun regulation bills.

Gun owners, packing heat and concerns, rallied on the steps of the Washington state Capitol in Olympia Friday morning.
Around 100 people, many with weapons on their hips or slung over their shoulder, listened to speeches from lawmakers and gun advocates about fears over proposed gun legislation.
During the speeches, Shana Veillette from Puyallup helped fellow gun owners identify who represents them in Olympia. She’s testified against gun-related bills before but said this year is especially concerning. |

You hope never to be in a situation where you need to use a firearm in self-defense, although.
If the day ever comes you may need to fire more than one shot to stop the threat. A Texas man struck a robber with five bullets after the criminal pointed a pistol at his children. The mother of the now dead man claims it was too much but it’s all about stopping the threat whether with one shot or 50.
The gun guys joined us on Top Story and the Texas story was one of just several issues during the hour. |

None of us want to think about it. We all want to live our lives with as little conflict as possible, and the simplest way to do that is to ignore the bad and focus on the good. It’s human nature to ignore the fact that evil is real. To do so though, puts us in denial and denial will get us killed.
That’s right. Denying what is happening, may very well get you killed.
How many times have you read a story about a terrible incident such as a shooting, a robbery, an accident, or anything else where evil rears its ugly head, only to hear the victim or survivor say, “This doesn’t happen here?” I’ve written about and talked about this for years. |

Pennsylvania residents can now legally use marijuana for medical purposes. Some 10,000 Pennsylvanians are now literally card-carrying marijuana users. If you have the card you can access marijuana for any one of 17 different serious health conditions.
That is great news for people with cancer, epilepsy or Crohn’s disease to name a few. The news is not so good for gun buyers or owners who need cannabis treatment.
As the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette put it, ”(S)ome sick people will have to make a difficult decision: Is taking the medicine worth surrendering what gun-owning advocates see as an enshrined constitutional right?” |

Diana Durkin was on her way back from Houston visiting her best friend when she spotted someone wearing a Texas Tech hoodie while in line for security.
Diana is a sophomore at Tech so, being a Red Raider, she threw her Guns Up as a way to say "hello" and show her raider pride. Instead of getting a response from the person wearing the hoodie, she received a tap on the shoulder from a Houston Transportation Security Administration agent. They wanted to question Diana for throwing up a gun symbol in the middle of the airport. |

When one governor signed an opioid crisis declaration this week, gun rights advocates were quick to push back, saying it might affect their Second Amendment rights.
In response to Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf’s declaration of a “disaster” in the wake of the opioid crisis, State Senator Scott Wagner, who will be running against Wolf for his seat in November, fired back:
“There is no reason why addressing this crisis should come at the expense of our Second Amendment rights,” Wagner said in a release, calling it "the wrong approach." |

Next Thursday, January 18th, House Bill 1122 is scheduled for a vote in the House Judiciary Committee. Introduced by Representative Ruth Kagi (D-34) in 2017, HB 1122 received a public hearing last year and a substitute version of the bill was moved out of the House Judiciary Committee. Thanks to NRA members’ and Second Amendment supporters’ continued contact with state legislators, HB 1122 never received a floor vote and was returned to committee for the 2018 session. The House Judiciary Committee is once again considering the bill and has scheduled HB 1122 for a committee vote next Thursday. |

Dismissing a Libertarian group’s lawsuit, a federal judge found that New York gun-control laws strike an acceptable balance between constitutional rights and the public safety.
Since July 2015, the Libertarian Party of Erie County and nine upstate New York residents have been fighting in a federal court in Rochester, N.Y., to overturn several statues in the penal code related to licensing. The laws state that applicants for a firearms license must be over 21 years old, have “good moral character,” have no history of crime or mental illness, and show no “good cause” to deny the license. |

Merced County Sheriff’s deputies confiscated a rifle from Atwater Mayor Jim Price after receiving reports that he was allegedly shooting squirrels while sitting in his truck.
CBS Sacramento reports that Price was allegedly “shooting at squirrels from his truck on the active airfield while people were nearby.”
One witness, James Allen, claims he was parked near the airport and heard one of Price’s rounds go over his head. Allen said, “He was [allegedly] shooting in my direction. As you can imagine, I got pretty scared, and I bounced.” |

More than 300 firearms are to be destroyed after they were handed in at Bristol police stations.
During a two-week firearms amnesty in November, members of the public were invited to anonymously surrender their guns and not face prosecution.
With surrender bins in police stations across Bristol, a total of 313 guns were surrendered over the two weeks – along with 120 rounds of ammunition.
Among those handed in were rifles, shotguns, pistols and revolvers, flare guns, starter pistols, air rifles, BB guns and a stun gun. |
