"The Supreme Court gave its conditional approval today to 'informational checkpoints' on the nation's streets, ruling that police may briefly stop traffic in order to inform vehicle occupants of a recent crime and ask if they have any information about it." ...

" 'The Fourth Amendment does not treat a motorist's car as his castle,' Justice Stephen G. Breyer wrote for the court. 'And special law enforcement concerns will sometimes justify highway stops without individualized suspicion.' "

"The U.S. Supreme Court ruled on Tuesday that police acted reasonably and constitutionally when they put up a roadblock to ask motorists for information about a fatal hit-and-run accident."

"The justices reversed an Illinois Supreme Court ruling that such checkpoints, designed to gather information, represented an unconstitutional search and seizure of evidence in the case of a man arrested for drunken driving."

"The ruling was a victory for Illinois, other states and the U.S. Justice Department, which argued officers should be allowed to set up checkpoints and briefly stop motorists when the purpose is to investigate a crime."

"Seven Arizona gun dealers sold nearly 2,800 handguns that were used from 1996 to 2000 to commit crimes as severe as murder, according to a report released Monday by a national advocacy group."

"The large number of high-crime gun dealers in the state, particularly in Tucson, 'should raise some red flags,' said Jim Kessler, policy director for Americans for Gun Safety, which analyzed 'trace data' provided by the ATF for a lawsuit by the NAACP against gun manufacturers."

-------
Typical gun grabber smear campaign. Kessler knows perfectly well that this raw data is not an indicator of any illegal activity, but the truth never stops enemies of freedom from promoting misleading information to advance their nefarious cause.

Report Details Crime Gun Sales (Another report)

"A relatively tiny number of gundealers in 22 states including Maryland and Virginia sold nearly 15 percent of the firearms traced by police to crimes nationwide in the late 1990s, according to a new study." ...

"Gun dealers and gun-rights advocates criticized the study yesterday, saying that dealers with high sales volumes will inevitably sell many guns that end up in police custody."

"The foundation 'is basically taking these numbers and attributing them to illegal acts which don't exist,' said Sanford Abrams, president of the Maryland Licensed Firearms Dealers Association and owner of Valley Gun, a Baltimore business listed in the report as Maryland's third-biggest dealer of guns linked to crimes. 'It does not mean that our dealers are doing anything illegal. It simply means that they are selling a lot of firearms, and a lot of them are stolen or end up in the wrong hands.' "

-------
Since when do the facts matter to the gun grabbers? All that matters is vilifying legitimate merchants, destroying their credibility and business and eradicating firearms ownership one small step at a time.

"Chuck's was among the dealers and manufacturers Mayor Daley sued in 1998 for allegedly flooding Chicago with guns that wind up in street killings. The lawsuit is pending in the Illinois Supreme Court."

"The owner of Chuck's has never been charged with a crime. When the store applied for a new federal firearms license last year, the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives approved the request."

" 'There was no evidence of any criminal wrongdoing that would prevent him from reapplying and getting a license,' ATF spokesman Tom Ahern said of Chuck's owner John Riggio..."

"Valley Gun Shop on Harford Road in Parkville is also listed as a high-crime dealer. Owner Sanford Abrams said he is angered by the label, saying the foundation is taking 'raw data and making totally false assumptions.' "

" 'We do nothing wrong,' Abrams said. 'We sell under the tightest security.' "

Even the ATF said the report was misleading.

"A Baltimore spokeswoman for the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives questioned some of the report's assumptions.

" 'When you have a gun store located in a high-crime area that does a high-volume business, a lot of guns will be traced back to them,' said ATF spokeswoman Kelly Long. 'It doesn't mean that [the store owner] is doing something illegal.' "

-------
Maybe if these business owners got together and sued AGS, these gun grabbers would get the message that using smear tactics and propaganda to promote their vile cause at all costs is unacceptable.

"A Minnesota gun shop is listed in a report of firearms dealers that sold the most guns later traced to a crime and linked to illegal gun trafficking." ...

"Monson said in an interview last summer that he bought the shop in June and had complied with all gun registration and background check laws."

"He noted then that the shop had a large volume of gun sales, which could explain why more of its guns were traced to crimes. He noted that guns could reach criminal hands through gun thefts, owner resales or auctions."

"Robbinsdale Police Chief Wayne Shellum said Monson and the shop's previous owner, Bill Penny, had been cooperative and that police hadn't received any complaints."

"A report released by a gun control group on Monday puts a Charlotte gun dealer among 120 it claims sold 15 percent of the guns used in crimes nationally or considered suspicious between 1996 and 2000."

"But a spokesman for the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, which collected the data used in the report, says the Charlotte dealer -- Hyatt Coin & Gun Shop -- is reputable, cooperative with law enforcement and does business by the book."

Even the ATF, whose raw data was cited in this vicious piece of propaganda, disputes the misleading conclusions of the report. But does that stop the gun grabbers? Of course not.

"A Columbus gun shop owner is outraged by a new report that claims that his shop sells guns to criminals, NewsChannel 4's Natalie Walston reported."

"The report by Washington, D.C.-based Americans For Gun Safety listed Vance's Shooters Supplies along with five other Ohio gun shops and 118 others in the country. The group calls on the government to shut down the shops."

"There are a number of factors in figuring out where criminals get handguns, Walston reported. Columbus police do effective traces, which makes any reported numbers appear higher than departments that don't do effective reports. That's one frustration facing the owner of Vance's Shooters Supplies, which is located on Cleveland Avenue..." ...

-------
But the misleading nature of their report doesn't matter to AGS, which is apparently vying for the title of "Most Irrelevant and Absurd" gun grabber group.

"Should unelected officials be allowed to order the confiscation of some or all guns and ammunition in the United States? This is the question posed by Sen. Jon Corzine (D., N.J.) and Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D., R.I.), in their proposed Firearms Safety and Consumer Protection Act. As one might suspect, the bill is about neither firearm safety nor consumer protection, but is an especially clever stratagem by the gun-prohibition lobby. The Kennedy-Corzine bill would give the Treasury Department and the courts nearly unlimited powers to restrict firearms manufacture and sales, and to confiscate guns."

"CeaseFire Maryland, the state's leading gun violence prevention group, is joined by key Marylanders in calling for an assault rifles ban in our state. A reception taking place in Chevy Chase, Maryland on the evening of January 12th will benefit CeaseFire Maryland's campaign to ban these military-style weapons from our communities. Leah Barrett, Executive Director of CeaseFire Maryland, said: 'Leading Marylanders are joining with us to demand a ban on semi-automatic assault rifles like the Bushmaster rifle used to terrorize Montgomery County just over a year ago. We hope that state legislators will follow suit and extend our 1994 assault pistols ban to assault rifles in the forthcoming General Assembly session.' Montgomery, Prince George's and Howard County legislators will be joining over 100 people on January 12th to show their support for a ban."

-------
Fact: The Bushmaster used by Mohammed and Malvo is not an "assault" weapon.

Fact: The "assault" weapons (cosmetic features) ban has not prevented crime with such weapons. As a matter of fact, according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, the percentage of crimes committed with such weapons has risen slightly after the ban was implemented.

"With Ohio's enactment yesterday of a law mandating the issuance of a license to carry a personal firearm to law-abiding adults, New York State today is among a shrinking minority of states that continue to enforce a policy of victim disarmament. Today, 37 states have laws that either mandate the issuance of a carry license to every qualifying adult who applies, or else do not require that a law-abiding adult obtain such a license in order to carry a personal defense firearm. Three of those states - Connecticut, Vermont and Pennsylvania - border on the Empire State. Their citizens are freer than New York's, and also safer. "One of the fundamentals of learning is repetition, and one would think the Rio Rancho School District has been through the "zero tolerance" exercise enough that officials there would finally get it. Alas, they haven't."

"The latest episode involves a 13-year-old middle school boy who was suspended for five days for having heartburn-relief medicine - for controlling intestinal gas - in his possession. Somebody alert the Drug Enforcement Administration."

Gone are the days when robbing a bank was a good way to get shot. These enterprising bank robbers have quite the success ratio. In a day when all it takes to rob a bank is a note, is anyone surprised?

-------
"The FBI said Tuesday that it needs the public's help in finding three men dubbed the 'Till,' 'Fedex' and 'Uncle Fester' bandits for robbing Southern California banks."

"Surveillance cameras recorded excellent photographs of the men during robberies in Los Angeles and Orange counties, but they are known only by their code names, the FBI said."

"The Till Bandit is believed responsible for robbing six banks in September and got his name from demand notes that read: 'Give me all the money in your till.' " ...

A truly disturbed man murdered his wife and two daughters and then set fire to their bodies. He's being arraigned on multiple felonies and could get the death sentence.

The eye-opening part of the case is the fact that the police were called out on domestic disputes 18 times but the man was still living there. Deputies were due to force him out of the home the day he lost it and turned psycho.

Moral of the Story: paper doesn't protect you, and in many cases neither do the police. Which would be better: three dead innocents, or one dead attacker? You read the story and be the judge. Hanging is too good for this bastard.

"Prime Minister Paul Martin is caught in the crossfire over Canada's firearms registry. It's clear he'll not find political safety for long by ducking behind vague promises of a review."

"On one side is a majority of western Canadians who are steadfastly opposed to the registry. They see it as a symbol of how western opinions are ignored by Ottawa, as a colossal waste of taxpayers' money and as an assault on their individual rights." ...

"On the other side is a Canadian public acutely aware of violent crime and firearm safety, demanding some sort of gun control to make them feel more secure. Support for the registry is strongest in Ontario and Quebec, traditional Liberal strongholds."

This is a reminder/warning. We've seen self-defense stories where home owners would have been victims if they hadn't answered their doors with pistols. This unarmed woman never had a chance.

-------
"Police say a masked man barged into an Olathe woman's home, tied up the resident and used a stun gun on her several times." ...

"The 67-year-old woman told officers a man appeared at her door with a clip board, and she assumed he was there to make some sort of delivery. When she opened the door, the man forced his way inside, tied her up and took her into the basement, where he used a stun gun on her several times, police said." ...

"A pro-Second Amendment group calls it outrageous that a suburban Chicago homeowner faces criminal charges for defending his family - by shooting a burglar who broke into his home several times."

"Blame it on 'regressive, Draconian' Illinois gun laws, said the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA)." ...

" 'Carpenter has the audacity to claim that Wilmette residents are much safer without a handgun in the home,' Gottlieb added. 'What he's really saying is that burglars and home invaders are a lot safer if they enter unarmed Wilmette homes, and he seems eager to maintain that safe working environment for criminals.' "

"Gun-control advocates, heartened by Democratic gains in the House last fall, will push to keep guns worn in plain sight out of bars just as concealed guns are, and to give local school divisions the option of enacting their own firearms bans."

"Other bills would require vendors at gun shows to conduct the same sort of criminal background checks on gun purchasers that firearms retailers already do and to require that people receive training in use of firearms before they are granted concealed weapons permits."
