"There is a nationwide alert to members of law enforcement regarding a new kind of handgun which can render a bulletproof vest useless, as first reported by NewsChannel 4's Scott Weinberger."

"The most shocking fact may be that the gun -- known as the 'five-seven' -- is being marketed to the public, and it's completely legal." ....

"The five-seven is made by FN Herstal, a Belgian company. On its Web site, the company boasts the five-seven's ability to penetrate more than 48 layers of Kevlar -- the material bulletproof vests are made of -- if you use a five-seven, 28-mm armor-piercing bullet." ...

"One of the newer gambits used by anti-hunting and anti-gun groups is to partner with businesses and get those businesses to donate a small percentage of the purchase price of their goods to the anti-organizations."

"A major department store put anti-hunting stickers on its 'Winnie the Pooh' line of children's clothes. Iams/Eukanuba was donating part of its dog food profits. The Accord Hotel chain (Red Roof, Comfort Inn, others) was spending as well."

"The sales pitch these businesses bought into was simple: Donate, say, 5 percent of your sales to PETA, HSUS or Fund for Animals, and your sales will increase by at least 6 percent. You end up ahead." ...

"Shares of Taser International, the manufacturer of stun guns whose safety has been questioned, rose more than 22 percent yesterday after the company said a newly published scientific study affirmed that the gun's electric shocks do not cause cardiac arrest and 'may be safely applied multiple times if needed.'"

"The news release issued by Taser quoted directly from the study but did not list the four authors, two of whom are Taser executives. The release also said that the study was published in a prestigious peer-reviewed journal, Pacing and Clinical Electrophysiology. "With public fears of a police state being created in Green Bay, Wis., law enforcement authorities are dropping a new policy where officers collected fingerprints from traffic violators."

"'The news media blew it out of proportion,' Police Chief Craig Van Schyndle told the Green Bay Press Gazette."

The air pistols' safety might move from the engaged or 'safe' position to the disengaged or 'fire' position when the trigger is pulled once or more and then released. This poses a risk of serious injury if the air pistol is loaded and unintentionally fired."

"Appearing Tuesday before the D.C. Court of Appeals, attorneys representing gunshot victims and their families, gun control advocates and the city government argued that unless their suit is allowed to proceed, they will never have the access to internal company records that could prove their claims against the manufacturers."

"Last April, a three-judge panel gave the plaintiffs a modest reprieve, reversing a lower court that had dismissed the suit on a couple of points. But the panel threw out a number of arguments in the suit, and both sides asked that the full court, the District's highest, hear the case." ...

"Someone is clearly failing in their job when police sources admit that there could be up to 100,000 illegal firearms in Jakarta. There is something even more seriously wrong when supposedly sane gentlemen can so easily pull out guns and threaten and shoot people who pose absolutely no threat to their safety."

"Several cases in recent months have highlighted once again the emerging danger of the use of guns -- legal and illegal."

"It leaves those residents without a gun -- and who have never desired one in the first place -- fearing even more for their safety. It is one thing to be a victim of a crime involving firearms, but it is completely different when a shooting is committed by 'supposedly' licensed owners." ...
