"The NRA may not be actively funding gun lobbies around the world—the organization claims its charter prohibits it—but its influence is felt in much more than dollars. It lends support to the anti-gun control effort at the United Nations. It promotes lines of argument, strategy, and political tactics that others adopt for local use. And, if you contact the association, its representatives will come to explain how to get it done. Although many of the NRA’s members may not own a passport, their leaders are savvy operators in international politics. For all their red-blooded American pretensions, they have a deep understanding of how globalization works. ..." |

"The Brady group and its congressional supporters are proceeding, and making headway, with a below-radar effort to ban operating firearms from the general public, without having to actually disarm America's 80 million gun owners."
"The plan is now evolving around an innocent-sounding new legal term. It was tucked deep in a 400,000-word spending bill under president Clinton (law # P.L. 105-277), and it is now spreading throughout federal gun laws. Its latest use, the eighth, is in the frivolous-lawsuit ban just enacted (The Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, law # P.L. 109-92; S.397). Described at the end of this report, it accents a liability all Americans -- not just gun owners -- are increasingly under, a tightening legal noose few people realize is around their necks." |

"It wasn't until Thursday morning that a Durham County sheriff's deputy discovered that he'd left his cruiser unlocked overnight." ...
"Authorities say a pump-action shotgun, a two-way radio and keys to a Durham public school were taken from the cruiser either late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning. The deputy noticed the items were gone around 6:30 a.m."
"Captain Ricky Buchanan said it's the deputy's responsibility to keep his cruiser locked. Buchanan said the deputy thought the gun was secure because it was in the trunk, but all the thief had to do was reach inside the car and pull a lever to release the trunk lock."
"It's not yet known if the deputy will face any sort of action." |

"Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver touched off a firefight over guns yesterday, alleging that Gov. Pataki and other state Republicans were letting the National Rifle Association call the shots on pending gun bills in Albany. 'The NRA is ensuring that the back door to illegal guns remains open in Albany,' Silver, a Manhattan Democrat, charged on the steps of City Hall."
"Could it be... that our friends in the state Senate or the governor's office are more concerned about protecting their contributions from the NRA than they are about protecting our law enforcement officers?" |

"While maneuverings around Iran and chatter about human rights reform have dominated the headlines coming out of Turtle Bay, another issue is lurking. Delegates have gathered at a preparatory committee meeting to plan a conference that will conduct a five-year review of the United Nations' efforts to combat the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons. In other words, the United Nations is presenting itself with yet another opportunity to try to clamp down on the gun trade, which should make Americans who still care about the Second Amendment nervous." |

"Some state lawmakers are looking to extend Georgia's already robust laws protecting citizens who own guns or act in self-defense. House Bill 998 would allow gun owners to keep a gun in their car when parked, even if a business bans guns from their parking lot. Senate Bill 396 would mirror a law passed in Florida last year, ensuring that anyone who is attacked while behaving lawfully would have the right to "stand their ground" and defend himself or herself. The law would authorize deadly force if the attack could reasonably be considered life-threatening." |

"Firearms permit holders are reminded that they must ensure that firearms are stored in a safe and secure place to prevent theft or interference."
"An essential requirement that is contingent to all firearms license holders is to have a secure safe that cannot be breached and an alarming device is also recommended. The safe should have two independent means of opening i.e. two keys or combination dial and key."
"Prior to the grant of any permit, officers will come to the residence of the permit holder and physically check the efficacy of the faculty used to store the firearm and give any advice if needed. Additionally, police say that random checks will be carried out and those in breach of the requirements will have their license terminated or not renewed." |

My daughter sent me this from NC State University.
January 13, 2006 at about 2:45 am a student was headed to his residence hall room. A male sitting on a bench on the sidewalk of Dunn Ave, and using a cell phone, called to the student, asking for directions. As the student approached a second male jumped from behind cover, pointed a small revolver at the student, and demanded his wallet. Click on Community Crime Alert.
My daughter's Comments: Read what campus police just sent to us below! This happened on campus!! Because guns are not allowed by honest citizens, and criminals don't care about laws, these criminals took full advantage because they KNEW their suspect was unarmed. |

"Rachel Tretter lay down, shouldered the rifle, steadied her aim and fired. The black dot disappeared in the white target 50 meters away, indicating a hit."
"'Was that the one you were aiming for?' her father teased.
"'Actually, it might have been,' she said. Then the 15-year-old from Westchester fired four more times, emptying the clip, hitting the last four targets. When she first heard of biathlon, which combines cross-country skiing with shooting, she wondered who came up with that combination. After trying it at Lake Placid, she said it was fun, though riding is her sport. She'd fired a gun once before, shooting skeet on a family trip out west." |

"Assembly Bill 9280 attacks gun owners and sportsmen by placing unnecessary burdens on businesses that sell firearms and ammunition to law abiding sportsmen. The bill, authored by Assemblywoman Amy Paulin, D-Scarsdale, requires retailers to remove firearms from display each night and place them in a vault. It also requires that ammunition be removed from displays and stored where it is accessible only to employees, similar to controlled substance like pharmaceuticals or tobacco products. This prevents customers to browse and compare ammunition. AB 9280 passed the Assembly on Jan. 9 by a vote of 89-45." |
