The President said taking away our guns will make us safer. Some reporters said the same thing. They say a good guy with a gun never stops a bad guy with a gun. Well isn’t this a surprise. Here are five examples of self-defense that happened within the last month. They show people who not only stopped a criminal and saved lives, but these armed victims may have stopped mass murder!

Politicians and the news media says it doesn’t happen, but armed citizens defend themselves every day. You always suspected that was true. Now you know.

Several other liquor store owners in the area responded to the recent robberies by re-evaluating their own security measures. Locks, cameras, guard dogs and guns, they hope, will keep them from being the next target.

On top of security cameras, panic buttons and more frequent trips to deposit cash in the bank, J's Liquor owner Iqbal Hunjan said he started allowing employees to carry a firearm.

Owners of mom and pop shop Liquor Spot, Santos and Tammy Huizar, are also armed.

Having been at the North Nevada Avenue location for 15 years, Tammy Huizar is on a first-name basis with most customers. Those she doesn't recognize automatically put her on guard, she said.

Most of the all too routine and gruesome mass shootings at schools and other public places are committed with military-style assault rifles and concealed handguns with large capacity ammunition magazines. These weapons of war are designed to cause the maximum damage in the shortest time without having to reload.

Cruz said at the debate: "California Senator, Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein said if she could say to Mr. America and Mrs. America, 'Give me your guns, I'm rounding 'em up,' she would."

One of a growing number of rural and big-city law enforcement officials who openly encourages responsible gun ownership, Judd believes guns allow citizens to defend themselves when police cannot.

The Manchin-Toomey Gun Myth

The kicker: Manchin-Toomey requires you to get a background check for a private sale at a gun show, but it doesn’t require anybody to give you one. Doing a background check on someone you’re not selling a gun to is actually prohibited—a separate federal crime. Use of NICS is reserved to FFLs for prospective sales. You can’t look up your daughter’s boyfriend, or anything else, on pain of prison, fines and loss of license. Sloppy drafting? No—they’re asking us to accept myths.

Licensing and registration of all guns is an important first step. And as with the licensing of drivers and registration of automobiles, there must be certification that the owner of the device has some simple understanding of the use of the gun and how to store it safely.

I am suggesting a qualified person test an individual to determine the person has the ability to use the weapon in a safe manner and that written testing shows the person knows the rules for safe storage of the weapon.

And there must be a waiting period until the gun is registered, and the person is licensed to own the weapon. It is also prudent that the proposed owner of a gun undergo a background check.

Sometimes technology is awesome.

Considered a gimmick years ago, lights and lasers for handguns are now standard equipment and few gripe about reliability concerns.

Thanks to innovations like miniaturization of lasers, advancements in battery technology, and low power consumption LED lights, you can add light and laser capability to a small concealed carry gun while only adding a couple of ounces to your carry package.

On Tuesday in Florida, state lawmakers gathered to start their 2016 session, and will soon consider two gun bills: one to allow 1.5 million Floridians with concealed-carry permits to carry their firearms openly, the other to allow guns on college campuses.

Despite the gun control movement’s momentum in recent years to pass many new restrictive laws, today only Florida and four other states – California, Illinois, New York and South Carolina – prohibit open carry. The other 45 allow it to varying degrees.

Although it's unlikely the proposal will get a vote before the end of the legislative session, a handful of school officials from around the state support a bill that would allow people with concealed weapons permits to carry guns on school grounds and, in some cases, inside school buildings.

Meanwhile, the state agency that oversees public education opposes the effort.

A Garland homeowner who shot and killed a man in his driveway isn’t speaking publicly about it, but police say for now they don’t expect to charge him with a crime.

Authorities have not identified the 47-year-old man killed, but police say it was his ex-girlfriend who warned the homeowner he was coming back, and that’s why the homeowner was ready for him.

Tampered home surveillance equipment is the first sign that this was not an ordinary crime. Police say that and a warning phone call is what caused a homeowner to grab his gun and go outside.

A religion that teaches its most devout followers to kill non-believers (“infidels”) if they will not convert is not a religion of peace. But what is it? If it is inherently violent, why is it entitled to the rights and protections afforded by the First Amendment?

Maybe it’s time to look at radical Islam not simply as a strange religion with a 7th Century worldview but as a mental disorder with murderous implications for all of civilization. The evidence for that conclusion is abundant for anyone without moral blinders, but it is resisted because of political correctness.

The ladies met at the Brooklyn Sportsmans Club to talk shooting and safety.

"Educate, empower and equip."

Several sheriffs are openly encouraging Americans to arm themselves to stop terrorists and criminals.

In December 2015, Garvin County, Oklahoma, Sheriff Larry Rhodes advised people to arm themselves because of terrorism.

“If an international threat or a domestic threat believes that the citizenry may be armed, they're going to go elsewhere," Rhodes told KFOR.

He even waved all fees involved with obtaining a gun license.

A bill to let permit-holders carry concealed guns on Wisconsin school grounds is "highly unlikely" to pass this session. G-O-P Assembly Speaker Robin Vos says he supports it, but time is running out for a session he hopes to end in February.

Vos says guns-in-schools is not a high priority for his fellow Republicans, and there are not many in the public who are asking for it. Two G-O-P lawmakers announced the measure this week, saying it would prevent concealed-carry permit holders from being arrested for guns they have in their cars as they take their kids to-and-from school.

If one Alabama Senator has his way, 2016 will be there year the state finally allows law-abiding citizens to carry loaded handguns in their vehicles without the need to pay for a concealed carry permit.

Senator Gerald Allen (R-Tuscaloosa) shepherded the bill through the Alabama Senate last year, but it ultimately died in the House.

“No one is required to have a permit to keep a handgun in his or her house. The Castle Doctrine states vehicles are an extension of a person’s home,” Allen explained. “Therefore, adults should have the right to carry a pistol in their car without a permit.”

His argument was not enough to persuade the House to act.

Recently he announced executive action to ramp up background checks on gun sales, specifically targeting what some call the "gun show loophole," which keeps private sellers from having to run background checks in many states.

The action comes just prior to Crossroads of the West Gun Show setting up in Costa Mesa. It's one of the largest gun shows in California and owner Bob Templeton said he expects a record crowd.

"Gun shows are not a source of crime guns, there is no loophole as such that people can just walk in and buy a gun and walk out," he said.

California law requires private vendors to use a transfer dealer who runs a background check and holds the gun for 10 days.

A Bridgeport man, who had his gun holstered while waiting in line at a Subway restaurant was confronted by police earlier this week. When he refused to produce his permit, it brought new language in Connecticut’s open carry law to the forefront.

A Bridgeport officer who had been waiting in the line before Dontrell Brown noticed a bulge beneath Brown’s shirt and commented about the gun.

Brown told FOX 61 what happened next: "Well, you have a gun. So then he said, 'do you have a permit?' And I'm like why? He said 'because I (expletive) said so.'"

But, according to the newly written law, police may only request a permit if there is reasonable suspicion of a crime.

“When a gun is found and somebody calls in and says, ‘We found a gun,’ we run it to see that it’s not stolen or anything like that,” Ross said.

The gun was clean, and by that time the owner had discovered his loss and was looking for his property.

Because no law or resort rule was broken, the man wasn’t interrogated, Ross said, but was treated as a citizen who needed help recovering a lost item.

“We were able to reunite him with the gun,” Ross said.

NE: Nebraska Preemption Bill Expected for First Floor Debate Next Week

As early as next week, Legislative Bill 289, the state preemption bill, could be on the calendar for its first floor debate in the Nebraska Legislature.

As previously reported, LB 289, sponsored by state Senator Laura Ebke (32), would protect the Second Amendment rights of all Nebraskans by creating a preemption statute to ensure that firearm and ammunition laws remain consistent across the Cornhusker State. This is much-needed legislation that would help prevent a complex patchwork of regulations across the state which make it difficult for responsible firearm owners to ensure they are following the law.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
The right of citizens to bear arms is just one more guarantee against arbitrary government, one more safeguard against tyranny, which though now appears remote in America, history has proven to be always possible. — Senator Hubert H. Humphrey
