When Seattle’s KIRO, the local CBS affiliate, asked whether bump stocks should be banned, an online — and unscientific — poll showed a majority of respondents have said “No” by a wide margin.
According to the poll results at this writing, 64 percent of poll participants oppose the idea of banning the controversial accessory, while only 32 percent support the proposed ban. A hearing held Monday before the state Senate Law & Justice Committee in Olympia that drew about 1,000 people also revealed strong opposition, and also considerable support. |

With music blaring, cowbells ringing and the audience cheering behind them, marksmen young and old took aim in a competitive shooting event unlike any other.
On Saturday, the Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center hosted what has grown to become the highlight of the three-day Camp Perry Open match, the “Super Final,” a rare competitive shooting event that invites audible distraction from spectators.
The Camp Perry Open began around 13 years ago, just a few years before the then-new competition center opened a decade ago, according to CMP program coordinator Brad Donoho.
“We decided to grow this small event into a bit of a bigger one,” Donoho said.

Several gun control measures that Governor Ralph Northam included in his legislative priorities for the 2018 General Assembly session were voted down by the Senate Courts of Justice committee Monday morning. Legislation requiring background checks for all gun purchases, punishing people for carrying firearms in areas where alcohol is served, allowing localities to ban firearms at permitted events, and requiring gun owners to report lost or stolen guns all failed mostly along party line votes. |

Differences of opinion exist as to the overall effect of hunting efforts, especially big, organized hunts, on coyote populations. Many hunters believe taking out coyotes helps wild-game populations by removing a top-end predator from the landscape, although no eradication attempt has been 100-percent effective.

Vermont has a traditional hunting culture and is counted among a small group of states with liberal gun laws. Residents can conceal and carry a gun without a permit, for example, and there are few restrictions on where gun owners can carry firearms — guns are prohibited only on school grounds, school buses, courthouses and the Statehouse. While background checks are required for new gun purchases, secondhand firearms can be sold without a review of the purchasers' criminal background through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System.

The Kansas Court of Appeals has upheld the conviction of a onetime Wichita State University student who was arrested for carrying a loaded gun in the lobby of a campus apartment building – an act that is no longer illegal. But while the issues in the case are largely moot since the Legislature legalized campus carry three years ago, the details point to what could be an unintended loophole allowing criminals who are barred from carrying a gun to get away with it. |

My experience with immigration reform goes back to 2006-7. I remember the marches, McCain-Kennedy, and other efforts over the years. You can put me down as someone who was willing to legalize some of these individuals on a work visa basis but never a path to citizenship. I also wanted them to pay a fine and go through a background check here and in their country of origin. |

At the state capitol Monday gun legislation took center stage. Supporters on both sides of the issue came out in full force holding rallies throughout the day. Meanwhile, a Senate committee where Republicans hold the advantage voted against a bill proposing universal background checks, and a bill that would have allowed cities and counties to ban firearms at certain public events.
