"Bihar's traders will take to arms to defend themselves against criminals as the government had failed to protect them, a traders' organisation said Thursday."

"Traders have been target of criminals but the state government has failed to protect their lives and business, said the traders' organisation."

"Traders are regularly abducted for extortion and killed if they refused to pay, said [organization] president Tekriwal."

"Five traders were killed in the past fortnight alone, he claimed. 'Hardly a day passes without reports of crimes against traders,' he added." ...

"Asked if their decision did not violate the law, he said arms were permitted in self-defence."

"The Edmonton Institution was an 'armed camp' over-run by violent gangs when Jason Kerr fatally stabbed a fellow prisoner in self defence, says evidence being weighed by Canada's top court."

"The Supreme Court of Canada reserved judgment Friday on whether Kerr should be convicted of carrying a weapon 'for a purpose dangerous to the public peace.' "

"Seven high court judges heard from lawyers for Kerr and the Crown for two hours. They won't likely release a judgment for several weeks in a case that some fear could escalate what has been called a prison 'arms race.' "

Their government can't even control arms in their prisons, guarded by armed officers, but they expect to somehow control firearms outside?

"In an open letter to gun control advocate Sarah Brady, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is asking her to intervene in the case of a Wilmette, Ill., man who has been charged with violating local and state gun laws, simply because he defended his family with a handgun against a home invader."

"In his letter to Brady, CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb reminded the longtime gun rights opponent that she and her organization, the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, has long insisted that it does not oppose gun ownership, or self-defense." ...

Think the Brady Campaign to Eradicate Gun Ownership will do what's right?

"Writing a book, such as, 'Restoring the Constitution, 1787-1987: Essays in Celebration of the Bicentennial' will not solve the problem either, for that book has been on the shelves for 17 years and the federal courts have grown increasingly unconstitutional."

"Article 3, Section 1, and Section 2, Clause 2, along with the impeachment clauses are the viable solutions. In the 107th Congress Congress used the authority of Article III, Section 2, clause 2 on 12 occasions to limit the jurisdiction of the federal courts. As you can see, jurisdiction stripping is far more common and easier to accomplish than amendment or impeachment; and far more effective than hoping for a favorable decree." . . .

"You wake with a start, not immediately sure why." ...

"Is someone inside? And if they are — what, dear God, should we do?"

"First of all, if possible, call the police immediately. But in rural Finger Lakes areas, help can take a few minutes — potentially life-altering minutes — to arrive."

"That leaves residents wondering: What am I allowed to do to protect myself?"

"The answer is spelled out in Article 35 of the state Penal Code, 'Defense of Justification.' " ...

..."You can legally use deadly physical force in your home when you reasonably believe it is necessary to prevent or stop a burglary, arson or other violent crime."

"After the fact, law enforcement officials may be the ones to rule whether a belief was reasonable, but when a stranger is entering a home, or already inside, the law gives that resident the benefit of the doubt." ...

"Also, in New York state, only those who have applied for and received a handgun license are allowed to own or possess handguns."

-------
This means that you can only defend yourself after you have jumped through a myriad of bureaucratic hoops, paid extortion money to the government for the "privilege" of owning a tool of self defense, passed a background check and waited months for permission. Aren't you glad to know how "free" you are, New York?

A man has been arrested at Stansted Airport in Essex after security officials found him in possession of a handgun.

He was taken into custody on Friday morning, but Essex Police say he is not being questioned under the Terrorism Act.

The 44-year-old businessman from Norfolk was passing through a routine security check at 0500 GMT when he was found carrying the weapon, which fires ball bearings.

Essex Police say the firearm is similar to an airgun and is not able to discharge bullets.

It is believed the man is British and was preparing to travel to Spain alone.

"Capt. Charmaine McGuffey and Lt. Earl Price of the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office typically teach the two-hour classes twice a year at the downtown YWCA, 898 Walnut St., in the spring and the fall. An extra class was added last week to meet demand, McGuffey said. The next workshop is scheduled in April."

"The classes include assertiveness training, pointers on becoming more confident, and hands-on practice in self-defense techniques. Studies have shown that women who immediately fight back during an attack greatly increase their chances of escaping danger, McGuffey has said."

-------
And women who defend themselves with a gun have an even better chance of escaping unharmed from danger.

" 'In Lancaster County we have a lot of people who hunt and who are gun owners,' said police Chief Ken Work. 'Every year you see children get a hold of a gun and don't know if it's loaded or not and pull the trigger. Here is a free substantial gun lock that you can secure your guns to prevent that.' "

"The Fort Oglethorpe Police Department is continuing to investigate an incident that occurred Tuesday afternoon, spurred by complaints from a man alleging an officer pointed a gun at him and his daughter outside of the Animal Medical Center on Battlefield Parkway."

"Police Chief Steve Blevins said officers responded to a call from an employee of the animal hospital around stating that a woman had entered the business and said she had been kidnapped and her armed kidnappers were waiting for her in a car outside."

"FIVE TENNESSEE gun shops are among 120 that led the nation from 1996 to 2000 in the sale of guns linked to crimes that also showed evidence of being illegally obtained, according to a recent Americans for Gun Safety Foundation report. Most are still open for business."

"And while some of those dealers cite high sales volume as a logical explanation for large numbers of 'crime gun' sales, AGSF researchers point out that many of the high-volume national chains don't show up on the list. Individual gun dealers, the organization insists, have to accept some of the responsibility."

"Amendment 22, the law that closed the so-called gun-show loophole to require background checks on gun buyers, could be altered for the first time by the Colorado legislature."

"On Thursday, a House committee took the initial step toward changing the voter-passed law, approving a bill requiring gun sellers to run background checks only when there's a sale, not when there's an 'attempted' sale."

"The wording in the bill is subtle, but anti-gun advocates say it would make profound changes by allowing sales transactions started at a gun show to be completed off-premises later - without the background check."

This absurdity is enough to send one running for the vomitorium. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, less than 2 percent of guns used in crime are bought at gun shows.

" 'They punched me so hard that I was knocked to the floor,' the woman said in a scathing letter read to Supreme Court Justice Randall Eng yesterday before he sentenced Victor Cruz, one of her attackers, to 21 years in prison."

"They savagely dragged me like an animal, like a piece of furniture, and took me to a secluded area of the park, a hut, a foul place that smelled so bad that not even animals should be made to be there, where I was brutally and repeatedly raped by five or more men." ...

"All of the attackers, except Carmona, were in the United States illegally." ...

"The woman was sexually tortured for three hours before cops rescued her. The men were arrested and gave confessions."

-------
So while New York is busy prosecuting fathers, bodega owners and senior citizens for daring to defend themselves with a non-nanny-state-approved weapon, President Bush is busy giving amnesty to illegal aliens, Immigration is busy being incompetent, and mayor Bloomberg is busy confirming his hatred for guns and freedom by joining with other socialist hellholes to prevent the "Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act" from being enacted.

A teenage girl was shot in her home after a gun accidentally went off in the apartment below.

Few details are available, but WLWT Eyewitness News 5 reported that the shooting happened at 1654 Gellenbac Road in West Price Hill.

According to police, a man in a second-floor apartment was cleaning a gun when it discharged. The bullet went through the ceiling and hit the 13-year-old girl in her shoulder, WLWT reported.

Investigators said the man went upstairs to check on the girl, then fled the scene. The victim was taken to Children's Hospital with an injury that reportedly is not life-threatening.

No other information is available.

-------
Notice not once does this story mention that the reason the weapon fired was because this irresponsible moron was cleaning it with a round still chambered, or that his finger happened to pull the trigger and made the gun go, "BOOM!"

No, the gun "went off" apparently all by itself.

If someone pulled the trigger, the agenda would be compromised.

There is a huge rock near a gravel pit on Hwy. 25 in rural Iowa. For
generations, kids have painted slogans, names, and obscenities on this rock, changing its character many times.

A few months back, the rock received its latest paint job, and since then it has been left completely undisturbed. It's quite an impressive sight.

It’s time for a change for the better...

"What do the drug war, Child Protective Service, Gun Control and Anti-smoking laws have in common? EVERYTHING. Each are examples of well intentioned policies that either don’t work or won’t work in the long run. Each is based on political reaction instead of reasonable action. Each violates basic constitutional rights and all are based on the politics of personal preference instead of logic and reason. Moreover, each has
created huge bureaucracies that are now self feeding monsters."

The retrial of four Miami police officers accused of beating a suspect during a 1997 arrest is scheduled to begin today.

In the original trial last year. 11 officers were tried. Four were convicted of planting guns at questionable police shootings in the 1990s; three officers were acquitted; and the jury couldn't agree on the other four, forcing a retrial.

Singer Gloria Estefan was called as a potential juror for the trial, but she left the federal courthouse Thursday evening after being excused from jury duty.

During the questioning, Estefan said she thought her celebrity status might influence other jurors.

She also wrote on her questionnaire that she was recruited by the CIA during her college years.

"As many as 200 tables of guns, knives, antiques and collectibles will be on display and up for sale at the show. Even after 28 years, Pokorny has a single purpose in mind for the show."

" 'Gun shows have been controversial nationwide because there’s not necessarily any background checks or waiting period,' said Odessa Chief of Police Chris Pipes. 'Then there are those who feel that if two individuals want to trade guns, then they should be able to do so without government interference.' By law, individuals are allowed to trade or sell guns to each other freely without filing paperwork or performing background checks. Federally licensed vendors, however, must perform background checks."

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Besides the advantage of being armed, which the Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation, the existence of subordinate governments, to which the people are attached, and by which the militia officers are appointed, forms a barrier against the enterprises of ambition, more insurmountable than any which a simple government of any form can admit of. Notwithstanding the military establishments in the several kingdoms of Europe, which are carried as far as the public resources will bear, the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms. — James Madison, The Federalist Papers, No. 46
