"The City of Seattle plans to hire a 'Crime Gun Program Coordinator' who, from all indications, will be 'nothing more than a bureaucrat whose job will be to create and advocate gun control schemes under the guise of stopping criminal misuse of firearms,' the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) said today."

"The Crime Gun Program Coordinator will be hired -- at a cost to taxpayers of between $61,366 and $92,060 -- by the Seattle Police Department. ..." ...

"I have been asked if Christians should 'shoot to kill' in self-defense, No, they should shoot to stay alive! A truism very appropriate today in America is, a gun in the hand is better than a cop on the phone. Courts have ruled that the police have no legal obligation to protect you."

"In real, everyday life, you and your family are on your own! As Dad you are to be the provider, priest, and protector of the family. You are the paladin 'Have Gun, Will Travel' and that means you may have to shoot another person to keep the family safe."

"Most Americans admit that self-defense is American but is it Christian? I think so, although many will disagree." ...

"Last week, we were discussing the December sentencing of Geoffrey Wells of Las Vegas, on charges of child abuse and endangerment, after his 12-year-old son Syber -- possibly distraught over his parents' divorce -- committed suicide with his father's shotgun."

"But laws are supposed to be uniform, and written down. How can these prosecutors and judges define 'child abuse and endangerment' to mean anything they want it to, after the fact, without reference to NRS 202.300 (the only Nevada law dealing with kids and guns) and when b

"For Wilmington lawyer John J. Thompson, the question of whether Delaware should make it easier for law-abiding residents to get a permit to carry a concealed handgun is a simple one."

"'You ought to be able to defend your life and the life of your loved ones. I think that’s a basic human right,' said Thompson, who holds a concealed-carry permit and is president of the Delaware State Sportsmen’s Association."

"For the Rev. Derrick Johnson, who works to bring peace to some of Wilmington’s meanest streets, the issue is equally basic."

"'I know too well, being from the ghetto, being a person who was dumb enough to steal and carry a gun and foolish enough to use it, I know full well that good citizens in the heat of passion can use a gun,' Johnson said." ...

"Americans cherish their Second Amendment rights, so not many eyebrows may be lifted by a bill in the Oklahoma Legislature that would allow superintendents and principals to carry guns on school property. But ... lift them we should."

"According to Rep. Bud Smithson, D-Sallisaw ... administrators need to be able to protect themselves 'when violence erupts in the schools.' Since Smithson took the trouble to introduce legislation, one might logically assume several school officials who felt threatened had asked him to intervene on their behalf. In fact, Smithson mentions only one advocate: the Belfonte superintendent, whose name – 'Lucky' McCrary – is befitting of the rootin’, tootin’ cowboy he apparently sees in the mirror when he shaves." ...

"The first 21 months of concealed carry in Ohio have provided pro-gun rights advocates a plethora of opportunities to disprove the rhetoric their opponents in the gun ban movements have thrown around during the near decade-long debate on concealed carry in the Buckeye State. There has been no soccer mom shootout, fender-bender murder, or Wild West-style vigilantism. ..."

"Since passing its 'shoot first, ask questions later' law last year, the state of Florida has been derided by the international press, become the subject of an ad campaign that warns visitors not to 'shout or make threatening gestures' at the natives, and provided fodder for amused bloggers, pundits and late-night comics. (What's the Sunshine State's new motto? 'Florida: Don't make us come up there.')"

"So guess what state — also led by cowering politicians desperate to curry the gun lobby's endorsement — is considering the same law?"

"The Senate Courts of Justice Committee voted 9-4 to kill the bill after hearing from several gun-rights supporters who said it would be unduly burdensome and would do little to stop crime."

"Although homicides reported in New York City last year reached their lowest level since 1963, two killings of police officers late in the year raised public awareness of the problem of illegal guns on the city’s streets. In his inaugural address on Jan. 1, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg declared that a major goal of his second term would be to 'rid our streets of guns, and punish all those who possess and traffic in these instruments of death.'"

"LETTER-WRITER Kevin Allen asks if he, as a 'white guy with a clean record and a permit to carry,' should care about the gun violence that affects African-Americans."

"Aside from the obvious response that he should care if he retains an ounce of human decency in his soul, Mr. Allen should care because the increase in murders stains a city that drives the economic engine for this entire region. If Philadelphia descends into lawlessness, the repercussions will be felt far beyond the neighborhoods where violence is greatest and the city renaissance will be short-lived, indeed." ...
