"A 'sideshow issue'?

"I suppose the Mr. Cohens of the world can believe that if they like.

"Others of us have observed the lessons of history. We have done what we can to educate others not only about the evil that is citizen disarmament, but also of our resolve to not be disarmed.

"My prayer is this never becomes what Mr. Cohen would consider an 'A-list topic,' that it never takes over the center ring. My fear is that it will, due to the arrogance of those who think they can forever push, and that those they push will forever yield."

"There is a very good reason more and more Americans are buying more and more guns in 2008 and 2009. With the way crime is handled by our servants, it’s no surprise they bungled the financial crisis. 80 Million gun owners know that crime is not fought by bureaucracy after the fact, it is caught after the fact (sometimes), long after the theft, the rape or the abduction is a completed act, and that crime is either fought on scene during the fact, or it wins every time. Crime wins millions of times every year." ...

"The powerful gun-ban lobby has developed its own language to color and disguise its true agenda -- the disarming of law-abiding Americans in every way possible, and the end of effective self defense."

"Their latest set of plans -- used as a fund raiser (outlined below) -- is filled with nice sounding terms that put a deceptive spin on their goals. Respect for the Bill of Rights is nowhere to be found, only clever end runs and literal destruction of rights Americans have always had."

"Starkly missing from these plans is any direct attack on criminals -- the whole game plan is aimed at firearms the public holds. It is a product of abject gun fear -- hoplophobia -- that afflicts the people behind the plan. ..." ...

"I've condemned the citizen disarmament movement's 'blood dancing' in response to atrocities committed by sick, evil punks before, but am rarely given such a glaring example of it as this."
"Twenty Years Since A Nightmare:
Stockton, CA School Shooting Of 35
Led To Strengthening Of Gun Laws"
"That's how a citizen disarmament advocate looks on the 'bright side'--if the slaughter of innocent children leads to more restrictive gun laws, that's the price of 'progress.'"
"'Stockton was a critical moment in the history of the fight for sensible gun laws in America,' Helmke said."
"The Stockton massacre was an unmitigated atrocity, and to portray it as anything else is reprehensible." ...

"I’m betting that we will all look back at the confirmation hearings, the controversy over Barack Obama’s birthplace, and the 'Blago' scandal, and say 'Why weren’t we paying more attention?'"

"The Obama administration, before it even takes office, is giving off a stench of sleaze that some in the media might want to ignore, but should be cause for genuine concern." ...

"The controversies circling Erik Holder, the man chosen to be the next Attorney General, deliberately ignored the facts regarding the granting of a Clinton presidential pardon ... he has a long record of opposition to the Second Amendment, i.e., gun ownership. No Attorney General can pick and choose which elements of the Constitution he intends to enforce." ...

"This is emerging as a standard narrative among federal law enforcement agencies: A plummeting economy + the election of a black president = a racist renaissance ... The Regime's publicity arm has already treated the public to several variations on that theme, even though the evidence to support it is thin to the point of translucency."

"The point of all this is not to address a plausible threat, of course, but rather to provide a the proper reductionist framing device so that any tremor of organized resistance to Obama's Neo-New Deal can be interpreted in terms of racial resentments." ...

"Members of the Virginia Citizens Defense League (VCDL) will be meeting at the State Capitol in Richmond on Martin Luther King Jr. Day to rally for the elimination of existing gun regulations and the repeal of laws that have prohibited concealed carry permit holders from bringing handguns into schools, churches, government buildings, restaurants and other places of public gathering in the Commonwealth. The holiday commemorates the birthdate of the great civil rights leader and proponent of nonviolence."

"Goodness; where to begin?"

"Surely the top priority of the federal government (the reason 'governments are instituted among men') is to protect and defend our liberties, among which one of the foremost is our right to keep and bear arms. Since most national park visitors come from far away, what are the chances most will have the slightest idea how to obtain the required 'state permit?')" ...

"Looking ahead to today’s Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing for Attorney General nominee Eric Holder, ranking member Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA) says he is worried about Holder's 'ability to maintain his independence from the president.' This is the wrong question. The proper question is one of judgment: Does the nominee demonstrate the kind of judgment necessary to advise the President in a responsible and constitutionally appropriate way? There are at least five issues which raise serious questions about Holder’s judgment:"

... "Torture wasn't the only matter addressed by Holder. A long-time supporter of government restrictions on Americans' right to own firearms, Holder conceded during the hearing that last summer's Supreme Court decision in Heller was a 'very significant opinion' that recognized the Second Amendment as protecting individual rights and limited the government's ability to impose gun control laws. Holder says that, should he be confirmed, his actions 'will be guided by that Supreme Court decision.'" ...

"That's the question before the York City Council next week. Members are scheduled to vote on an ordinance requiring people to report lost or stolen guns within 72 hours after they discover them missing."

"Maybe that seems like common sense ... Good citizens who have legally purchased firearms would be foolish not to call police if their guns are stolen. That's just what you do when something gets stolen."

"But should it be illegal to fail to do so? Should we run the risk of criminalizing people who, say, have a gun stolen, perhaps by 'friends' or family members, who don't even know their weapons are missing, if they fail to report the loss or theft?"

"Isn't that a little like victimizing the victim?" ...

"Hub Territory cities can continue to ban the carrying of concealed weapons despite the Nebraska attorney general’s opinion."

"Attorney General Jon Bruning announced an opinion Wednesday that a conceal-carry law passed in 2006 applies to all communities, despite clauses that allowed cities local control."

"Lexington City Manager Joe Pepplitsch said until he hears differently, he will assume that Lexington’s ban remains in effect."

"'An attorney general's opinion has no legal effect. There's a lot of questions about it, but we'll probably take no action,' Pepplitsch said. 'We have an ordinance prohibiting concealed weapons, and it doesn't pre-empt any other laws, so for us it's a nonissue. We're not taking any action on it.'" ...

"A long-running challenge to Alameda County's ban on gun shows at the annual county fair1 in Pleasanton was back before a federal appeals court in San Francisco today."

"Gun show promoters Russell and Sallie Nordyke, of Willows in Glenn County, claim the ban violates their constitutional First Amendment right of free speech and their Second Amendment right to bear arms."

"Their lawyer, Donald Kilmer, told the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, 'We are asking to be allowed to hold the traditionally law-abiding gun shows held in the country fair for 10 years.'" ...

"In recognition of the unprecedented demand for firearms by nervous consumers, The Outdoor Wire has named President-elect Barack Obama its 'Gun Salesman of the Year'. For me, it was a simple fact of recognizing that without President-elect Obama's frightening consumers into action, the firearms industry might be suffering the same sort of business slumps that have befallen the automotive and housing industries."

"It's credit where credit is due. Mr. Obama has consistently voted against individual rights to firearms ... "Plaxico Burress' Florida license that covered a rifle and an old, inoperable handgun was seized last month from his Totowa, NJ, home - but he's hoping the permit will stave off new gun charges even though it has expired, a source involved with the case said yesterday."

The license expired because Burress had failed to inform Florida authorities he was moving and the state sent the renewal forms to his old address, the source said.

"'If you have a license and it's expired and not because of any misconduct on the part of the licensee, they typically don't charge you' with weapon possession, the source said." ...

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Today the taxing power, rather than chattel slavery, is the instrument by which the parasitical element of the population subsists. And that element, which includes politicians, panics at the slightest reduction in the state's power to plunder. Once you start liberating taxpayers, even a little tiny bit, nobody knows where it may end. —Joseph Sobran
