"Steve Sanetti, president of the National Shooting Sports Foundation, gave the State of the Industry speech yesterday in Las Vegas at the SHOT Show. His speech which lasts about 17 minutes is well worth a listen. He doesn't shy away from talking about the Newtown shooting which occurred in the NSSF's hometown. I like his ending where he is repeating what an elderly man said to him about punishing the good people." ... |

"When the anti-gun New York Times acknowledges that a restrictive new gun law proposed by President Barack Obama — like the one signed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo Tuesday — probably could not have prevented December’s Sandy Hook school shooting, it is clear there is a problem with the gun prohibition agenda." ... |

"For years, the forcible citizen disarmament lobby has heaped scorn on the notion that restrictive gun laws lead to still more restrictive gun laws, on a 'slippery slope' that can lead only to the forcible utter disarmament of the citizenry--global history repeatedly showing precisely that notwithstanding. Now, in the gun banners' gleeful haste to exploit the murdered children of Sandy Hook Elementary, many of them are so emboldened as to barely bother trying to conceal their goal of complete citizen disarmament." ... |

"Cannily, the President surrounded himself with kids from early elementary school when he gave his 'gun control' speech today. Since he speaks for the symbolism-side of this polarized debate, that was hardly unexpected."
"It was a shame the young ones didn’t get the chance to discuss it themselves. Suppose you asked a second-grader, 'Kids, if a bad boy in your class took crayons and wrote all over the walls of your classroom, would it be right to take the crayons away from the boys and girls who behaved?'"
"I suspect the children would unanimously answer, 'No! That’s not fair! Take them away from the boy who did the bad thing, not the rest of us!'"
"And of course, they might also ask, 'Where was the teacher? ...'" ... |

"Dear City Council,"
"My name is Michael Sullivan, and I own a beautiful 1943 M4 Sherman tank."
"My neighbors are complaining that it’s 'dangerous' or 'it knocked a large tree into my living room,' but it’s basically just a large SUV … albeit with a slingshot. You’ve heard their side of the argument, so let me explain the benefits of owning such a grand machine. One night at 3 a.m. a robber approached my house. I climbed into the tank, which I use to protect my family, and I fired a shell at him." ... |

"Has the NRA finally gone too far?"
"The National Rifle Association has been skirting the lines of decency for years, but the gun-rights group stoops to a new low with a Web ad calling President Obama an 'elitist hypocrite.' The ad criticizes Obama for giving his daughters Secret Service protection while expressing skepticism about installing armed guards in schools." ... -------

"The fight to preserve our gun rights in the face of the attacks that have been launched by the Obama Administration will come down to who has the better ground war - us or them."

"The much-anticipated Obama/Biden presser this morning—which delivered a suppressor-like effect on the floor of the SHOT show—was more of a squib than the full-frontal assault on our Second Amendment rights that many had feared. It was classic Obama, slathering on the ideological lard aided by some stupid props. This time, a bunch of kids. But ultimately it was another lead-from-behind effort from the president that, when all is said and done, dropped an enormous turd onto Democrats and RINOs in the House and Senate. That’s where all of you good folks come into the picture . . ." ... |

"The Obama Adminstration's blueprint for gun control, Now Is The Time, directly targets those of us affectionately known as Crufflers. Crufflers are those of use who hold Curios and Relics Federal Firearms Licenses for the purpose of collecting older firearms. Many who collect these firearms do so out of an interest in military history."
"Our ability to collect weapons from overseas that have a military connection such as the M-1 Garands and M-1 carbines in South Korea are directly impacted by Obama's proposals." ... |

"With the announcement of the president’s gun control plan, and the seemingly requisite public relations positioning of children at his side, we are witnessing the culmination of what I call a 'change failure chain.' Undoubtedly, by the time you read this article, court action will have commenced and battle lines will be reinforced. Let the circus begin! While circuses can be entertaining, is this really the realm for effective change? Sadly, this appears to be a public relations attempt and not the way to effectuate a real and lasting difference." ... |

... "None of these totalitarian-state compliant rifles (to my knowledge) have ever been used in the commission of a crime."
"But all of them are still semi-automatic rifles, and they all cost real money for their manufacturers to develop and for their owners to purchase. Manufacturers and shooters spent extra money to develop and purchase these limited-run rifles, and justifiably relied on existing laws in the reasonable belief that they would be allowed to keep and use them. Now in NY they’re all contraband, thanks to a bill that most of the legislature didn’t even read."
"But Andrew Cuomo doesn’t give a damn about that; he had to ‘do something’ and by God he was going to. And damn the cost. Or the Constitution." ... |

... "After casting his vote in favor of the stricter gun measures, Assemblyman Brian Curran (Lynbrook, 21st AD) released the following statement:"
"'Over the past 30 days, I have been speaking with many constituents, parents and grandparents about their demand for legislation which keeps guns out of the hands of mentally-ill individuals, reduces the number of violent crimes with illegal hand guns and provides a safer environment for our children. This legislation accomplishes those three goals.'" ... |

"History was made today as the Governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, signed a bill into law that contains the toughest gun control statutes in the country. Signed just after 5 pm EST, a little over one month since the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre shooting, the law, called the New York Safe Act, is not only 'the first bill,' says Cuomo, but the 'best bill.'" ... |

"As New York state's new gun control law took shape this month, the Oneida County Office of Pistol Licensing was bombarded with requests."
"'We were hit with a barrage of applications and of people calling to ask what this bill will mean to them,' Assistant Pistol Licensing Officer Dan Sullivan said. 'People wanted to get ahead of things.'"
"Sullivan said the number of transactions his office normally sees in a 10-day period at this time of year jumped from 140 to 318." ... |
