"What Penn is even doing with guns in the first place is a mystery, if the reports are true that when partnered with Madonna, he tied her to a chair and beat her up with a baseball bat. The Lautenberg amendment prohibition on gun ownership applies to those convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence, and according to the New York Daily News, 'Penn was also charged with felony domestic assault during his marriage to Madonna. He pleaded to a misdemeanor.'” |

On Monday, Sen. John Cornyn introduced the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, which is the first pro-gun legislation leveled since the showdown over Mr. Obama's gun control votes last April.
"It strikes me that, at a time we're talking about the role of guns in society, we should acknowledge that it is a constitutional right," the Texas Republican told me in an interview Wednesday. "Law- abiding people buy and use guns for legitimate purposes, protecting themselves and their families." |

Many of the participants in the ill-named “gun-control” debate are urban, cosmopolitan individuals with little exposure to an environment of broad civilian gun ownership or an environment that precludes useful access to police.
Americans who live in rural areas must take on many functions individually – or at most as a village – such as with firefighting – as opposed to city dwellers who (perhaps unwillingly) count on official agencies to provide for virtually all their needs, security and otherwise. |

The east Allentown man who shot a robber to death Wednesday night was first pistol-whipped by three robbers acting together, a neighbor said Thursday.
And when the resident of 655 Westminster St. pulled a gun in self-defense, one of the robbers fired at the resident, a man in his 50s, said the neighbor, recounting what the resident told him.
"I heard the pop, pop, pop, pop, pop," neighbor Thomas Hoffman said. "They were shooting at each other.
"I went outside and I didn't see anyone else but my neighbor. His left eye was all puffed up. He said, 'Call the cops. I just shot somebody.' "
It was 10:40 p.m. Wednesday. In the driveway next door, a man's body lay in a pool of blood. |

Police treated the semi-automatic AR-15, a legally owned weapon, as found property. They contacted the Tannehills, but by Thursday the couple had yet to reclaim it. It remains under lock and key at the station house, Police Chief Thomas Nagy said.
While an official report listed the weapon's value at $2,000, experts said enhancements have elevated its worth.
The popularity of the AR-15, a familiar feature in movies and TV, has been attributed to its commando-like appearance. "It's a nice looking gun," said Louis Tuero, manager at Charlie's Armory Guns and Ammo in Miami. |

Dallas County Sheriff Harris Huffman said the incident appeared to be a case of self-defense and no one has been arrested in connection with the shooting Thursday afternoon.
The incident occurred when Dallas County resident Kevin Mclaughlin entered Dollar General reportedly waving a pistol in the air, Huffman said. Mclaughlin then ushered a group of people inside the store into a break room.
“It appears that once the cashier got inside the break room, a customer that was walking into the break room shot the individual, the white male, with the pistol,” Huffman said. “There was only one shot fired and that shot struck the individual with the pistol causing the disturbance.” |

It’s OK to bring a weapon on the campus of Florida’s public universities and community colleges. Just leave them in your car.
One gun-rights group, Florida Carry, says it’s not up to the schools to decide where weapons are allowed and has filed a lawsuit to stop the institutions from writing regulations.
The group, a nonprofit that works to strike down restrictive gun laws, is suing the University of Florida in Gainesville, which bans firearms anywhere on campus. |

In a 2014 legislative session with an abbreviated schedule and agenda, setting priorities is critical. And for some state leaders, one priority is pretty clear: By the time the General Assembly goes home, they want it to be legal for students to carry and possess firearms on college campuses.
It’s a flatout terrible idea — young kids under stress and away from home, hormones, alcohol, drugs and oh yeah, let’s throw firearms into that witches’ brew. Most of Georgia agrees that it’s a terrible idea. In a statewide AJC poll taken earlier this month, 78 percent of Georgia voters said they oppose legalizing weapon possession on college campuses. Just 20 percent say they support it. |

Two weeks later, I asked if he had finished the book. He said that I could pick it up. I did so, and when I was at his office, I asked him if he had read it. He said that he had skimmed through it. I asked him if he had learned anything.
He said “I learned not to write about things that I do not know anything about.” I never saw another letter to the editor from him. |
