Arcane in this world of semiautos, the DA revolver is still fun and accurate — especially if you know how to shoot it. My Top Ten Tips for doubleaction sixguns is not necessarily in order of importance, but let us lay down some ground rules first. There are at least six ways to shoot a double-action revolver. We can use a one-handed or two-handed hold, cocking the hammer for a deliberate and carefully aimed shot at paper or game. One-handed or two-handed shooting by pulling the trigger smoothly until the gun fires or, as some have mastered, using a one handed or two-handed method of pulling the trigger until the hammer is cocked and the sixgun is almost ready to fire, pausing then shooting single action. |

I admire the Brits. Once they get their hands on a rugged, battle-proven firearm design, they just hang onto it. Witness the basic Lee-Enfield rifle. Adopted in 1888, it soldiered on, in one form or another, right into the 1970s.

One of the many new-for-SHOT guns that Beretta announced at their pre-SHOT Show range day is the reincarnation of the much-loved and dearly departed Beretta Cheetah of years past. The old Cheetah was available in a few lighter calibers like .22LR, .32 and .380 and went out of production about five years ago. |

Last June in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen, the Supreme Court held that states may not require gun owners to "demonstrate a special need for self-protection distinguishable from that of the general community" before they can exercise the constitutional right to bear arms. New York legislators responded by eliminating the state's "proper cause" requirement for carry permits but simultaneously making those permits much less useful by declaring them inoperative in a long list of "sensitive locations." |

Among the proposals, one bill will prevent the future sale of assault weapons after July 1 as well as ban high-capacity magazines. A similar, broader bill in 2020 led to controversy and the bill's eventual defeat. |

A gun that’s easier to carry concealed usually comes with trade-offs like reduced capacity, less grip real estate, and more muzzle rise. But then came guns like the Sig Sauer P365, which significantly increased the capacity of sub-compact pistols. Then Sig once again pushed the capacity of a compact handgun when they introduced the P365 XMacro, which added seven rounds to the P365 for a total of 17+1 capacity. The XMacro also increased the grip real estate and cut down on muzzle flip.
