A gun-control exchange from Tuesday night's Democratic presidential debate was printed in the Wall Street Journal Thursday. Some of the quotes from Hillary Clinton are noteworthy. Among them:
"I don't want the federal government pre-empting states and cities like New York that have very specific problems."
TRANSLATION: I don't want the Supreme Court to overrule any gun bans. We need more gun bans, not less.
"We do need to crack down on illegal gun dealers."
TRANSLATION: Anyone who sells a gun to a friend or family member without registering the transaction should go to jail.
"And we need to enforce the laws that we have on the books."
TRANSLATION: Enforce gun bans like the ones in DC & NYC, with vigorous prosecutions. And give the BATFE more money to help them convict more people on technical paperwork violations.
"I would also work to reinstate the assault-weapons ban."
TRANSLATION: Let's ban more guns and vigorously enforce the bans even though they didn't reduce crime when my perjuring adulterer husband tried it. |

"The nation's top spy, Michael McConnell, thinks the threat of cyberarmageddon is so great that the U.S. government should have unfettered and warrantless access to U.S. citizens' Google search histories, private e-mails and file transfers, in order to spot the cyberterrorists in our midst."
"That's according to a sprawling 18-page story on the Director of National Intelligence by Lawrence Wright in the January 21 edition of the New Yorker." ...
"McConnell regurgitates the hoary myth that computer crime costs America $100 billion a year."
"McConnell convinced President Bush that a massive cyber-attack on a single U.S. bank would be worse for the economy than than the deadly terrorist attacks of September 11..." ------- Another neocon subsidy to the banking industry. Who pays? You. And not just with your taxes this time. |

... "On the issue of whether business owners should be forced to permit guns on their parking lots, the high ground belongs to some leftists and the American Bar Association, which has 'condemned the parking lot law as a violation of property rights at its annual meeting in 2007.' "
"...the question of whether guns should or should not be permitted somewhere would, in a free society, be a property-rights question. It would not be guns everywhere, imposed on people who oppose them on their own property, nor guns nowhere, as the totalitarian gun controllers imagine. The conservatives, while (in general) far better on gun rights than the mainstream left, has never fully understood this entire issue." ... |

"I would have less of a problem with this if it wasn’t for the fact that I know from personal experience how hopelessly corrupt the Mexican justice system is. To use a colorful turn of phrase, I’d call it rotten to the core."
"I’m also opposed to it because I don’t like that we’re essentially kowtowing to the demands of a foreign government to surrender information on our citizens to said foreign government. It only reinforces that we’re completely willing to compromise our sovereignty on an issue that appears to an internal problem with Mexico." ... |

The Georgia Senate passed House Bill 89 today, January 17 by a vote of 41-15. This critical NRA-supported legislation to protect our firearm rights now heads to the House for a vote as early as tomorrow, January 18. HB89 has been amended to include the following pro-Second Amendment language:
- allows licensed carry permit holders to possess a firearm in any private motor vehicle, while on any publicly accessible parking lot; - prohibits gun dealer entrapment schemes, such as those orchestrated by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg; - allows concealed carry permit holders to carry in State Parks; and - creates a strict time limit for various stages of the pistol license application process. |
