"There was a brief chance to really look at gun possession -- at its perils and its positive possibilities. There was a chance for people to use the issue of guns at the Rhode Island State House to take an honest look at the right to bear arms. But the chance appears lost. Governor Almond and his administration have quietly folded on their proposal to restrict the carrying of guns at the State House to uniformed on-duty police officers." --Bob Kerr

"I won't argue about the right to bear arms. The Second Amendment, loosely defined, says you can have a gun if you want one. My question is why do you want one? Personal security? That's what people usually say when asked why they kept the gun around that their kid found or that their spouse used to settle a family argument..." --David Wells, The Cincinnati Enquirer

"The words of the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution have been debated more than any law in American history. What will 2002 hold for liberals determined to restrict the rights of law-abiding gun owners, and for conservatives intent on protecting those rights?" --Jeff Johnson, CNSNews.com

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
The supposed quietude of a good mans allures the ruffian; while on the other hand, arms like laws discourage and keep the invader and the plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property. The same balance would be preserved were all the world destitute of arms, for all would be alike; but since some will not, others dare not lay them aside...Horrid mischief would ensue were one half the world deprived of the use of them... — Thomas Paine, I Writings of Thomas Paine at 56 (1894).
