... "Me and the boys of the Black Legion would like to thank you for your op-ed piece entitled 'Ban All Guns.' ..." ...
"... Disarmament's for people who want to be lynched."
"Which is why I want to thank you for your editorial. You just keep talking black folks into disarming. You ban all the guns you want. ... You get them all nice and pacified. When you do, then the Klan can ride again. Because I'll tell you one thing Reverend, the Klan ain't never gonna disarm no matter how many laws you pass. ... So keep it up, Reverend. You have the best wishes and unqualified support of every member of the Ku Klux Klan and the Black Legion currently burning in Hell."
"Colonel Harvey Davis"
"Formerly of the Black Legion, Detroit Chapter and King Kleagle of the Indiana-Ohio Knights of the Ku Klux Klan. Current address, Lake of Fire Retirement Home, Fifth Level of Hell, Zip Code 666" |

"A couple days ago, I wrote about Robert Smith, Jr, who, in a blog he writes for The Detroit News, contends that the Founding Fathers were wrong to extend Constitutional protection to the fundamental, absolute human right of the individual to keep and bear arms, and who indeed argues that we should "Ban All Guns." I wasn't the only gun rights advocate to take exception to this advocacy of such an attack on liberty--Pistolero, David Codrea, and Mike Vanderboegh (must read) have all weighed in on the subject."
"Some of the criticism came not in blogs, but in comments left at the site of Mr. Smith's opinion piece. Now, it seems that another Detroit News blogger, Libby Spencer, thinks the criticism is out of line ..." ... |

"But you know who else will do well? The [NRA]. Too bad the gun-rights lobby doesn't issue stock." ...
"In fundraising letters, the NRA is already raising the specter of 'an outright ban on your guns.' And brisk sales at gun stores show Second Amendment-loving citizens are worried." ...

"Seven years ago, New York started a database of 'ballistic fingerprints' for all new handguns sold in the state. The bill's backers sold it as a crime-solving device, arguing that the state would now have a sample of a spent shell and bullet for every new gun sold. This, they said, would help police connect future evidence from crime scenes to specific guns."
"Since then, the authorities have entered 200,000 newly purchased guns into the database and spent $1 million dollars a year on the system. Yet it hasn't led to a single solved crime. ..." ... |

"A federal appeals court panel has ruled that a defamation case brought by gun store owners against New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg should proceed in Georgia's Cobb County Superior Court, not federal court."
"Finding that the federal courts don't have jurisdiction over the matter, the Dec. 19 ruling by the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ordered the lawsuit be sent back to Marietta, where it was filed originally."
"Jasper lawyer Edwin D. Marger, who represents the gun store and its owners, said his clients 'absolutely' have a better chance of prevailing on their defamation suit in Cobb County than they would have had in federal court. Marger said his client Jay Wallace is a well-liked fixture in Cobb County." ... |

"Beginning Jan. 9, visitors to Everglades National Park and most other U.S. wildlife refuges will be permitted to pack a concealed weapon along with their mosquito repellent and sunscreen as they head into the great outdoors. The Bush administration's last-minute1 reversal of a decades-old ban on loaded handguns in parks has alarmed National Park Service officials, who fear that areas now among the safest in the nation will become more perilous for park rangers, visitors and endangered animals."
"'More guns always increase potential for incidents, and that's something law enforcement never likes to see,' said Linda Friar, an Everglades National Park spokeswoman. ..." ... -------

"This unpleasant, strong emotion often causes terror immobilisation, or the freeze syndrome, in the recipient. The key with adrenalin is don't panic. Easy to say, I hear you cry, and you are right; it's not easy, it's very hard. That's why so many people, trained and untrained, baulk at the obstacle of a real fight. The adrenal syndrome needs to be understood and addressed so that it can be harnessed." ... -------

"As the new year dawns, America's sportsmen and the wildlife resources we treasure face an uncertain future." ...
"Sportsmen face two primary issues. On one hand is our collective concern for the future of the constitutional right to own the firearms we use for hunting and personal protection. On the other is concern for the future of wildlife and wild places. Public access to those wild places is as much of an issue as protecting them. What most people don't understand is the vast majority of funding for wildlife and wild places is tied to personal firearms ownership."
