... "Don't call the Live Free or Die state a copycat, though--the New Hampshire bill contains a very interesting provision not (to my knowledge) seen in any of the other states' legislation.""Any official, agent, or employee of the government of the United States, ... that enforces or attempts to enforce a act, order, law, statute, rule or regulation of the government of the United States upon a personal firearm, a firearm accessory, or ammunition that is manufactured commercially or privately in New Hampshire and that remains within the State of New Hampshire shall be guilty of a class B felony. (emphasis added)" "Hmm--I'm guessing that's not going to sit well with the BATFE, or the entire federal government, for that matter." ... |

"With today being New Year's Day, it will be the last installment in the Examiner Special Project regarding New Years resolutions pertaining to gun rights. As a result, I could not resist suggesting more than one! First, try out a rifle at long range! Most people never stretch their rifle's legs beyond 100 or 200 yards. If you have never tried it, you will soon discover that 300 to 500 yards is a lot farther in real life than it is on the internet. The original idea behind the NRA was to develop a nation of marksmen, but today the art of long range marksmanship is sadly neglected. Resolve for 2010 to find a shooting range with several hundred yards available ... pack up the rifle and ammunition, and go shoot! ..." ... |

"Let's start with those of you are just thinkin' about it. Here are a few suggested resolutions for you:"
"1. Resolve to decide early in 2010 whether or not you are going to take personal responsibility for yourself and your family, whether at home or away. When the barbarians are at the gate, will you be prepared to defend the castle until the cavalry arrive (in nine or ten minutes)?"
"2. If you resolve to defend the castle, then the next thing is to determine what measures to take, between minimal and extreme. Do you have good locks on the doors? What about an alarm? Is it monitored? Do you and your neighbors watch out for each other? Are you prepared for a home invasion, of which we have seen too many of lately? ..." ... |

... "The Second Amendment ... does not exist to stop what the writer calls 'current tyranny.' The idea that 'Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun' was uttered by Mao, not the Founding Fathers."
"The mechanism to redress the citizenry's disagreements with their government lies in the system of elections prescribed in the Constitution itself and in the First Amendment ... not in the whim of armed militants and fanatics." ... -------
Submitter's Note: So what do you do when the Federal gov't ignores both elections and the Constitution? Just as an example, Californians duly elected representatives passed medicinal marijuana laws, only to have the Feds enforce their drug laws. As for the First Amendment, does the phrase "free speech zones" ring any bells? |

"Extremist 'patriot' groups and other armed militias have undergone a dramatic resurgence in America, their numbers more than doubling in the past year amid growing Right-wing fears over expanding federal power and gun control."
"Such groups – a mix of libertarians, gun rights advocates and survivalists – appeared to be in terminal decline before the election of Barack Obama, according to monitoring bodies."
"The Southern Poverty Law Centre, which tracks extremist organisations, says it has so far counted more than 300 patriot groups this year ..." ... -------

"As a citizen and voter, I expect a minimum level of common sense and pragmatism from the people elected to represent me. After so many years of bitter disappointment, I have no idea why."
"For example, my home state of Oklahoma has the dubious honor of having the largest state budget deficit in the nation[sic]. A reasonable person might assume our elected representatives are at this very minute hard at work trying to solve this urgent problem. A reasonable person would be wrong."
"Two Democratic state lawmakers want a sales tax holiday on the purchase of guns. ..." ... -------
Submitter's Note: As a reader of 'news' stories, I expect a minimum level of sense and truthfulness from journalists. After so many years of bitter disappointment, I have no idea why. The CA budget deficit is more than five and a half times OK's entire budget, so OK's deficit can hardly be largest in the nation. |

"In the last three installments of the Chicago Gun Rights Examiner, we've examined new, more onerous restrictions on military personnel who own 'privately-owned firearms' while serving at Fort Hood in Texas. Today, in the final installment of the series, it's time to answer the most relevant question that the criticisms of Fort Hood's restrictive new firearm policies leave unanswered:"So registration and regulations won't work? Fine--what measures would stop 'the next Hassan'?" As many reader comments seem to suggest, targeting specific weapons a terrorist might use is guaranteed to fail over time. ..." ... |

"Our media and the cinema continue to portray FBI agents and most federal investigators as being brilliant crime solvers when, in reality, decades of bullying and immunity have turned these agents into bullying, incompetent jerks. We should not be surprised at all at what Kurt Haskell has written about the FBI 'investigation' of the underwear bomber. Likewise, we see the incompetence demonstrated by TSA 'investigators' when they went after a blogger who posted some new TSA screening directives."

"... Bailey misled officials about how his gun was stored."
