"The trouble with gun bans is the same as it is with liberals: neither deal with the realities of the world and both are fraught with danger. In cities where such foolishness has already been tried – New York City and Washington, D.C., for instance – murder rates are among the highest in the country."

"Nevertheless, liberals continue to believe the end of crime is just one gun ban away until, that is, the gun ban begins to inflict hardship upon a class of citizens favored by liberals. Then, suddenly, they are only a good idea for the rest of us."

"The UN Gun Ban Treaty, according to the National Rifle Association, asks us as free law abiding citizens to sacrifice our own constitutional right to bear arms in order for us to bow down and worship the great and mighty United Nations. Since when has the UN had the authority or the right to make laws that would affect my freedom in my own country. The UN and EU should get their noses out of people's personal business and tend to what they were created to do. Here we are looking for Iran to build nuclear weapons but instead of the UN worrying about a nuclear bomb they are worried about a few middle-aged hunters legally carrying 30-06 rifles and a shotgun. Which is more of a threat?"

"My question is this: Why is gun control a liberal issue? This is an inconsistency. ..."

"Each side cherishes the gravest suspicions of the other side - and each side's behavior does much to confirm those suspicions. The pro-regulation side suspects that the real agenda of the anti-regulation side is driven by insecure, knuckle-dragging Neanderthals who need the comfort of a big, bad, 'piece' close at hand to prove their machismo. The anti-regulation side suspects that the real, agenda of the pro-regulation side is to eliminate private ownership of firearms altogether, never allow the slaughter of another deer or duck, and probably forcibly convert everyone to vegetarianism in its most hideous macrobiotic form. ..."

"I can't be the only one sickened by Sen. Charles Schumer waving a copy of the Constitution during the hearing for Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito. It was not that long ago that Sens. Ted Kennedy, Dianne Feinstein, Joe Biden and our own Sen. Schumer did everything they could to take away our Second Amendment rights."

"I find it absolutely absurd that these individuals are now talking about the Constitution and how important it is. Just 10 years ago, these hypocrites did everything they could to drag the Constitution through the mud and defile it. They were a disgrace then, and they are a disgrace now to the Senate Judiciary Committee for their ridiculous double talk."

"I was astonished recently to see the ABC news program '20/20' portray the prevalence and significance of gun violence in America as a 'media-fed myth.' As a trauma surgeon, I can assure you that the daily deaths and disability caused by gun violence are a reality that should not be dismissed in this manner."

"Commentator John Stossel made claims based on a misrepresentation of data and presented conclusions that cannot be supported by facts. ...In reporting that less than 100 children ages 15 and younger die annually due to gun accidents, he ignores the more than 500 deaths due to intentional injuries and the approximately 3,000 non-fatal firearm injuries in this group."

"More than half a million dollars was raised today from an auction of pricey cars, planes, boats and motorcycles owned by former gun-maker Bruce Jennings."

"The Jennings auction raised money that will be placed in his bankruptcy account and will largely benefit a 19-year-old California man left a quadriplegic by one of Jennings' guns."

"However, the winning bidder for most of the 21 items was Jennings' mother, who bought several items, including two of the motorcycles, one of the planes and three of the cars."

"Brandon Maxfield was 7 years old when he was left paralyzed by a gunshot. A California jury decided in 2003 that the gun was defective, making the gun manufacturer Jennings liable for $24 million."

"In the wake of a school shooting last week in Seminole County, where a 15-year-old boy was killed after police said he pointed a pellet gun at them, police and one educator in Volusia County say the future does not bode well on school campuses if children keep bringing realistic-looking toy guns to class."

"'I think that for the future, schools will look like airports with metal detectors,' said Matt Krajewski, principal of DeLand Middle School. 'We're going to have to check kids when they come in and out of the schools. We may have to see different kinds of fencing and gating at the schools, too.'"

"Buckeye Firearms supporter Chris Chumita was the first to order the new NRA plates at his BMV office, and one of the first in the entire state. Some have expressed concern that they would not be treated properly while asking for NRA plates, but Chris’ experience has been typical. Said Chris, 'There were no issues, weird looks, or snide comments. The new NRA Foundation license plates were mailed to me in less than a week. It was actually a pleasant visit to the BMV!'"

"Fred Stratmann of the Ohio BMV told Buckeye Firearms Association that 'the NRA Foundation plate did have better first-month sales than several new plates this year.' That is good news, especially considering that December is traditionally a slow month for plate sales."

"His constituents may not have noticed, but readers of Gun Week, a specialty trade rag catering to firearm enthusiasts, know all about Sen. John Giannetti's role in killing legislation to ban assault weapons in Maryland." ...

"And because of Giannetti, semiautomatic assault weapons remain freely available in Maryland, even as gun violence escalates in Prince George's, Baltimore, and in the state's other cities.

"'We've decided to make it clear, and to make it clear early, that we think the voters of District 21 should send this guy home,' said Jim Brady, chair of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. 'He was elected to represent the people of Prince George's and Anne Arundel, but he spends most of time sucking up to special interests. He's just an awful, awful elected official.'"

"I hope the Delaware legislature will not consider making it easier for good people to do bad things by making it easier to get a permit to carry handguns. If anything, they should make it harder to bring guns into our communities, print photos and give the public access to publish lists of those people who do carry guns. They should require people to watch a video of real life stories of people who have been shot with guns that are legally registered. ..."

"Instead of making it easier for guns to be owned and used, we should enact stricter rules and register each bullet that is sold and make the purchaser responsible for illegal activity performed by the bullet."

"Earlier this week we reported that Bruce Beatty, the Toledo area activist who was arrested for carrying a concealed firearm lawfully in a Toledo park, was held at gun point by Springfield Police."

"Beatty was traveling for work related purposes prior to attending last Tuesday's Criminal Justice Hearings. When he realized he was drowsy, Beatty looked for a place to stop and take a brief nap. Finding most rest stops closed in the area due to highway construction, he exited in Springfield and parked in the parking lot of a closed Denny's. This decision likely made him a target for random police patrols to 'investigate'."

"Yesterday afternoon marked the second day of proponent testimony for HB347 in the Criminal Justice Committee, and new faces appeared before the committee to address their concerns."

"Today, just like a week ago, its as if the New Media in Ohio is sticking it's thumbs in it's ears and completely ignoring these hearings. Where there would once be an Associate Press story the evening of the hearings recounting the testimony, there is nothing. Where there would be the usual extreme anti-gun laced articles, there are simply none."

"Two men robbed a custodian behind School No. 4 ...about 7:45 a.m. today, said Rochester Police Sgt. Clifton Mann."

"The men brandished a shotgun and demanded property from the custodian, then took off, Mann said."

"Officers are searching the neighborhood for two black males in their late teens, wearing dark clothing, Mann said." [emphasis added]

-------
Submitter's Note: Laws prohibiting armed robbery, possession of a firearm by a minor and possession of a firearm on school grounds didn't stop these teenaged thugs from brandishing a shotgun and robbing a school janitor. Thankfully, gun control didn't turn him into a statistic as it has so many who are denied their right to carry while working at a school or university.

KABA Note: "Gun free" school zone laws apparently had no effect on them either. What will it take for criminals to start obeying laws!

"The recent announcement of a handgun ban by Paul Martin has been a hotly debated political issue. ...The 'moral absolutist' position is typified by Vince Bevin, the Ottawa police chief. He admitted he doesn't know if gun control had saved any lives but felt that 'If this legislation saves even one life, it will have proven its worth'. As a moral absolute this is hard to criticize. Its political appeal to non-gun owning suburbanites and the emotions generated by public shootings is obvious. However, one might question whether this attitude towards a $2 billion gun registry is a proper cost/benefit analysis for a police chief in charge of allocating scarce law enforcement resources."

He contended that only sport shooters and gun collectors will be affected by the bill, because banned weapons are 'rarely used to commit crimes.'"

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
There is no way to rule innocent men. The only power government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. — Ayn Rand in her must-read novel, Atlas Shrugged
