It’s axiomatic — we “play like we practice,” and therefore should be “building our repetitions” with the same gear, even the same clothing, and as much as possible the same conditions we’re likely to encounter on “game day.” If the game in question is defensive shooting then it’s really no “game” at all, and the stakes are very, very high. |

The .40 S&W cartridge was developed with two specific goals in mind – to have more stopping power than the 9mm Parabellum, and better handling and manageability than the .45 ACP. With these goals in mind, a team comprised of technicians from Smith & Wesson and Winchester built the .40 S&W cartridge.

Almost as predicted by opponents of anti-gun Initiative 1639, the measure that among other things invented a definition for a “semiautomatic assault rifle,” anti-gun Democrats in the Washington Legislature have introduced legislation to ban so-called “assault weapons.”
I-1639 defined “semi-auto assault rifles” as literally any self-loading rifle, regardless of caliber (including rimfires) that has ever been manufactured anywhere in the world. Under the more specific definitions found in Senate Bill 5217 and its companion measure, House Bill 1229—both introduced at the request of anti-gun Democrat Attorney General Bob Ferguson—rimfires do not appear to be included. |

The first prototypes of Colt’s Cobra line of double-action revolvers were produced in 2016. American Rifleman’s review last August explains, “The design is a slightly larger J-Frame-size compact revolver made of stainless steel. Chambered for .38 Spl., the Cobra features a 2" barrel that is +P rated for the .38 Spl. cartridge. The barrel is also fully lugged to house and protect the cylinder's ejector rod.”

The Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to consider Permitless Carry Legislation, House Bill 102. Please contact committee members and ask that they SUPPORT House Bill 102. House Bill 102 will strengthen Montana’s self-defense laws by allowing law-abiding Montana gun owners to carry a firearm for self-defense throughout the state without first having to obtain a government mandated permit to do so. Further, this bill will remove some of Montana’s “gun-free zones” from the list of prohibited places and stop the unnecessary disarming of Montanans as they go about their day-to-day lives. |

State Senator Bob Ballinger’s Stand Your Ground bill has now passed through the Senate but he also has another Second Amendment bill on the horizon. SB59 would create the Arkansas Second Amendment Liberties Safeguard Act, which gives Arkansas courts a tool to use if they deem the federal government has over reached on any potential gun regulations. |

There is no sugar-coating it: Second Amendment supporters are in a tough spot at the federal level. The fact of the matter is that anti-Second Amendment extremists have taken the Presidency and have very narrow margins in the House and Senate. This is not an impossible situation, but Second Amendment supporters should be under no illusions about the difficult fights in the next four years. |

On January 14, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) finalized an NRA-supported rule to end politically-motivated discrimination in the provision of financial services. The new regulation is now set to take effect on April 1. As we reported last month, the rule follows a long pattern of banks refusing or curtailing service to lawful industries that have been targeted by political activists in and outside of the government. These have included businesses in the firearm and ammunition secto |

In a video message broadcast by CNN, Democrat Joe Biden put the lie to his widely-reported intent to preach unity during his inaugural address to what essentially will be a capital city occupied by some 22,000 National Guard troops by basically declaring war on about 100 million of his constituents. |

Nearly every big city in America is experiencing a tragic, senseless and preventable violent crime wave of historic proportions. In Chicago, gun crime is up nearly 60 percent over last year. When asked about it, Mayor Lori Lightfoot blamed “not enough access to the things that we know build healthy and strong families and communities.” She also trotted out the tired old lie that neighboring states with so-called “lax gun laws” are to blame for the criminal violence plaguing her own city. |

We all get jaded when hearing the stereotypical new product sell-points of “Versatile” and “Comfortable.” I mean, really, when’s the last time you heard a new product tout the fact it was horribly uncomfortable and dedicated to a single narrow task? Regardless of my curmudgeonly carping, I was amazed to discover the N8 Tactical OT2 IWB holster really does take such marketing concepts to new heights.

On the eve of the Presidential Inauguration, Brent Martin of Hawkeye Shooting Academy is trying to stay focused on business as usual with his uncertainty that looms as President Donald Trump prepares to leave the White House. "Especially since the Democrats have a one-seat majority in the Senate now, that is also caused a lot of fear that they will be able to ram in and through some sort of gun legislation," Martin said. |

The old straight-six engine finally quit turning over shortly after midnight. The battery was sucked of its last cranking amperage by churning that motor over at negative 30 degrees in one hopeless/last attempt to get it to fire. It was no use. I had no cell phone, and it was too far to walk. Fortunately, being out predator calling on the crisp, moon-lit night, I had all my winter clothes on, but when you stop moving, the cold starts to slowly seep through. I was a cheechako (a greenhorn kid in Alaska) at the time, and although I wasn’t in a remote spot, it was far enough away from home that I would get a healthy dose of cold-weather education that night.
