A series of bills introduced in Lansing this week spelled out harsh penalties for unsafe gun storage.
Senator Rosemary Bayer of Beverly Hills co-authored the package of four bills, which if passed, would require gun owners to store their weapons safely away from kids and would bring criminal penalties if improper gun storage leads to injury or death.
Oxford is part of Bayer's district and she says she thought a lot about the November 30 tragedy when crafting the bills.
But Bayer actually brought up the bills last summer before four students were killed inside Oxford High School with a gun that prosecutors say the suspect brought from home. |

State Rep. Bruce Griffey’s (R) “Kyle’s Law,” HB1769, would require the state to reimburse defendants found not guilty of homicide charges due to self-defense. The payment would be decided in court and could be denied if the defendant was acting criminally.
“Kyle Rittenhouse had to defend himself not only against a first-degree murder charge over the course of a year-plus politically-motivated prosecution and a two-week jury trial,” Griffey said in a statement to Nashville's Fox 17. “But also against widespread defamation and false branding by corrupt media outlets, simply for exercising his American, God-given right to self-defense.” |

Assembly Bill 498 lowers the minimum age to apply for a concealed carry permit from 21 years old, to 18 years old. Adults aged 18-20 are old enough to vote, serve on a jury, serve in the military, and enter into contracts. It is unreasonable for the law to discriminate against them by preventing them from exercising a fundamental right to defend themselves and their families. |

They have been on multiple cable television networks, and have a presence on social media, and now the Second Amendment Foundation will take its informational message to the radio airwaves, warning about Joe Biden’s gun control plans.
SAF announced the upcoming radio blitz Wednesday morning. The timing, according to SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb, is critical. Biden’s tanking poll numbers and his inability to push any of his other agenda items through Congress leaves one major target for the Delaware Democrat: Guns and the Second Amendment. |

Even a rudimentary analysis of violence clearly displays an overwhelming trend: most violence that takes place in public happens in transitional spaces. There is violence in the home and in the workplace, both of which account for a great deal of overall assault and criminal activity each year, but outside of these specific locations, the most likely place for dangerous confrontation and criminal predation is within transitional spaces. |

The ammo shortage is no longer news and has sharply limited most of our ability to practice. Fortunately, this scarcity is not new to the military which has used things like subcaliber conversions for nearly a century. A .22 conversion was one of the first accessories developed for the M1911 and the U.S. military even adopted a floating-chamber .22 conversion for their belt-fed .30 machine guns — both, interestingly, designed by Dave “Carbine” Williams of M1 carbine fame. With its 0.223″ bore, the M16/AR15 was and remains particularly easy to convert. Alas, it’s harder for us who love the .308 as $0.50 a shot was a good price in normal times. But there is hope. |

A bill in the state senate would establish a $50,000 fine for an Iowa city and law enforcement agency where an officer enforces federal gun regulations that are stricter than the state’s. The bill is part of a campaign that has prompted county supervisors to designate 33 Iowa counties as “Second Amendment Sanctuaries” where federal gun laws wouldn’t be enforced by local officials if the Biden Administration or congress were to enact tougher regulations. Senator Zach Nunn of Bondurant, a Republican congressional candidate in Iowa’s third district, is the sponsor of the so-called Second Amendment Preservation Act. |

House Democrats want law enforcement officials to consider banning lawmakers from bringing guns into the Capitol and neighboring office buildings, a move that seems aimed specifically at GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado. On Wednesday, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer of Maryland wrote to the Capitol Police Board, urging it to extend the long-standing firearm ban to lawmakers, who are typically exempt from any security screening when entering buildings within the complex. |

The history around the development of the .500 Nitro Express is not entirely clear. It first appeared in the United Kingdom in the late 19th century, where it evolved from the .500 Express case. The difference between the two is that black powder is loaded in the .500 Express, and cordite is loaded in the .500 Nitro Express. |

Given the year that 2021 was, what type of new handguns would you expect to see for 2022? The answer to that question should be obvious. With more and more folks wanting to carry handguns for personal protection, 2022 looks to be the year of the ultra-compact 9mm pistol. A man was shot in rural Paso Robles on Tuesday night, in an incident the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office is describing as self-defense.
Deputies responded to a report of a shooting on the 14000 block of Chimney Rock Road around 10:50 p.m., according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.
The incident initially was reported as two trespassers in a car on the property.
According to the release, Daniel Enriquez David, 67, was inside the home and confronted one of the trespassers. |

In a statement on behalf of the teen's family, who had previously called for criminal charges, civil rights attorneys Andrew M. Stroth and Steven Hart said they were "extremely troubled" by Bennett's decision not to prosecute.
"This is yet another instance of an unarmed Black teenager killed by law enforcement with impunity," and without "threat of reprisal or even an ounce of accountability," the statement said. "Similar to the George Floyd case, Cedric's death was caused by authorities obligated to protect him. In this case, they restrained Cedric in the prone position and took his breath away." |

Though a pro-Second Amendment majority sits in the House of Delegates this session, that’s not stopping anti-gun lawmakers from continuing to push the same radical gun control they’ve pushed for the past two years. Here is one bill that shows they are as dedicated as ever to chipping away at the right to self-defense.
House Bill 590, sponsored by Delegate Schuyler VanValkenburg (D-72), requires anyone with firearms in the same residence as a minor under 18 years of age, to store them unloaded in locked containers, and store ammunition in separate locked containers. There are limited exceptions for firearms carried on the person, and firearms that are within both two feet of distance and eyesight. |

Over the past several years, there has been much reporting and speculation over the lawsuit filed by New York Attorney General Leticia James calling for the dissolution of the National Rifle Association. The New York suit is just one in a blizzard of lawsuits filed by or against the nation’s largest firearms organization. It has been perceived as the most significant, posing the greatest threat to the Association, but when all the cards are laid out, it may not be the most significant. |

Oakland on Tuesday became the latest California city to ban the components for easy-to-assemble and impossible-to-trace “ghost guns,” whose popularity has spiked in recent years amid a wave of gun violence in the city. The ordinance, which passed unopposed, takes aim at the rapid proliferation of the firearms, which can be ordered online and delivered without a serial number or the buyer undergoing a background check. |
