A state senator has proposed a tax exemption to encourage the purchase of safety equipment for firearms, but many are skeptical that it will do any good.
Sen. Jo Anna Dossett, D-District 35, said Senate Bill 1476 will cover gun safes, lock boxes, trigger locks and more. The state tax commission projects a $271,555 revenue impact if this exemption is passed. The Center for Disease Control figures suggest taxpayers spend more than $200 million each year on gun deaths and injuries. |

Freedom Munitions is beefing up the X-DEF defense line with the addition of a powerful .44 Magnum cartridge.
Designed for defense, this .44 Mag cartridge utilizes a brass case with X-Treme Bullets’ copper plated, 240 grain X-DEF hollow point expanding bullet and is loaded with premium, low-flash powder. Thoroughly tested in Freedom Munitions’ own underground ballistics lab, the 240 grain projectile travels at a velocity of 1350 fps with a 6” barrel and penetrates 15”-18” in clear ballistic gelatin. In a grizzly situation, this component recipe and kinetic energy of 971 ft lbs provides an effective choice for protection. |

This week, the Indiana House Judiciary Committee passed HB 1235 on an 8-2 vote. It will now head to the House floor for a possible vote next week. Additionally, the House Financial Institutions Committee held a hearing on HB 1084, The Second Amendment Privacy Act, prohibiting the use of firearm-related Merchant Category Codes. This bill will have a second hearing with possible amendments offered next Thursday, January 25th.
House Bill 1235 will make Indiana law consistent with other states by prohibiting local governments from lodging frivolous lawsuits against firearm manufacturers. For years cities like Gary, Indiana have sued firearm manufacturers for the unlawful misuse of their products by criminals. |

On Thursday, two bills submitted by South Dakota Representative Dusty Johnson passed out of the House Judiciary Committee. The bills focus on the Second Amendment and the right to own a firearm.
To be able to purchase a firearm in the United States, you need to have an identification card such as a driver’s license, passport, or military ID. However, Tribal IDs are not currently accepted, and because of this, Representative Johnson re-introduced the Tribal Firearm Access Act, which would classify a Tribal ID as a valid form of identification for the purchase of firearms. |

Such sentiment is not unique among gun owners. Unfortunately, it’s also not correct. Working backward through the assertions, of course it’s in the interests of a state to ensure that corporations it registers are in compliance with its laws, and while there’s no doubt that AG James has a personal axe to grind and incentives to wield it, NRA management knew the environment they were operating in, and the many reported breaches of fiduciary duty appear so reckless, irresponsible, and arrogant they defy explanation. And the buck stops with the top guy. |

When cops stopped Antonio Sing-Ledezma's car following a shooting outside El Paso, Texas, in March and asked him if he had anything illegal on him, he didn't mention the handgun with the scratched-off serial number hidden in the vehicle.
Sing-Ledezma, who did admit to having some marijuana and a glass pipe in his jacket pocket, told the officers that he had just been shot. When they asked him who pulled the trigger, however, he became uncooperative. A subsequent search of his vehicle turned up the weapon. |

'If you're using a legal product, I don't see how that can nullify a constitutional right.' Gov. Ron DeSantis said Friday that he believes there is no incompatibility between the use of medical marijuana and the right to bear arms.
Asked about whether cannabis patients have 2nd Amendment rights, the Governor sided with marijuana users on constitutional grounds.
“I don’t think that that’s constitutional, to be honest with you,” he said regarding the current perceived incompatibility. “I think if you’re using a legal product, I don’t see how that can nullify a constitutional right.” |

House Bill 137, the Governor's Gun Ban & Magazine Limit Bill, was filed late yesterday by radical progressive State Rep. Andrea Romero (D-Santa Fe). This extremist legislation, patterned after New Mexico U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich's failed GOSAFE Act, is aptly entitled the "Gas-Operated Semiautomatic Firearms Exclusion Act." This measure would outlaw nearly all semiautomatic rifles and shotguns, as well as a number of handguns that law-abiding citizens commonly own for self-defense, competition, and recreation.

“It is no accident that this issue has arisen in the context of an organization advocating for Second Amendment rights,” argues the brief. “Vullo is not the first politician with apparent disdain for the people’s right to keep and bear arms and she will not be the last. But tactics like hers have spread and will continue to do so if this Court does not send a strong message that the First Amendment rights of organizations promoting the right to keep and bear arms are just as protected as anyone else’s.” |

On Nov. 7, 2023, the U.S. Supreme Court held an oral argument for United States v. Rahimi, a case that challenges the federal ban on gun possession by a person subject to a domestic violence restraining order (DVRO).
The Supreme Court agreed to hear this case after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit invalidated the federal ban because a person is presumed to have Second Amendment rights. America has no historical tradition in the Founding period of disarming persons on the basis of anything like a DVRO. Meeting that threshold is something the U.S. Supreme Court decided in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen (2022). |

First she tried to stop the animal with a broom. Then she hit it with a small axe. When that didn't work, Pat Turner said she shot and killed a stray pit bull that ran into her Hutto home and grabbed her small dog.
Her 11-year-old poodle/Yorkshire terrier mix named Chet survived the attack on Jan. 11 after receiving several stitches, Turner said.
"I am shocked that I was able to go from picking weeds in my front garden to shooting a pit bull to death in my bedroom," she said Friday at her house on Mitchell Drive. "If that dog had polished off Chet, it could have turned on me." |

In January 1985, Sol Wachtler, then the newly minted chief judge of the New York Court of Appeals, commented to The New York Daily News that prosecutors in his state could "by and large" get grand juries to "indict a ham sandwich."
To date, the ham sandwiches have remained free. But the spirit of the maxim—that district attorneys can usually secure an indictment regardless of a case's merits—has likely attracted some modern-day supporters with the prosecution of Daniel Penny, whom a grand jury indicted on second-degree manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide charges in June. This week, a judge rejected Penny's motion to have those charges dismissed. |

Walther Arms has updated its .380 line-up with the new PD380, an improvement over the company's earlier PK380 with features designed to make it an attractive defensive option for those who are recoil-averse or have trouble racking more traditionally build CCW guns. Notably, the Walther PD380 combines a locked-breech action with an external hammer, reducing the racking force required to make the gun ready to fire. The single-stack magazine configuration also reduces the amount of spring tension a shooter will encounter when loading the magazine, making it easier to load and shoot. |

“You cannot legislate for crazy,” retired state trooper Bob Barnes, of Somerset, said recently. “Guns are not the problem. It is the broken mental health system. I saw the brokenness from the 1980s to the early 2000s.”
Barnes believes HIPPA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) is another problem in the “take guns away” culture.
“HIPPA ties people’s hands, especially those other need-to-know sources,” he said. “Those in the dark have no way of knowing a person’s mindset.”

One of my favorite parts of New Hampshire is your state motto.
‘Live free or die’ is the motto I have led by in Florida, and it’s the mindset I’ll bring to the White House as president.
On issue after issue, I have fought back against every government scheme on our freedoms.
I protected citizens’ Second Amendment rights and delivered constitutional carry for the people of Florida.
I kneecapped big corporations from imposing their agenda and picking winners and losers in private business based on a political litmus test. |
