A strip club manager opened fire on two men who attacked him during an attempted robbery early this morning in suburban West Palm Beach, authorities said.
The gunfire broke out about 6:30 a.m. at Flashdance, 4458 Purdy Lane, when the men and a female accomplice confronted the manager in a rear office after the business had shut down, said Paul Miller, a spokesman for the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.
The 54-year-old manager grabbed a gun and began firing in self-defense, Miller said. He chased them out of the club and fired again at one of the fleeing men, but it was unclear if anyone was struck, he said.
Sheriff's officials were still investigating the incident this morning. |

"Some federal legislators are working to catch up to what is already law in Illinois, a bill designed to make handgun use in self defense legally permissible."
"Despite Gov. Rod Blagojevich's veto, Rep. John Bradley, D-Marion, received the self-defense handgun law he pushed for last year, when the general assembly overrode the veto in November. The bill effectively allowed a person to fire a handgun in self defense inside his or her home, without being prosecuted."
"Now, lawmakers in Washington will likely discuss a bill recently introduced by Rep. Roscoe Bartlett, R-Maryland, asking for the same type of provision to people who use a handgun for protection inside their homes." |

"A high school senior on Wednesday asked a federal judge to delay publication of his yearbook until a case over whether he can use a photo of himself holding a shotgun as his portrait is settled."
"Londonderry High School officials told Blake Douglass last year the photo could appear in the yearbook, but not as his portrait. Douglass sued, arguing the decision violated his freedom of speech and expression."
"Besides the injunction request, U.S. District Judge Steven McAuliffe also must consider whether a new policy the school board adopted last week - to ban all props from senior photos - should apply to the 2005 yearbook."
"Penny Dean, Douglass’ lawyer, argued on Wednesday that the new policy was enacted specifically to block her client’s photo. An earlier policy made only general restrictions against libel, obscenity and discriminatory content."
------- Note: The story is not completely accurate. The new policy was adopted pending a second public reading on January 25th. |
