"But wait a second. This is the guy who said 'What works in Chicago may not work in Cheyenne.' Doesn't that count for something?

"A good way to see if words pass the smell test is to compare what someone says when they want something to what they actually intend to do. And in this case, you'll note his proposed 'solutions' under the heading 'Address Gun Violence in Cities' will apply across the board, regardless of whether you live in Chicago or Cheyenne."

... "The Lee-Enfield is one of the oldest, and still widely used, rifles on the planet. Over 17 million were manufactured between 1895 and the 1980s. While there are more AK-47s out there (over 20 million in private hands), these are looked down on by those who use their rifles for hunting, or killing with a minimum expenditure of ammunition. The 8.8 pound Lee-Enfield is a bolt-action rifle (with a ten round magazine) noted for its accuracy and sturdiness. The inaccurate AK-47 has a hard time hitting anything more than a hundred meters away, while the Lee-Enfield can drop an animal, or a man, at over 400 meters." ...

Police said the homeowner's wife and two children were there when the incident happened. They are all OK.

"In the 11 years since England enacted some of the world's strictest gun-control laws, gun crime there has doubled. No surprise. Wherever they're tried, such laws only disarm ordinary citizens, making them easier prey for criminals."

"England's laws also produced a spike in violent crime and contributed to the proliferation of teen gangs. This in turn has led to a nationwide decline in the average age, from 24 to 19, of violent criminals and their victims. Some adults fail or refuse to connect the gun-control dots, but young thugs aren't so obtuse. They know gun restrictions make crime, by gun, blade or other weapon, easier."

Critics say that gun buy back's don't work. Studies show that few gun buy backs can ever be directly credited for decreases in crime or in some cases, crime goes up even in the wake of a gun buy back.
Well heck, Chief--you've convinced me.
I can't say for sure what impact gun buy backs have on a community, but I can say this. There are now 997 guns that from this day forward cannot be used in any future crimes.
And I can say that "there are now 997 guns that from this day forward cannot be used" by a woman to stop a rapist, by parents to defend their children, or by a senior citizen to avoid being the helpless prey of the young, strong, and thuggish.
