A policeman shot and killed his wife before turning the gun on himself at their home in Nqeleni village, Umtata on Tuesday, Eastern Cape police said on Wednesday.

Captain Zamulkulungisa Alfred Jozana said the couple apparently had an argument before the policeman shot his wife in the neck. She was admitted to a local hospital and died shortly afterwards. The policeman died on the scene.

Their names have not yet been released.
