... "The fascinating thing about intellectuals is that they actually believe that their trench warfare over footnotes and data actually MEANS anything in the grand scheme of things as we are faced with today."

"All of your snarky arguments are about to be overwhelmed by events. Either the society collapses under the economic tidal wave that is about to hit (in which case those who have firearms will no doubt survive better than those who eschew them, and the armed will be ill-disposed to obey any scheme that works toward their disarmament) or the Obamanoids will proceed with AWB2 and the federal seizure of control over all private transfer of arms ... thus sparking armed civil disobedience if not outright civil war." ...

"Critical decisions, based purely on emotions, at the expense of reason, are at the very least, dangerous in the extreme. The emotional hysteria involving the coronation of our new president is frightening indeed and should be seen by those who truly believe in the Bill of Rights, especially the Second Amendment (2A), as a gathering storm. This type of intense worship and adulation for a statist leader has not been witnessed since the 1930s in Europe."

"The deck is stacked against liberty and personal freedom: the President is anti-gun, the Vice-President is anti-gun, the Speaker of the House of Representatives is anti-gun, the Senate Majority leader is anti-gun, the Attorney General is anti-gun, as is the majority of congress." ...

"Gun owners now face what appears to be the seeming inevitability of nationwide gun registration and ammunition registration. Many longtime pro-gun advocates, even in their most fitful dreams, had not foreseen the immensely somber showdown we are confronting."

"... The goal: Confiscation."

"Is 'confiscation' too harsh a word? ..."

"Gun control in the United States generally has meant some type of supply regulation. Some rules are uncontroversial like usertargeted restrictions that define the untrustworthy and prohibit them from accessing the legitimate supply. Some have been very controversial like the District of Columbia’s recently overturned law prohibiting essentially the entire population from possessing firearms. Other contentious restrictions have focused on particular types of guns—e.g., the now expired Federal Assault Weapons Ban. Some laws, like one-gun-a-month, target straw purchases but also constrict overall supply. Various other supply restrictions operate at the state and local level. ..." ...

It declared that the Illinois senator 'would be the most anti-gun president in American history.' FactCheck.org, a nonpartisan project of the University of Pennsylvania's Annenberg Public Policy Center, issued a scathing analysis of the NRA’s effort, saying it 'distorts Obama’s position on gun control beyond recognition.' "Investigators said they think Washington was involved in several other robberies in the county. The Jan. 9 robbery attempt ... was similar to five other robberies within a mile of the area ... Washington was charged in 2006 with carrying a concealed weapon. He was acquitted. Washington was shot by a man who told deputies that two men approached him, one with a shotgun, and tried to rob him. The victim, who has a concealed-weapons permit, pulled out a handgun and shot Washington ... witnesses corroborated the victim's story, and detectives consider the shooting a case of self-defense."

"Nearly everything in the emotional armamentarium of the anti-violence movement is anti-self-defense, as if fighting back in resistance contributes to violence. This is a social engineering change that has taken rather capably by now, as so many anti-gun laymen actually believe it, having abandoned their own values of self-preservation. Does this not affect the ones they love? Non-gun owners, especially heads of household, need to examine just how they will meet and answer violence in their lives at home and away from home. After all, you do not find violence, it finds you. Quitting or planning to do nothing is to abandon that responsibility for self and loved ones, and, of course, that decision of political protest will not stop thugs." ...

KY3 News (Springfield, MO's NBC affiliate) reports a dramatic spike in the number of Missourians applying for concealed carry permits.
Gun rights supporters fear the new president will get Congress to impose new gun control laws. That fear triggered a suree in gun sales nationwide after the election in November.

Instead of waiting, more people are exercising their right to personal protection.

In Springfield, concealed carry courses are booked full through April.
In fact, the difficulty in meeting the demand for defensive handgun carry training (required by law for a permit) mirrors the difficulty in keeping up with demand for popular firearms in the wake of Obama's electoral victory.
