The man accused of shooting three people in downtown Iowa City in August is going to trial Monday. Lamar Wilson is charged with the murder of one man and the attempted murder of two others in Iowa City’s Pedestrian Mall, which was crowded with bar patrons at the time of the shooting. The high-profile case will also be the state’s first trial involving a self-defense claim under Iowa’s new "stand your ground" law. |

A homeowner who lives near Yellowstone National Park was loaded for bear one night in October—and it’s a good thing that he was. After hearing a loud noise coming from his garage, the resident grabbed his gun and went to the front porch to investigate, whereupon he learned that a grizzly bear had broken through a huge metal door into the garage, where an elk carcass was hanging. When the bear spotted the man, it turned and advanced.

Gun dealers in Virginia say firearms sales have fallen during President Donald Trump's first year in office. The Richmond Times-Dispatch reported Friday that fewer people are afraid the Republican administration will restrict gun sales. Firearms purchases dropped 3.5 percent last year, falling below the record half-million mark set in 2016. Gun shops described the decline as a "hangover" following the panicked buying during the Democratic Obama administration. |

A Chicago police officer who faces potential firing for fatally shooting two people in 2015 has been charged with misdemeanor offenses following an off-duty bar fight last month. Officer Robert Rialmo turned himself in to a police station Monday and was arrested on two counts of battery and one count of theft, all misdemeanors, said Police Department spokesman Anthony Guglielmi. He was released on his own recognizance, department officials said.

SIG Sauer has become much more than a handgun company in recent years, developing and manufacturing rifles, ammunition, optics, suppressors and even airguns. And while the SIG brand is well known in the self-defense and “tactical” markets, the company now focuses on hunting as well. SIG Sauer quality and engineering are things hunters will immediately appreciate in the new ASP20 break-barrel air rifle; it’s not just an airgun with a SIG sticker on it but instead purpose-built at the SIG Sauer factory in New Hampshire.

New York has an “assault weapons” ban, a “high capacity” magazine ban, universal background checks, and “gun violence” costs of over $5.6 billion a year. In other words, gun control is not working in New York, just as it has not worked in Chicago or Baltimore. The annual cost of “gun violence” was put forth via a study by Gabby Giffords’ gun control group and published by New York Daily News.

Journalist and comic Tim Young gained a new appreciation for gun rights last week after he was mugged at gunpoint. “I realized that anyone, anywhere, can be a victim of a crime,” Young told TheBlaze. “I took my not previously being a victim of a crime for granted and never thought to protect myself before that moment. In less than three minutes, or however long that incident was, I went from someone who was simply pro-Second Amendment to a gun-rights advocate.”

If you’ve bought a new gun within the past 40 years, the SHOT Show has likely served a purpose in your life. While it’s not necessary to know a lot about the giant trade show of the shooting, hunting and outdoor industry—and it doesn’t matter if you’ve ever attended, or ever will—the show is important nevertheless because it uniquely enables the free trade in firearms so critical to keeping us a free people.

In an effort to reduce violent crime in Alaska in 2017, Federal, State and Local law enforcement agencies banded together, starting a multi-agency initiative in August. One of the task force strategies is charging felons caught with guns they shouldn't have in Federal Court, where they're likely to face stricter penalties. It's a push to get and keep weapons out of the wrong hands. |

I finally worked my way down an aisle that had escaped my attention for the previous four grueling days of the 2016 Shooting, Hunting & Outdoor Trade Show. And there it was, a black, red and white, mostly black, edifice, reaching for the convention-center ceiling. The Barrett booth is always a treat. You have, of course, the big .50 BMG semi-automatics—the M82A1s and the M107—guns that American troops rely on every day to reach out and touch our nation’s enemies. Too, you have precision bolt guns, such as the 98 Bravo, the MRAD and the Model 99. Then there were racks and racks of REC7 selfloaders. |

This is a simulation, but it's based off of a very real kind of situation. Church shootings have claimed the lives of 60 people just in 2017. Ken Kennedy has been a police officer for 38 years. Now, he's using his knowledge about guns and crime to teach people in his own church about what to do in the event of a shooting. "Churches have become targets for terrorism so we are teaching security teams in churches in the area how to respond if somebody comes into their church with a handgun" says Kennedy. |

If I let you peek into my gun safe at home, you’d see that the vast majority of my long guns are topped with Leupold riflescopes. And I bought every one of them for full retail long before I had a cushy “Can I field test that new scope?” job with OutdoorHub. Today, during the 2018 SHOT Show Industry Day at the Range, I drooled over yet another fine product from Leupold, the new Mark 5HD line of riflescopes. Because the company’s press release pretty much hits the nail on the head, let me quickly quote the basics. |

Compared with last year, 2018 can't be any worse for American Outdoor Brands (NASDAQ:AOBC), right? The slowdown in gun sales wrecked its stock, which lost 40% of its value, and though data indicates industry weakness will persist, there are some very good reasons to be hopeful that this year will be better, though not its best.
