A legislative hearing on holding a public vote to amend Washington’s state constitution to enshrine the rights to hunt, fish and trap attracted a lot of attention this afternoon in Olympia, one of a baker’s dozen worth of bills to watch over the coming weeks. Prime sponsor Senator Keith Wagoner (R-Sedro-Woolley) termed his resolution as “pure a grassroots movement as possible,” one he said that came not from heavyweight national players but from a neighbor he’d hunted with as a teen.

Each SHOT Show brings new rifles of every type, style, and caliber, and we’ve seen some interesting ones over the years. We’ve seen booms in ARs and tactical rifles over the years — a trend that has influenced the style of hunting rifles, too. This year we’re noticing an excellent mix of tactical and precision-influenced rifles, but also some more traditional-style hunting rifles with wood stocks.

Dallas, Texas-based Rost Martin is a new name on the firearms market, but its inaugural pistol doesn't feel like a first outing. Teased earlier this month before its planned debut at SHOT Show in Las Vegas, the company's RM1C pistol in a nutshell is a 9mm polymer-framed striker-fired handgun that uses a double-stack magazine. Big deal, right? Nothing that hasn't been on the market since at least the early 1980s.
