They tell me that a picture is worth 1,000 words. When it comes to the Winchester Model 1897 “Trench Gun” in World War I, a combat photo of the gun is worth all the words I could ever write about it. What all the fuss is about: The 12-ga. Model 1897 Winchester, adopted as the U.S. “Model of 1917 Trench Shotgun.” One of the most intimidating looking firearms ever made!

Why, then, have so many of them not recertified their permits under the New York SAFE Act? The answer is some of them are thumbing their otherwise clean noses at the law.

Lamenting the fact that more than 900 Virginians were killed by guns last year, Gov. Ralph Northam said Tuesday that the state should do more to restrict the proliferation of firearms. “We do not need these weapons on our streets and in our society,” Northam told a multi-faith congregation at St. Paul’s Church. The governor spoke at an event organized by the Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy. Just hours later, however, the state Senate passed a bill allowing people to bring guns and knives to churches and other places of worship. |

The debate on guns and gun regulation continues to be hotly debated. As the Bill of Rights in the Constitution of the United States of America states: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
