"The highly-touted 'summit' of an anti-gun mayors' association today in Washington, D.C., appears to be all rhetoric and no real solutions to violent crime in America, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today."

"'Whether you're talking about a desire of anti-gun mayors to get their hands on confidential generic gun tracing data to fuel harassment lawsuits of gun manufacturers and dealers, or a so-called 'sportsmen's group' claiming to represent hunters and shooters and their opinions about the gun issue,' said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, 'you still have a gathering from which the nation's leading gun rights organizations and authorities were excluded.'" ...

"The arguments favoring the private ownership of handguns in this country are based on two myths."

"The first myth is that the Second Amendment ... guarantees private citizens the right to own handguns."

"The fact is this. The Second Amendment, in its entirety, states ... The National Rifle Association has succeeded brilliantly and cynically in convincing the public that the amendment consists only of the part that follows the comma." ...

"The second myth is that every private citizen needs a handgun to protect his loved ones ... This is a pernicious untruth. As a longtime trauma surgeon ... I cannot recall a single patient who had been shot by the resident of a private home while attempting to burglarize it ..." ...

"There is insufficient evidence to file charges in the slaying of a man shot in the back after robbing a grocery store at 12th and Green streets, according to Berks County District Attorney Mark C. Baldwin."

"Baldwin, citing conflicting witness accounts, said investigators have been unable to determine who fired the shot that killed Jason T. Mallow, 27, on March 3 and if Mallow was shot while he was inside or outside the store." ...

"Mallow had threatened owner Gregorio Zarzuela, 58, at knifepoint inside. Zarzuela's son, Hector, age unavailable, also was in the store at the time."
-------

Submitters note: The real reason that charges were not filed, is that the DA realized that he could not get a conviction in Reading, PA against someone that killed a robber. Why waste the taxpayers money.

At the Cannon House Office Building, 120 mayors from across the nation — including the District's Adrian Fenty and mentor Michael Bloomberg of New York — were together for a daylong meeting of the Mayors Against Illegal Guns coalition. ... While the coalition says it isn't pushing to roll back the Second Amendment's right to bear arms ... its call for stricter legislation going after illegal weapons has irked gun rights advocates."

"The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) said Wednesday that such a 'gun grab' will only lead to more crime, because it will impede the ability of citizens to protect legally themselves."

FULL TEXT BELOW:

City police were dispatched to 40 local stores that may be selling imitation handguns yesterday after they said a 13-year-old boy was arrested a day earlier with a toy gun he used to robbed a Chinese restaurant.

Police identified three stores where similar fake guns were being sold. Court appearances were issued to the owners and managers of the stores, said police Commissioner David Chong said.

County law prohibits sales of imitation handguns that look real.

"It is disturbing enough that a 13-year-old is alleged to have committed this crime and, aside from his arrest, our efforts to identify the resellers of these imitation guns is directly to diminish future opportunities of similar crimes occurring which place the safety of so many at risk," Chong said.

"On Wednesday the Ohio Supreme Court denied an appeal in Beatty v. Toledo, in which Ohioans For Concealed Carry had joined efforts with Mr. Beatty to pursue an appeal of the Sixth District's absurd decision. Many regular readers of our website will recall that the Sixth District Court of Appeals concluded in Beatty that Ohio's concealed carry law is 'not a general law' due to the fact that HB12 permits a private property owner to choose if their property is prohibited or not."

"The appellate court concluded that this was not a 'uniform and consistent' statewide application of the law, and therefor argued that local governments could pass conflicting and more severe ordinances such as prohibition in a park. ..." ...
