Maine recently eliminated its licensing requirement to carry a concealed gun, but it comes with little-known exceptions and some confusion in the reciprocal bordering state of New Hampshire.
For those, and other reasons, Second Amendment lawyer Penny Dean advises everyone who carries a concealed pistol or revolver to get a license from every state they travel to. |

Pete Nagy had been wanting to get his concealed pistol license so he could protect himself and anyone around him if someone ever started shooting.
But his wife wasn’t enthusiastic about him spending a day away from the family to take the pistol safety training course required by Michigan law.
Then, in mid-November, terrorists unleashed bloodshed in Paris, killing more than 100, and a few weeks later in San Bernardino, California, where 14 people were gunned down at a holiday party.
“Now she’s giving me the blessing,” said Nagy, a Bloomfield Hills resident and financial adviser who took a training class earlier this month.

The failure to defend the civil liberties of one is a failure to defend the civil liberties of all. This is particularly true when it is inconvenient or offensive to do so. For the sake of ease and self-interest, it is tempting to simply reason away the rights of others, or even deny their existence, yet the failure to defend the freedoms of others undermines the freedoms of everyone.
When it comes to addressing gun violence, the need to balance Second Amendment rights with gun control measures is no different. |

A new gun range that opened in a housing area last summer caused an uproar among its neighbors, and now the Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly is considering expanding regulations on gun ranges in the borough.
If approved, new outdoor gun ranges in general use and industrial zones would be required to go through a public process before opening. Currently, they are permitted outright. The proposed new regulations also write National Rifle Association firearms range safety standards into the borough code. The assembly votes on the proposed regulations in Ordinance 2015-67 on Thursday. |

Authorities say they'll strictly enforce a no-guns policy at a community meeting Monday over the standoff at an Oregon wildlife refuge.

School district officials became upset about the number of firearms at last week's forum, and they decided they would no longer host the meetings.
