Exclusive: TSA’s Email Threat ‘Last Straw’ for Congressman

"A sponsor of the anti-terrorism legislation aimed at arming commercial airline pilots against hijackers says a threatening email uncovered as part of a CNSNews.com investigation into the implementation of that program, is 'the final straw.' "

"U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) plans to introduce legislation, "right away," along with House Aviation Subcommittee Chairman John Mica (R-Fla.) and as many as 50 co-sponsors, to force major changes in the program. The proposal would primarily remove most of the Transportation Security Administration's influence over what is formally known as the Federal Flight Deck Officer (FFDO) program. Sen. Jim Bunning (R-Ky.) is expected to introduce an identical bill in the Senate."

-------
Congress says, "Arm our pilots." Bush says, "When I feel like it." In the meantime, American pilots train to shoot us down with Sidewinders. It's a crazy world!

"A federal judge has declared unconstitutional a portion of the USA Patriot Act that bars giving expert advice or assistance to groups designated international terrorist organizations."

"The ruling marks the first court decision to declare a part of the post-September 11, 2001 anti-terrorism statute unconstitutional, said David Cole, a Georgetown University law professor who argued the case on behalf of the Humanitarian Law Project." ...

"The case before the court involved five groups and two U.S. citizens seeking to provide support for lawful, nonviolent activities on behalf of Kurdish refugees in Turkey."

"The Humanitarian Law Project, which brought the lawsuit, said the plaintiffs were threatened with 15 years in prison if they advised groups on seeking a peaceful resolution of the Kurds' campaign for self-determination in Turkey."

"The judge's ruling said the law, as written, does not differentiate between impermissible advice on violence and encouraging the use of peaceful, nonviolent means to achieve goals."

"The government will destroy records on gun buyers after one day because of a provision Kansas Rep. Todd Tiahrt inserted into the spending bill that became law last week."

"The length of time for keeping records will be shortened from 90 days to one day after a gun buyer passes a background check."

"First proposed two years ago by Attorney General John Ashcroft two years ago, the change is a victory for gun rights advocates who argue that keeping the records is an invasion of privacy."

"Gun control advocates say that destroying records immediately will handicap efforts to keep guns away from criminals and others who should not have them."

"Hollowed out cellphones that can shoot four .22 caliber bullets are spreading but so far none have been found in the United States, Time Magazine reported."

"The magazine's latest edition said the cellphones are made in Croatia and have been seized in drug raids in the Netherlands, England and Germany."

"The cellphone guns are fired by pressing buttons on the key pad."

"The appearance of the disguised weapons is causing closer scrutiny at airports and other inspection points, with more owners forced to turn on their cellphones and demonstrate they are genuine."

"In a pre-9/11 poll, 67% of Ohioans said they preferred a CCW law that had training and background checks. Yet this isn't what we've been hearing from the gun ban lobby, now is it?"

"After reading these results from Zogby, you'll have good reason to expect that 67% figure has gone up in Ohio, as the numbers have gone up nationwide. We certainly don't expect to be seeing these new findings in the national headlines this week. But it is BIG national news."

"The NYC police officer who shot and killed an unarmed teenager on a Brooklyn rooftop early Saturday was described Sunday by his Wantagh neighbors as a 'jolly' family man and a 'nice guy.' "

"Those who know Richard Neri were slow to criticize and quick to praise the man who New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said may have committed an 'unjustified' shooting when he fired a bullet from his service pistol into 19-year-old Timothy Stansbury of Bedford-Stuyvesant."

" 'He had a jolly attitude,' said Steve Petrucci who lives across the street from Neri. 'I would have thought he was a chef.' "

-------
In other words, he was overweight and obviously did not have enough training with his firearm to effectively carry out his duties.

Judging from all the reports, there was likely no malice involved, but there was plenty of incompetence.

"House Speaker Naifeh blasted Rep. Vincent for introducing a bill that would let legislators carry guns without permits, calling it frivolous."

"Rep. Vincent said the part about the legislators was just the caption to a broader bill he planned to amend later changing various aspects of gun regulations."

"The answer, of course, is at least as complex as the problem: a government out of control on virtually every level, and freedom under siege at almost every turn. But, simplistically speaking, there are still things that can be done even by those who (for reasons I'm sure I don't understand) don't want to do all that much. Of course, before you do anything else, you need to commit to working for those things that are Constitutional, and against those things that are not." ...

"" 'When I'm collecting guns, I'm collecting history,' says Percival of Salem, owner of Saber Publishing, a budding producer of self-help books."

"Percival occupied one of 1,000 tables at the Rose City Gun Collectors 2004 Gun & Knife Show, which ran Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Expo Center. Organizer Wes Knodel said the show, one of seven he plans this year at the center, is one of the largest in the Northwest. Knodel said it drew 10,000 visitors to buy, sell, trade and admire guns and other weapons."

"Percival's pride and joy is a Manhattan Arms Co. revolver made, he supposes, in New York in the 1880s. It fires a .44-caliber Colt round from a cylinder that swings open horizontally from the barrel."

"If the answer is no, then what makes you think God wants the same sign in the front window of his house?" ...

"The United Nations is the tooth fairy of American politics: Few adults believe in it, but it's generally regarded as a harmless story to amuse the children. Since 9/11, however, the UN has ceased to be harmless, and the Democratic presidential candidates' enthusiasm for it has ceased to be amusing. The United Nations has emerged at best as irrelevant to the terrorist threat that most concerns us, and at worst as an obstacle to our winning the war on terrorism. It must be reformed. And if it cannot be reformed, the United States should give serious consideration to withdrawal."

"The UN has become an obstacle to our national security because it purports to set legal limits on the United States' ability to defend itself. If these limits ever made sense at all, they do not make sense now."

The UN is also a threat to our national security because of its consistent attempts to disarm us and render us vulnerable to yet more terrorist attacks.

"I read your rant against state Rep. Ray Rose's bill amending Amendment 22 (HB 1012), which is obviously more than you did with the bill prior to turning your editorial pencil amok."

"According to the editorial, Rose's bill would make it easier for people to avoid doing background checks on firearms sales at gun shows. Not true, at all. The bill does two things, both of which are needed. It clarifies the term 'collection,' which is horribly miswritten, defining it as a trade, barter or in-kind exchange of one or more firearms. Does that make any sort of sense to you? It certainly doesn't to me. The bill removes that definition. It leaves those items in the bill, but simply doesn't call them a 'collection.' "

"For simplicity, some people might be tempted to boil the John Hirko Jr. trial down to one issue: whether Hirko fired a gun at Bethlehem police before they shot him to death."

"But the trial is more complicated. Even if the suspected drug dealer shot at police, the police could still lose."

"The U.S. and Pennsylvania constitutions protect people from unreasonable searches. And the jury could decide that police acted unreasonably when — with no warning or almost no warning — they stormed into Hirko's home with submachine guns and a flash-bang distraction device."

Hirko was shot 11 times in the back. That should say it all.

"THE U.S. Congress has done a grave disservice to the average American and severely hindered law enforcement by sneakingly passing an amendment that requires the destruction of background records on gun sales within 24 hours."

"In a belated Christmas gift to the National Rifle Association, the measure was approved as part of a catch-all appropriations bill that was originally designed as a supplemental spending plan to keep government running. The Republican-controlled Congress tucked the measure deep inside the overbloated bill."

"Until now, the Department of Justice required a 90-day hold on firearm sales records to ensure the kind of background checks that have so far stymied more than a million illegal buyers."

-------
More than a million? Do these editors have proof that the criminals who were prevented from purchasing firearms via legal means did not go out and purchase them off the street or via a straw purchase?

The 90 day hold, according to government reports, did next to nothing to prevent crime. During the 6-month period of July 1, 2001 to January 2, 2002 the FBI initiated 235 firearm-retrieval actions based on information received after NICS examiners initially allowed the transfers to proceed. The FBI reports that during the six month period about 2.6 million NICS transactions were processed. Out of 2.6 million transactions processed through NICS, 228 firearms wound up in the wrong hands. That's .009 percent.

Police arrested a 59-year-old Turkish man Monday suspected of shooting two worshippers in a mosque in the western state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Police in the city of Gelsenkirchen, about 40 kilometers (25 miles) northeast of Duesseldorf, said the man pulled a pistol during morning prayers in the mosque and shot two other Turkish men, aged 48 and 58, while 20 others looked on.

The motive behind the killings was not immediately clear, police said.

The man fled the mosque and went home after the killings, where he was arrested without incident, police said.

Meanwhile, some Utah churches are banning guns on their premises rendering their worshippers just as defenseless and helpless as the worshippers in that Mosque.

"A FATHER and son were yesterday convicted of supplying criminals with thousands of deactivated guns, ready-made kits designed to convert them back into live weapons, and the expert knowledge to complete the task."

"The jury at Derby Crown Court was not told that the guns sold by William Mitchell Greenwood, 76, a former egg salesman, and Mitchell Verne Greenwood, 42, both of Catchills Farm, South Wingfield, Derbyshire, were used in several murders."

"The men offered supposedly safe AK-47 rifles, Uzi sub-machine guns and a variety of pistols from a shop in a converted farm building in a rural village."

-------
Gee, those gun bans are doing wonders, aren't they?

"A Virginia gun advocacy group is battling the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority over a regulation banning guns on its property - including sections of the heavily traveled Dulles Access Road, routes 28 and 606, and the Reagan National Airport Metrorail station."

"The Virginia Citizens Defense League claims MWAA is overstepping state and federal laws to purposely conceal the 'obscure and unknown' ban, essentially 'trapping' law-abiding gun owners who travel across authority property."

"The authority, which operates Dulles International and Reagan National airports, says it is not bound by 'the more general' state laws and that the ban is necessary to maintain airport security."

-------
As long as our tax dollars support your airports, we should be able to freely exercise our constitutional rights in said airports.

"Point Township police have a new weapon in their arsenal, but it’s not lethal."

"Officer Curt Brown was the first Point Township police officer to be trained to use the Taser M26." ...

"Tasers are hand-held weapons that use compressed nitrogen to shoot two small probes up to 21 feet."

"These probes are connected to the weapon by insulated wire. When the probes make contact with the suspect, the Taser transmits electrical pulses along the wires and into the suspect’s body through up to two inches of clothing."

"When hit, the suspect experiences a five-second shock that contracts his muscles, causing him to fall to the ground."

"Outraged cops and the Patrolmen's Benevolent Association ripped into Police Commissioner Ray Kelly yesterday for saying the shooting of a black Brooklyn teen by a white cop appeared to have 'no justification.' "

" 'It is absolutely wrong for Commissioner Kelly to have jumped to conclusions when he knows that the police officer involved has not had an opportunity to speak with the district attorney's office,' declared PBA president Patrick Lynch. 'This investigation should be allowed to move forward without being tainted by politics or comments by Police Commissioner Kelly or others.' "

-------
Kelly was revealing the results of a preliminary investigation. Is their desire to protect their brethren so great that it overrides their desire for justice?

"A heartbroken city law-enforcement officer yesterday pleaded with the cop who fatally gunned down his nephew to 'stand up and tell us the truth' about the shooting."

" 'I would like this guy to say, 'I shot your son,' ' said Wayne Clayburne, 46, the uncle of 19-year-old shooting victim Timothy Stansbury Jr." ...

"We want to forgive him. But it's wrong if you're going to make up a story and say my nephew did something wrong. Don't make up a story now."

-------
It is very telling that a fellow officer is issuing a statement which essentially predicts that the officer involved will attempt to make up a lie.

The poll is located on the right hand side of the page. One of its options states:

"Neither local control or state pre-emption cut it. The 2nd Amendment is an absolute right. No unit of government has the right to prevent law-abiding citizens from the right to keep and bear arms."

At 6:23 pm EST, the vote is overwhelmingly in favor of an absolute Second Amendment right. (81.64%)

"AN apologetic father has urged gun owners to make sure their weapons are properly secured -- after his 10-year-old son took a bullet to school."

"The prosecution based its case on the safe key being accessible from the key rack and the fact that the safe was in a visible place."

"Wilton said the offences had cost him not only the fine but also $3000 worth of rifles, which were confiscated and would be destroyed."

-------
Welcome to the fascist state. A child took a bullet to school. No one was hurt, but this was just a convenient excuse to confiscate private property.

"Cops in the van made a frantic 999 call to their base after coming under attack."

"One shot flew within inches of an officer’s head." ...

"The terrifying incident happened just two days after government figures revealed a big surge in violent crime."

"Statistics in a Home Office report showed that violent crime was up 14 per cent between July and September last year compared with the same period in 2002."

"And cases of murder and serious wounding had risen 18 per cent."

"They parade you and your 'arsenal' before the media. They let the media photograph the perfectly legal 'assault-style' rifle and ammo you had locked in the back of your vehicle (yes, it was perfectly legal even under Ohio law). They describe the collection of swords you were transporting—never mentioning that one was a dull-edged souvenir Lord of the Rings sword you'd taken to show your young nieces at Christmastime. They allow the media to take a photo of your tired, bewildered, uncombed self that makes you look like everybody's worst idea of a 'lone nut with guns.' "

"Most strangely, they mutter about the 'possible detonator' they found in your possession. You don't even know what they're talking about until a friend figures it out. A couple of years ago, the case broke on the keyless entry remote that opens the doors of your vehicle. Rather than pay $80 for a new remote, you put the electronics inside a different case—and the police tell the whole nation that this innocent object is a 'possible detonator.' " ...

"Don't make excuses. If you want people to defend your freedoms, defend theirs.

"Jeff 'Hunter' Jordan will be arraigned in Ashland, Ohio, on February 2, and he could use your support, both moral and financial. If you're in or near Ashland, consider attending his arraignment, February 2, 11:30 a.m., at the Ashland County Common Pleas Court. (If you go, please remember that it will help Hunter's case for you to dress neatly and behave in a way that makes it clear gun owners are exemplary citizens.)"

"With a provision that is in direct violation of the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, Congress is on the verge of prohibiting ads supporting marijuana policy reform from being displayed on public transportation systems across the nation." ...

"The provision at issue was inserted by U.S. Rep. Ernest Istook (R-OK) into the Consolidated Appropriations Act - 2004 (H.R. 2673) while this bill was in a House/Senate conference committee. The provision would prohibit all local transit agencies from displaying marijuana policy reform advertising if they receive funding from the federal government -- which is most transit agencies."

"Once again, an innocent American Citizen has been railroaded by a team of officials that to the man should be impeached and/or tried for multiple crimes against the American people."

"To say that this writer is angry is to understate his emotion at the moment. In the case of Dick Simkanin being railroaded by the infamous and criminal Internal Revenue Service, the people should demand justice, and demand the injustice doled out by a judge and attorney based on what they believe made void. What they believe does not belong in a court of justice and law - only facts, fairness, and impartiality do."

" 'An analysis of Texas data reveals that between 1996 and 1999, Texas permit holders were arrested for weapons-related offenses at a rate that was 66 percent higher than that of the general population,' Stammen said."

-------
What an unbelievable liar! Most of these so-called "offenses" involved improper concealment of the weapon or simply bringing it into a victim disarmament zone.

Arrest doesn't necessarily lead to conviction. DPS figures at the time this inept report showed its ugly head show only 29 percent of all misdemeanor and felony charges resulted in convictions.

A recent study confirmed that concealed-carry permit holders are 5.7 times less likely to be arrested for a violent offense.

Now a question for Sheriff Stammen: how many innocent citizens are killed by police error each year?

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed; as they are in almost every kingdom of Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any bands of regular troops that can be, on any pretense, raised in the United States. — Noah Webster in "An Examination into the Leading Principles of the Federal Constitution," 1787, in Paul Ford, ed., Pamphlets on the Constitution of the United States, at p. 56 (New York, 1888).
