A St. Louis police officer was charged with manslaughter Friday for allegedly shooting a colleague as the two played Russian Roulette, authorities said.

Hendren took all the bullets out of a revolver and then put one back in, police said in a probable cause statement.

Hendren took the gun back and pulled the trigger.

Police said Thursday that a preliminary investigation indicated that Hendren had “mishandled” the gun. Police Commissioner John W. Hayden Jr. called it an “accidental discharge of the weapon.”

Submitter's Note: Accidental discharge!!! Are you kidding me? The dumb cop pointed the gun at a person and pulled the trigger. This should be second degree murder. Sounds like special treatment for only one to me.

After spending a week in Las Vegas and walking the endless aisles at SHOT Show, here are my top five new firearms for the new year. These rifles/pistols are for one reason or another a product that I think will not only excite firearms enthusiasts but show innovation and growth from that company. More important, these firearms all continue to develop upon my favorite firearm platform: the AR-15.

While tens of thousands of firearms industry professionals including retailers, wholesalers, manufacturers and media are gathered in Las Vegas for the 2019 Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show, something subtle is happening out there in the hinterlands.

In New York State, the Grand Island Town Board this week declared via resolution that it opposed new gun control laws that infringe on the rights of gun owners, according to the Buffalo News.

Washington voters approved sweeping gun-safety legislation in November, passing Initiative 1639 by a wide margin. But many state lawmakers still want to do more. With that in mind, the Senate Law & Justice Committee held public hearings on several pieces of firearms-related legislation last week.

In 1982, the handgun world was tipped on its head. In that year, Austrian thermoplastics engineer Anton Glock, who had no previous experience with either firearms design or manufacture, submitted a prototype hybrid 9mm pistol for the Austrian military service handgun trials. As history has documented, his submission bested all of the other competitors’ designs in the torturous reliability and safety testing. Shortly thereafter, his upstart firm would be awarded the vaulted contract to produce his firearm (the Glock 17) to supply his nation’s military and police forces.

Marion Hammer is up for re-election to the Board of Directors of the NRA. It’s our turn to step up to the plate (as she has done for us consistently over the years) and support her. Marion has been unyielding in her support of the Second Amendment at both the state and national levels. If you are a voting member (Life Member or have been an annual member for five consecutive years) your ballot to elect NRA Board Members will be in the February 2019 issue of your NRA magazine. Ballot issues are arriving NOW.

This week, the U.S. Supreme Court agreed to hear a Second Amendment challenge to a gun control law for the first time in nearly 10 years. Arguments in the case will likely be heard during the court’s next term, which starts in October of 2019. During the opening decade of the 21st Century, the U.S. Supreme Court issued two landmark rulings that many hoped would revitalize the Second Amendment, which had been all but read out of the Constitution by activist lower judges that favored banning or heavily restricting firearms.

At the SHOT Show in Las Vegas this past week – an annual trade show put on by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) – the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to finally hear another Second Amendment case is the second thing everyone is talking about – the first being the coolest and smartest new gun designs being unveiled. Everyone except Larry Keane that is. He’s the senior vice president and general counsel for the NSSF, and for him, the court’s decision is first and foremost on his mind. “With the addition of Justice Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, this case could be decisive,” says Keane.

A package of gun control bills is expected to pass through the New York State Legislature this week. Long Island’s Democratic Sen. Jessica Larka, 14, said the reality is frightening. "I was not aware how much the real ones looked fake, the way they paint them," she said. Officer Chad Lutson, of the Union Township Police Department, said that is a familiar response from children and their parents. “Most parents aren't aware that some of these guns are painted to look like toys. Or what person would paint a red, yellow, green camouflage gun?" said Lutson, who is a trained gun instructor.

South African farm murders have long been a niche cause on the Internet, and the country has made headlines again due to a South African government plan to seize the land of white farmers under the guise of “South African land reform.” News of these farm murders and land seizures have gained steam with the release of Lauren Southern’s documentary Farmlands. And United States President Donald Trump has brought even more attention to the plight of Afrikaners with his tweet that he would be looking into the South African land and farm seizure.

Federal prosecutors plan to appeal U.S. District Judge Gloria Navarro’s decision to dismiss the charges against Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy by Feb. 6, according to a Wednesday court filing. Navarro dismissed the case against Bundy, his two sons and one other man “with prejudice” on Jan. 8, 2018, preventing the defendants from being retried. Bundy and the others faced 15 criminal charges related to a standoff with federal officials at his ranch in 2014.

Since their loved ones were killed in the Las Vegas shooting in October 2017, the families of the 58 people who died have faced a difficult decision: Should the shooter's guns be sold and the proceeds given to the families? Or should the guns be destroyed? Now an anonymous donor has donated $62,500 to ensure that guns owned by the shooter, Stephen Paddock, are destroyed, according to an attorney for a court-appointed administrator handling the shooter's estate. The collection as a whole has been appraised at a value of about $62,300.

Quite a lot has been written about the Victory First V43 slide, originally designed for the Glock G43 single stack handgun. The V43 slide springs forth from the mind of Matt Jacques, owner and operator of Victory First, one of the country’s premier training outfits aimed at the LEO/Mil/Privately Armed citizen crowd. Jacques wanted a way to maximize the full potential of the G43 platform, and get closer to what many people had been asking for for years, a single-stack G19.

They've revived a push to pass a state law allowing passengers to carry concealed weapons to protect themselves. The move is strongly opposed by Metro Transit officials, who say it actually would increase the risk to riders and police.

With the passing of legislation last year that allows the use of big bore air guns for harvesting big game animals in Texas, much interest in hunting/shooting with the power of air was generated. I have been asked what prompted me to begin shooting big bore air guns. My answer was a simple one. Shooting and hunting with a gun powered by air that could push a huge 350 grain bullet at well over 850 feet per second and develop 500 foot pounds of energy was totally new to me.
