We're giving a gun away in hopes of inspiring more of our readers to support us. The fundraiser is going slower than we need it to go to get us to a major, new, expansive program we'll be launching in the next 60 days.

Soon, we will be paying gun owners and gun rights activists to promote KeepAndBearArms.com.

Between here and there, we require support.

For every $20 you donate to KABA, you'll get one chance in 750 to win a very nice firearm.

Click here to see pictures of the firearm, details and the link to use to donate.

Thanks!

Athletes and Guns

"So, what do many NFL players do when they realize that their physical strength does not give them enough protection from violent crime? The same as many other would-be victims -- they get guns. Well over 50 percent of NFL players are estimated to own guns. By contrast, about 45 percent of Americans generally own guns. Shortly before New Year’s, the concern that a majority of NFL players actually own guns rated a news story in the politically correct New York Times." ...

"With high profile basketball players including Allen Iverson, Charles Barkley and Scottie Pippen having been arrested for illegal gun possession -- as well as football players such as Alonzo Spellman and Damien Robinson -- the issue of professional athletes and guns is often in the news, and this coverage helps form people’s opinions. (Though, in all these cases, charges were eventually dropped.)" ...

Unfortunately all of the nation's four leading pro sports leagues -- the National Football League, the National Basketball Association, the National Hockey League and Major League Baseball -- trivialize the athletes’ concerns over safety." ...

"There are now thirty-seven states that have adopted a shall-issue position on the issuance of concealed carry weapons permits. The basic difference between shall-issue and may-issue is that may-issue states tend to deny permits to regular folks. In many cases you have to be wealthy, famous, or otherwise influential to obtain a permit. Ordinary people have to prove a need that somehow always ends up being rejected as a legitimate need. For example, a single woman who is stalked and threatened by her ex-boyfriend does not demonstrate a need. The woman should apply for a restraining order."

"A family living in a violent gang-infested neighborhood should move. A real estate agent, traveling salesperson, or truck driver should look for other work. Under no circumstances should a person be allowed to defend herself with a firearm unless she is at home. Lawful self-defense with a firearm in the home is not lawful while outside of the home in the shan't issue cities and counties." ...

"As more and more states adopt the shall-issue policy, the need for national reciprocity becomes greater. The ability to travel freely and to provide for one's defense are hallmarks of liberty and should be recognized by our government."

Possible AWB Renewal Vote Soon in Senate

"S.659, the bill that limits junk lawsuits against the firearm industry, will be coming to the floor of the Senate in a month or so. It is almost a certainty that Sen. Feinstein & Co. will attempt to amend the bill with a renewal of the so-called "assault weapons" ban. While it is likely that this 'poison pill' amendment, if passed, will not make it through the House/Senate conference committee nor survive a final vote in the House (potentially killing the junk lawsuit bill), we have an opportunity to STOP the ban renewal in the Senate."

"A vote on this issue in the Senate would be very close, but could go either way. We need every single vote we can get. Please take just a moment to call both of your Senators, urging them to oppose S.1034 (the standalone bill that renews and slightly expands the 1994 'Assault Weapons' Ban) or any attempt to amend a ban renewal to S.659, the junk lawsuit preemption bill. Even if one or both of your Senators are known to be anti-gun, it doesn't hurt to remind them of how unpopular this issue is."

Every two and half minutes property crimes are committed in the U.S.

More Americans 65 and older are purchasing guns for protection. In fact 200,000,000 guns are in the hands of private citizens.

But, for the first time in history it's older Americans who own the most guns.

"12 gauge shotgun, then the next three are 22 rifles." Weldon Samm is part of a growing group of older Americans who own gun's.

While he uses the guns to hunt they're also used to protect himself, his wife and property.

Not so long ago, personal gun ownership was the highest among middle aged Americans. Now the trend has shifted to older Americans who are buying guns to protect themselves and their property. . . . .

Rifles are next

I just wanted to mention that Dan Proft's column on Hale DeMar in Wilmette ["Dose of Reality Demands Political Shootout on North Shore," January 12] is posted on KeepAndBearArms.com.

Also, in the article he talked about the limousine liberals and the illuminati on the Board. It is very interesting the letter I sent to the Board regarding their banning of firearms, basically calling them out as being elitists, Illuminati, Skull and Bones, Knights Templar, etc.

Even if they aren't members of these types of groups, they certainly hold the exact same philosophy. They are scared to death of an armed citizenry.

They will do whatever they can to ban guns, including rifles. That is next I am sure.

"Santa Cruz police have reissued advice to women on how to protect themselves from sexual assaults as the city deals with a disturbing spike in such attacks in and near the downtown area since September."

"There has been little to connect the cases to one another, so police believe they have more than one suspect on their hands."

"Today the police department reissued a set of recommendations. Among them:

"• Don't walk alone. Walk assertively, with your head up. Be alert.

"• Take a self-defense class.

"• Trust your gut feeling. Go to a safer place if you are concerned.

"• Don't hesitate to call 911." ...
---

Best of all, get a gun and be ready to use it! But then again, carrying a firearm for self-defense in Santa Cruz is a felony. So the choice to local women is clear: if you are confronted by a rapist, you either submit, fight him off with your bare hands and whatever other weapon is available -- or risk a felony prosecution for carrying illegally.

And gun banners actually believe they hold the moral high ground? Please. Opposing self-defense is the same as endorsing sexual predators.

"The Heritage Foundation and Wall Street Journal’s tenth annual Index of Economic Freedom pulls the wool over our eyes. The deception is unintentional and arises from a fatal flaw in the index."

"The index delivers the comforting conclusion that the US is the 10th most free country, far ahead of 155th ranked North Korea. However, the index ignores the simple truth that people who do not own the product of their labor are not free. People subject to an income tax do not own the product of their labor." ...

"Any American who thinks he owns his labor can test the proposition by refusing to pay his income tax. He will quickly discover that he is not a free person."

"They pistol-whipped and shot him when he refused to hand over his car."

"Someone I met literally became obsessed with me," said Katie Lahnmann, the victim of a four-year stalking.

She met the man while at a Chicago bar with a group of friends in October 1999.

Yet that night of fun turned into a prolonged nightmare for Lahnmann.

Stalking occurs when anyone follows, e-mails, phones or communicates "obsessively" to the point where it makes the victim afraid or concrened for their safety.

"In a year, close to 20 percent of college women are stalked," Merlin said of a National Institute of Justice survey published in 2000.

And yet the vast majority of colleges and universities mandate that their students be defenseless againt predators like these.

. . . "Time after time our so called 'leaders' use deception, lies (now called 'spin') and political rhetoric to manipulate the masses and corral them into their world of illusion. By creating dubious problems, demagogic reactions and fabricating solutions which only exacerbate the so called problems they previously created, they weave their web of treachery and wait like the Black Widow -- ready to drink the life-blood from their unsuspecting victim's veins. How many times have we seen partisan bickering take place over no more than the so called 'left' playing 'political up-manship' against the so called 'right', or the right blaming the left for favoring this special interest group or that special interest group, while in the end we still get pretty much the same thing-- SCREWED?" ...

"Police hunting armed robbers who hit a suburban Auckland bar on Monday night say they may pay for information and minor criminals need not fear a prosecution."

"Police have few clues on the three armed and masked men who burst in to The Hilly, a bar in the Auckland suburb of Hillsborough on Monday night. They were armed with a baseball bat, a pipe and a firearm, probably a cut down shotgun."

"The bar is owned by former rugby league star Brent Todd, who had two other bars robbed on the same day."

"However, police said today they had no evidence the robberies were linked." ...
-------

Of course these robberies are linked, by a common thread: robbers knew that armed self-defense against their illegal actions was unlikely in any of the three locations.

WASHINGTON (NNPA) – "DeLacy Davis leads marches against police brutality. He embraces victims’ family members and shouts through megaphones for justice and peace. And he testifies in courtrooms against rogue cops and holds seminars to teach people what to do when stopped by the police. DeLacy Davis is no ordinary activist. In fact, he would be the last person expected to be involved in these activities. That’s because Davis is a police officer. Twelve years ago, he decided he would stop tolerating unprovoked beatings and abuse of criminal suspects by police when he established Black Cops Against Police Brutality (B-CAP.)" ...
