Arrests

"In Manila, a policeman and two security guards were arrested for indiscriminately firing their guns, Metro Manila police Director Ricardo de Leon said."

"He identified the suspects as PO3 Gary Lee and security guards Gener Gabato and Noli Takmo."

"Marikina police chief Senior Superintendent Felipe Rojas Jr. said Lee was drunk when he was arrested after a resident reported that he fired his gun during the New Year’s revelry."

"In San Fernando, Pampanga, Central Luzon police director Chief Superintendent Vidal Querol ordered the immediate arrest of SPO2 Nicanor Pagado of the San Marcelino, Zambales police after witnesses said Pagado fired his gun on New Year’s Eve."

"Tony Martin was commenting after listeners to BBC Radio 4's Today programme gave their backing to the idea of legislation which would authorise home-owners to use any means to defend their property from intruders."

After defending himself as the authorities could not, Martin ended up serving more jail time than the burglar, and even now, as this stupid headline testifies, HE is treated as the wrongdoer.

UK: MP calls Radio 4 listeners 'bastards' over vigilante vote

"Listeners to BBC Radio 4's Today programme were asked to suggest a piece of legislation to improve life in Britain, with the promise that an MP would then attempt to get it onto the statute books.

But yesterday, 26,000 votes later, the winning proposal was denounced as a 'ludicrous, brutal, unworkable blood-stained piece of legislation' - by Stephen Pound, the very MP whose job it is to try to push it through Parliament."

"Mr Pound's reaction was provoked by the news that the winner of Today's 'Listeners' Law' poll was a plan to allow homeowners 'to use any means to defend their home from intruders' - a prospect that could see householders free to kill burglars, without question."

" 'The people have spoken,' the Labour MP replied to the programme, '... the bastards.' "

-------
Yeah, those bastards who want to defend their homes and their families and cannot afford armed guards or elite status. Those bastards, who threaten your power-hungry rule and want the power and the responsibility for their own safety. Those bastards who are getting tired of being subjects instead of being free to protect themselves not only against armed thugs, but against government tyranny.

Those bastards!

MO: Woman Sues Over Arrest Related To $2 Parking Ticket

FULL TEXT BELOW:
A central Missouri woman arrested for a failure to pay a $2 parking ticket has joined her husband in filing a federal civil-rights lawsuit.

The suit brought last month by Ann Robinette of Centralia names as defendants police, other city officials and the town of Centralia itself. The co-plaintiff is Eric Robinette, who also had an unpaid ticket.

The flap dates to April, when Ann Robinette parked her car outside the Centralia Community Center. She was ticketed for being in a spot reserved for police. She missed her May court date, so an arrest warrant was issued.

Just after 1 a.m. on June 7, the officer who wrote the ticket went to the Robinette home, served the warrant and arrested her.

In September, the city attorney dismissed both tickets on a technicality.

-------
MORE INFO: The city didn't have a law on the books stating spaces were supposed to be reserved for the police.

In an interesting aside... the woman was arrested by a cop who was trying to buy the woman's mother's house, but for some reason the deal fell through.

What do they do to speeders? Lethal injection?

"The city, which has a population of about three million, finished 2003 with 599 homicides, police said Thursday. That was down from 648 a year earlier and the first time since 1967 the total dipped below 600. Still, the third-largest U.S. city outpaced all others for the second time in three years. New York City, with about three times the population, ended the year with 596 homicides. Los Angeles, which had the most murders in 2002 at 658, wound up 2003 with an estimated total just under 500."

"Chicago's new police superintendent, Philip Cline, joined colleagues elsewhere in blaming homicides largely on a volatile mix of gangs, guns and drugs."

The assailant, who was about 1.8m tall, had demanded cash from the till and been given a sum of money in notes and coins before running from the store, police said in a statement.

"Guns killed more than 5000 people in Australia in the past decade. Nine out of 10 of the victims were male and most of them killed themselves."

"The number of deaths caused by firearms dropped almost 50 per cent between 1991 and 2001, with the biggest yearly fall in deaths coming after the 1996 Port Arthur massacre."

"A report by the Australian Institute of Criminology released yesterday found that the number of deaths caused by guns each year dropped to 333 in 2001 from 629 in 1991."

-------
It is telling that this report is trying to draw a causative link between gun control and decreased deaths, when no such link has been proven. Some questions that haven't been answered:

1 - Firearms deaths have decreased, but what about violent victimizations using firearms?

2 - What about deaths by other means?

3 - Could a drop be partially attributed to the fact that no one has gone on a mass shooting spree a la Port Arthur?

Brady View: "Chicago police shooting innocent children"

The Brady Campaign to Eradicate Private Firearms Ownership loves telling us how many "children" die and are injured by "gun violence" -- as if all these "children" are innocent. As if none of them deserved and earned the bullet(s) they received.

Here we have a case of Chicago police shooting a 14-year-old -- a "child" according to age, and another statistic for the gun banners to use to their mutual perpetual delight.

However, the "child" pointed a firearm at the police. Perhaps the gun banners would rather the cops had scolded the "child", or consulted him about his hardships, hoping he didn't blow their brains out.

CANBERRANS have handed in 660 handguns as part of a gun amnesty and buyback scheme.

ACT police said owners of the guns had been paid more than $1 million for their weapons.

The buyback was introduced nationally from July 1 last year as part of a crackdown on handguns.

ACT laws prohibit the possession of handguns which are more than 0.38 inches in calibre, have a barrel length of less than 120 millimetres or have a capacity of more than 10 rounds.

Nationally, more than $43 million has been spent on buying back around 35,000 handguns. The buyback scheme ended in the ACT on December 31.

The people who haven't registered by now aren't going to. And the criminals never were going to, and their ranks are probably not counted in those official estimates."

Six person died and 74 other were injured as a result of firecracker blasts in Negros Occidental before and after the New Year celebrations.

A grenade throwing also occurred in Murcia, Negros Occidental, which led to the injury of a person, while a policeman was arrested for firing indiscriminately his gun despite the ban and the repeated warning of dismissal from the service for doing so.

Arrested for firing his .45-caliber pistol was Police Officer 3 Leonero Leonardo, a member of the Cadiz City police station. He was placed under restriction on orders of Senior Supt. Vicente Ponteras.

But only cops are responsible enough to have guns, right Sarah?
