"Homicide statistics for 2008 in Seattle do not justify a proposal by anti-gun Mayor Greg Nickels to ban legally-carried handguns from public property, nor his plan to lobby for a change in the state’s preemption law, the Bellevue-based Second Amendment Foundation said today."
"'Less than half of Seattle’s homicides in 2008 involved firearms,' noted SAF founder Alan Gottlieb, 'and about one-third were gang-related. Yet Mayor Nickels would have the public believe there is a dire need to violate state statute and the civil rights of law-abiding gun owners, by challenging a state preemption statute that has stood for more than two decades as a model of efficiency and effectiveness that other states have copied.'" ... |

On 5 April, 1973, Robert Heinlein, noted science fiction author and graduate of the United States Naval Academy, delivered the James Forrestal Memorial Lecture to the Brigade of Midshipmen at his alma mater. . .
It was a time of turmoil and doubt. . . .American soldiers were coming home from the second . . . unpopular war in a generation. Midshipmen in Heinlein's time proudly wore their uniforms off post and were hailed . . . By 1973, Naval and Marine officer candidates rarely wore their uniforms off post, for when they did, the girls would spit on them and call them "babykillers."
As for Heinlein, he had no doubts, and in his speech he tried to get across to the midshipmen that they should have none either. ... |

"I had pretty much made up my mind to step away from the rancorous, and apparently endless, debate between the 'pragmatists,' on the one hand, and the '3 percenters,' on the other. It's an argument that will pretty clearly never be 'won' by anyone, except perhaps the citizen disarmament advocates. After catching up on my reading ... and seeing the intensity of vitriol* some of the more outraged 'prags' have seen fit to direct at Mr. Vanderboegh and his 'merry band,' I feel compelled to once again wade into the fray." ...

"Dan Thomasson's Dec. 10 column, 'Guns in National Parks will cause mayhem,' was a very-overdone attempt to sensationalize something small into something big. Basically, the change is whatever concealed-carry law a state has, it will also apply to national parks within the state. Nothing really earth shattering. Since concealed-carry permit holders are not shooting up their home towns, they will probably not begin shooting up national parks. I don't see anything to be alarmed about here. There is however, something alarming about a national syndicated columnist demonstrating such ignorance and arrogance concerning the Constitution and Supreme Court." ... |

"This was a hard piece to write, because guns by definition are manly, except for Berettas, gold-plated TEC9s, .25 caliber pistols or anything made by the French. To simplify things, I have limited it to modern cartridge firearms a man might, can, and should collect and shoot. There are certainly other manly weapons, and you may have a different list. As long as the list contains nothing French, gold-plated, .25 or with pearl grips (which Patton correctly observed are the mark of a New Orleans pimp), it is a good list." ... |

GeorgiaCarry.Org has filed its reply brief in the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals for its appeal of its case against the City of Atlanta for illegally threatening to arrest Georgia Firearm License holders for carrying firearms in the unsecured areas of the Airport.

The suspect was hit in the chest and leg but is expected to live. An investigation is under way, but Gwyn said it's unlikely Smith will face any charges. |
