Gunshots on Saginaw’s East Side led to a parolee spending his New Year’s Eve in jail.

About 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31, Michigan State Police troopers in the area of Wilkins and Cambrey streets heard “consistent celebratory gunfire,” according to Special 1st Lt. David Kaiser. The cacophony continued and troopers pinpointed its origins to a house on the corner of Van Etten and Gallagher streets.

Troopers received backup before contacting those at the residence. As troopers and Saginaw police officers approached the house, a 26-year-old man stepped outside with a pistol in his hand, Kaiser said.

Florida's "Stand Your Ground" self-defense law has been associated with a surge in teen deaths by homicide with a firearm, a new study suggests.

The 2005 law, making it legal to respond to a perceived threat with lethal force even when it might be possible to safely flee, has previously been linked to a 32% increase in firearm homicides of adults in Florida, researchers report in Injury Prevention. The current study suggests that gun homicides among adolescents also surged 45% after the law took effect.

But following a December 2018 filing from Tim Cotton, the court-appointed lawyer representing John, arguing that Wyoming’s new “stand your ground” law made John immune from prosecution, Wilking determined that she would have to hold a hearing to determine application of the law. At the beginning of that hearing, she asked lawyers to appeal whatever determinations she would make, noting that the case concerned legislation untested in Wyoming’s criminal courts.

In his announcement, Davis highlights his voting record regarding abortion and Second Amendment issues in the General Assembly.

Ralph Northam is about to make the biggest tactical mistake in Virginia since Cornwallis decided to park his army at Yorktown. With his attempt to force local commonwealth’s attorneys and sheriffs in Second Amendment sanctuaries to enforce his unconstitutional gun laws, Governor Northam is setting himself up for a catastrophic failure. In fact, there’s no way for Northam to win the fight he seems intent on picking with Virginia gun owners and Second Amendment sanctuaries.

Harris said that he fully supports the conclusion of the Heller decision handed down by the United States that the right to possess firearms is an individual right rather than a collective right held by a government sanctioned militia, and he said that the current red flag law prototypes would take away the constitutional rights by ex parte legal proceedings, proceedings in which the subject of a judge’s temporary ruling is not permitted to take part, and in Harris’s estimation, is therefore denied their constitutional right to due process.

A federal judge has delayed a case involving a Honolulu man who sued the police, city and state in 2018 over the ban on stun guns for personal protection in Hawaii.

U.S. District Court Judge Helen Gillmor wants to see how a Second Amendment case before the U.S. Supreme Court plays out before making a decision on the lawsuit filed by Andrew Namiki Roberts, according to Alan Beck, one of his attorneys.

That Supreme Court case involves New York City’s gun transport laws. The New York State Rifle & Pistol Association sued the city over its ban on transporting a handgun outside the city limits. The debate is whether that’s consistent with the constitutional right to travel.

In 2017, Texas passed a law allowing people with concealed carry permits to bring their weapons to church. The law was a response to the church shooting in Sutherland Springs, Texas, that left 26 dead before the shooter was shot and killed by a resident outside the church.

Sunday’s shooting launched an internal debate among Christians about whether Christians should kill in self-defense.

The following tweet is an example of the pushback:
