"I’ve just finished reading the 122 pages of Diane Feinstein’s latest 'gun-control' bill, Senate Bill S.150, and was surprised to find some important things missing."
"... but first, here’s what’s missing."
"1. Criminals"
"Nothing addresses criminals — everything is aimed at innocent people who haven’t done anything wrong. There is not even any 'malum in se' (legalese for intent to do wrong) or criminal intention. It is all 'malum prohibitum' (wrong because we say so), the worst kind of bureaucratic and government abuse — crime by decree. The critics appear to be right. This is not about gun control, it is purely about control. ..." ... |

"Today’s debate on Gun Control is largely framed by two diametrically opposed perspectives. On the one hand, many proponents of gun rights hold the position that the Second Amendment affords an unrestricted right to keep and bear any arms of our choosing, subject to exactly zero restrictions. All Americans, they argue, regardless of mental capacity, prior conviction status, etc. are guaranteed the right by the Constitution to keep and bear any arms they wish. On the opposing side, many gun control proponents advocate complete civilian disarmament. In their minds, the average person simply can’t be trusted to own firearms. They believe that in a gun-free world, crime would simply cease to exist. . . ." ... |

An honest debate starts with facts, proceeds to the problem, and ultimately to a solution. The facts are that innocent people, young and old, are being massacred. The killers are using available weapons such as handguns, rifles, clubs, hammers, knives, shotguns, fists, feet and sundry other things. All of the above are lawfully bought and possessed under the Constitution. States and the federal governments have placed restrictions on automatic weapons and such things as mortars, hand grenades, flame throwers, and explosives. "As controversial as the various proposals for gun control legislation have been in the wake of the Newtown shooting, one idea that’s managed to survive the debate and gain some traction, even among gun owners, is universal background checks."

In his prepared remarks, Mr. LaPierre will say, “When it comes to the issue of background checks, let’s be honest: Background checks will never be ‘universal’ because criminals will never submit to them.” |
