Thanks to my tiny hands, a micro-compact pistol has the best ergonomics for me. Which is why my carry gun is small, like the new Taurus GX4.

However, I've found that certain 9mm ammunition works better in semi-auto compact and subcompact carry pistols. Still, one round that is always near the top of any 9mm pistol shooter favorites is Federal HST 124gr JHP.

A sizeable portion of the new firearms launched at SHOT Show in Las Vegas each year are shotguns, and tracking down all the new scatterguns in the miles of aisles can be a challenge. We’ve made it a mission at American Hunter to track down the best new shotguns on display at the show each year, and there is a lot to be excited about for 2024. As the days grow longer and the weather warms we’re reminded that it will soon be time to get back outside, and whether your outdoor activities lead you to the turkey woods, a blind in a marsh, across upland fields, a clay target course (or some combination of those), we’ve got a full listing of the new shotguns that will help you make the most of your time outdoors.

Judging by the new shotguns of SHOT Show 2024, it’s clear that gun makers are anticipating an as-yet untapped horde of optic-buyers: duck and upland hunters. Several manufacturers have introduced dedicated waterfowl (and in some cases, upland) shotguns with receivers that are pre-cut to directly mount red-dots — no Pic rail needed. Both the Mossberg 940 JM Pro Waterfowl and Beretta’s first-ever snow goose gun, the Arctic Fox, are optic-ready. Meanwhile, Aimpoint unveiled its Acro S-2, a rib-mounted red dot designed specifically for clay and wingshooters.

With the Biden Administration’s arbitrary 90-day ban on new firearms export license approvals set to expire, lawmakers are moving to "crack down on the unnecessary export" of American guns. U.S. Rep. Norma J. Torres (D-CA-35) and Joaquin Castro (D-TX-20), along with U.S. Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), penned a five-page letter to Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, whose department currently oversees firearm exports, to set sweeping restrictions on the practice.

Several gun control proposals are gaining momentum in the State Capitol. On Tuesday, one of them crossed the halfway point. Now, it’s a few votes away from the governor’s desk. Senate Majority Leader Peter Wirth’s proposal is pretty simple, it would ban guns inside all polling places across New Mexico and within 100-feet of the main entrance. That would be on Election Day and during early voting periods.

The bill (HB 1223), approved by the Republican-controlled House Criminal Justice Subcommittee, would reverse an age requirement that was included in a school-safety law passed after the 2018 massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland.

There was one mass murder at a school in 2022. That attack happened in Uvalde, Texas. The United States Department of Justice recently released a report on that attack. The DOJ said law enforcement failed. They said school officials failed.

As expected, President Joe Biden called for more of the same. That is simply unacceptable.
