... "Restraints like requiring a declaration of war to commit troops and holding those troops to an Oath-Keeping standard are hardly reflective of 'progressive' ideology. Nor are petitioning for sound fiscal policy, rejecting debt incurred through unconstitutional legislative actions, or the other petitions for redress of grievances they present for our consideration. If I have one beef, it’s that they don’t specifically include a petition for the right to keep and bear arms, although they do address it—along with our right to form militias—in the sidebar video." ...

"The Lynchburg News & Advance asks in an editorial 'Will debate on guns be one-sided?' The debate they are referring to of course is the gun-control debate. They use the recent killing of a VA Tech cop to resurrect the specter of the massacre and ask if gun laws have been fixed since then. By fixed, of course, they don’t mean recognizing the natural, fundamental, and inalienable human, individual, civil, and Constitutional right of students and staff to own and carry the weapon(s) of their choice. Instead, they're asking, 'have laws reducing the flow of guns and the number of guns floating around the state been tightened since then?' They then answer their own question…" ...

Needless to say, TTAG took him to task for participating in the Gray Lady's anti-gun jihad. After I emailed the scribe the link to my post Gun Owners Am Stupid, we spoke on the 'phone about the issue. A month later—a blink of an eye in New York Times time—Sharkey's backpedalled and penned a semi-mea culpa ... 'The subject of guns is complex and emotional,' Sharkey writes. "A cop comes across a crime in progress and sees someone with a gun. The cop immediately assumes the guy with the gun is a Bad Guy. He yells at the 'perp' to drop the weapon and when the 'perp' turns towards him (possibly to show his badge, or tell him 'I’m on the job'!) he has to assume he's about to take fire and shoots. Then, tragically, he finds out that the 'perp' in this situation was an off-duty law enforcement officer. This is the sort of story the antis really don't like to talk about ... To be honest, I don't like talking about it either. But unlike the antis my reluctance stems from compassion for everyone involved, not from underlying guilt. Yes I said guilt . . ." ...

The rifle’s sub-$500 msrp gives you dibs on Ruger’s new 'Marksman Adjustable Trigger,' a doo-hickey that lets anyone with a screwdriver (not just marksmen) adjust the trigger pull from three to five pounds. Ruger’s equally new Power Bedding system 'positively' locates the action (there it is!) and free-floats the barrel.
