At risk of offending the kind folks from Taurus, I don’t see the TaurusTX 22 as a competition-specific pistol at all. Sure, it’s a souped-up version of the popular TX 22 rimfire pistol with more bells, whistles and a red dot sighting platform. So, it does in fact, make for a stellar pistol to use for handgun action-shooting sports like Steel Challenge or whatever mano-a-mano test of skills floats your boat. |

While Colt produced the original Python in several barrel lengths between 1955 and 1994, including 2.5-inch snubs and commanding 8-inch Python Hunter, Python Silhouette, and Python Stalker models, the big I-frame snake gun rarely came with a factory 3-inch barrel. This was reserved for a short run of "California Combat" guns and a batch of 500 "Combat Pythons" made in 1988 for Lew Horton complete with a special "K" prefix serial number. |

The explosion in civil unrest and riots that have taken place in the last two years has raised the conversation of truck guns, bag guns, and a host of other long gun options among concealed carriers. The reason for this should be obvious. Facing large and violent mobs of people is truly intimidating, and the danger it poses is clear. Thus, this level of threat appears to be well beyond the capabilities of the concealed handgun, and anyone who envisions being stuck in such a situation would prefer to have a rifle in hand. However, in the midst of the many riots that have come and gone, we have seen the ramifications of deploying long guns during such incidents, and the results have been poor for armed citizens. |

Liberal threats of gun control and concerns about out-of-control crime in many big and Democratically-run cities helped to push 2021 gun sales and FBI background checks to near record highs. The FBI on Monday afternoon said that the number of background checks it conducted last year was just a hair less than 2020, when a record 39.6 million were done.

On Wednesday, the day after the General Assembly starts its 2022 legislative session, the House Public Policy Committee will hear House Bill 1077, the lawful carry bill. Sponsored by Rep. Ben Smaltz, HB 1077 is similar to legislation, also sponsored by Rep. Smaltz, that passed the House last year by a vote of 65-31. Unfortunately, the Senate failed to take action on this critical self-defense bill before the 2021 session ended. Please contact your state representative and ask them to SUPPORT HB 1077. |

We start with this news story out of Minneapolis, Minnesota and covered by the local NBC affiliate KARE11. You are walking across the grocery store parking lot. You look up when you hear shouts nearby. You see a car with the driver’s side door open and the car in motion. The car runs over someone. A woman is also hanging out of the car and is being dragged across the parking lot by the driver’s seat belt. Someone is in the driver’s seat. You present your firearm and point it at the driver. He stops and runs to a waiting SUV. The SUV drives away. You holster your gun and check on the victims. Everyone calls 911 to report what they saw. |

Modern ammunition is built to exacting specifications, with consistency and adherence to standards that make it some of the best ammo the world has ever seen. However, the pace of modern manufacturing methods and the need to cater to a mass market means that ammo has to fit a variety of guns used for a variety of purposes.

Not too long ago, I was the proud owner of a Wilson Combat 1911. It was previously owned by my late father; a passionate gun collector. It was one of the first guns my dad let me hold which perhaps built that nostalgic connection I have with 1911s. While the original was certainly a classic, the Springfield ‘Defend Your Legacy’ Series 1911 Mil-Spec is a modern take on what is an otherwise historic handgun. This isn’t the only modern take on this classic, though I might add.

At one time reflex sights (or red dots, if you prefer) were the domain of law enforcement, military professionals and top competitive shooters. Over time, the rest of the shooting world slowly began gravitating toward reflex sights, and today most new pistols being rolled out today have slides that are pre-cut for optics. |
