Driven by terror threats and a potential Hillary Clinton administration, sales of guns in America soared to record levels in 2016, according to the FBI.

Just released FBI background check numbers, which roughly equate gun sales, totaled some 27,538,673, 4 million more than in 2015 and nearly double the number in President Obama's first year.

The numbers do not include many guns sold to or given to friends and family.
Sales hit record levels for some 19 months in a row as the number of terrorist attacks around the world and here at home increased, driving purchases by those seeking protection. The increase paralleled increases in those seeking a license to carry a concealed weapon.

The delay doesn't jeopardize Steube's bill or other legislation that had been scheduled for discussion Tuesday, as lawmakers have four additional weeks of committee meetings before the annual 60-day session begins March 7. Katie Betta, a spokeswoman for Senate President Joe Negron, R-Stuart, said the meeting was called off because committee member Rene Garcia, R-Hialeah, could not attend.

Early in the morning of December 29, three men went into a Waffle House in Newman Georgia. After eating, they passed a note to the waitress demanding money, or they would shoot everyone in the restaurant. According to reports, the men collected about $200 and left. As they went to their car, former Waffle House employee Heather Burkinshaw-Stanley followed out the door, going to her own car to retrieve her pistol, and fired a “warning shot” over the heads of the suspects.

New Orleans' last homicide of 2016 has preliminarily been classified as a justifiable self-defense shooting of a suspected armed robber who wounded the man who fatally shot him, the Police Department said Wednesday (Jan. 4).

The department's investigation into the Dec. 29 Algiers double shooting is ongoing, NOPD spokesman Tyler Gamble said. Evidence will be presented to the Orleans Parish District Attorney's Office, which will make a final determination on criminal charges.

Recently I decided to give away an AR-15, America’s most popular rifle, as I am running for governor of Virginia. Naturally my team was met with the left’s familiar vitriol and derision. “If there were no firearms like the AR-15, there would be no crime,” they say.

The call for more gun-free zones and stricter controls on gun ownership fills the (gun-free) lecture halls and faculty lounges at universities across the commonwealth. No doubt we’ll hear similar from Ralph Northam’s campaign, too. There’s just one problem: Their plan puts our commonwealth at greater risk.

Nowadays, it's not unusual for women to take up arms.

Increasing numbers of women are picking up handguns for self defense, the National Shooting Sports Foundation reports, while others are learning how to use weapons already present in their homes.

"A lot of women have husbands with guns, so they want to use it in case something happens," said Steve Sechler, owner of Treasure Chest Gun Shop in McPherson. "Usually, our concealed carry class is half female."

On behalf of its five-million members, the National Rifle Association’s Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) applauded the introduction of H.R. 38, The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017, authored by Congressman Richard Hudson (NC-8). This legislation would eliminate the confusing patchwork of state carry laws by allowing individuals who possess concealed carry permits from their home state or who are not prohibited from carrying concealed in their home state to exercise those rights in any other state that does not prohibit concealed carry.

I cannot, in recent memory, recall someone with a concealed carry permit committing a crime. Yet, strangely, the state forbids those with such permits to carry in schools, state buildings and now state parks.

In confirming a lower court's ruling, Judge Graves agreed with them, stating "...concerns for self-defense are diminished when firearms are prohibited in the area." So Judge Graves believes that simply because making it illegal to have a gun in a state park will keep the criminals out!--were it true, no crimes would be committed using a gun.

As you know, there are many threats to the Second Amendment out there. Yes, even after Donald Trump pulled off the biggest political upset in over six decades, there are still threats to the Second Amendment. But three don’t quite get the attention they should. Academia, Hollywood, and big-city mayors are all taking deadly aim to partially or totally strip away our Second Amendment rights.

Now, researchers at Harvard and Yale have adopted that same type of mathematical model to predict potential victims of gun violence in Chicago. In 63 percent of the shootings they studied, they found that social contagion played a key role. Their study was published Tuesday in JAMA Internal Medicine.

“This paper is really one of the first to prove gun violence functions like a disease and deserves public health and medical resources,” said Charles Branas, an epidemiologist at the University of Pennsylvania who has studied the relationship between human geography and violence. Branas, who wasn’t affiliated with the study, penned an accompanying editorial on how to tackle gun violence as disease.

A chapter of the Pink Pistols LGBT advocacy group—opened in Orlando in the wake of last year’s mass-shooting at the Pulse nightclub—has been particularly active of late.

On the face of it, there’s nothing unusual about an organization dedicated to the opposition of hate crimes against the gay community opening up shop in the seat of Orange County.

The approach taken by the Pink Pistols, however, is somewhat unorthodox.

“I pray I never need to use [my gun] but I do have that knowledge if I do need to,” said Jo Martin, founder of the pistol-packing Orlando chapter, “and that’s one of the reasons I am involved in Pink Pistols; because we want to share that knowledge so that other people have that level of confidence as well.”

On New Year’s Eve, one of the city’s most beloved stores shut its doors for the last time.

After more than four years in the community, She’s A Pistol LLC closed for business, leaving behind a heartbroken community of devoted customers and supporters.

The reason behind the store’s closure is a startling reminder of reality’s darkest challenges.

Tremendous legal expenses, mounted up from tragic circumstances, forced owner Becky Bieker to make the hardest decision of her life.

In January 2015, four young men attempted to rob She’s A Pistol at gunpoint. During a subsequent shootout, Bieker’s husband, Jon, was shot and killed.

Just a little more than a week before the city of Louisville revealed that 2016 proved to be its deadliest, with homicides reaching at least 113 and law enforcement authorities responding to more than 400 shooting reports, Rep. Thomas Massie, R-SomewhereorotherLewisCounty, is revving up that old Second Amendment war horse, essentially promising the good people of these United States a Glock 19 Gen4 in every pot and an Uzi in every garage.

Massie is the grand, spanking-new chairman of the Congressional Second Amendment Caucus, founded by Wonder Boy along with 13 like-minded lawmakers who won’t rest until every man jack and presumably every woman jack and baby jack, are packing heat.

As a longtime National Rifle Association member, I take great joy in the fact that law-abiding gun owners were the determining factor in the swing states' defeat of Hillary Clinton. Her staunch anti-gun platform alienated Democratic Party gun owners in swing states such as Florida, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin and Iowa.

U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson, a Republican from North Carolina, made expanding national rights for gun owners his top priority on the first day of his third term in Congress.

Hudson, who is an adviser to President-elect Donald Trump via his “Second Amendment Coalition,” introduced legislation Tuesday that would guarantee concealed carry permit holders rights to have a gun outside their home state, so long as the person carrying the gun abides by local laws. The bill, Hudson says, will ensure “our Second Amendment right doesn’t disappear when we cross state lines.”

While progressives push for more government control over our Second Amendment rights, Chinese immigrants who were never able to own a gun in their homeland are rejoicing over this newfound freedom.

The Los Angeles Times recently reported on a gun shop in California’s City of Industry that has seen a surge of Chinese immigrant gun buyers. Gun Effects, a firearms store housed in a City of Industry strip mall that is also home to a boba tea spot, a massage parlor and a Taiwanese restaurant, is owned by a Chinese immigrant and has two Chinese-speaking employees.

A state lawmaker from Bedford wants to make it legal for all Texans to pack a pistol, with or without a permit.

Two controversial gun laws have come through the Texas Legislature in the past few sessions. Legislators passed the Open Carry law two years ago. Campus Carry also allows the concealed carry of handguns on college campus.

But State Rep. Jonathan Stickland wants to take it a step further. He has authored House Bill 375, or the Constitutional Carry bill, to give all Texans the right to openly carry a handgun.

...

Gov. Greg Abbott has not committed to supporting the bill, but Strickland said it is still one of the top two priorities for the Republicans.
