ATF position on equipment use threatens private gun-making

... "The effect of this ruling will be to close down operations in which persons who are legally entitled to manufacture their own firearms for personal use are permitted by a business to use its equipment, either with instruction or without. Provided such firearms are not intended to be sold or distributed, marking and record-keeping requirements do not apply. By changing the rules, ATF has closed down a means by which people who lack the equipment themselves to finish off a part will be able to exercise their right to build a firearm, a practice many rely on, particularly when completing so-called '80 percent' precursor receivers." ...

Huffpo: Self-Defense A ‘Laughable’ Way To Defend Gun Rights

"On Monday, the Huffington Post ran a column arguing that the Constitution is the weakest of all grounds for defending gun rights, and an appeal to self-defense to justify gun ownership is simply 'laughable.'"

"According to the Huffington Post, the Constitutional argument for gun rights is flawed because the 2nd Amendment only protects the rights of persons serving in the militia and, contrary to the Supreme Court’s decision in McDonald v. Chicago, it does not bar states or local governments from regulating firearm ownership." ...

"2014 marked a return to some semblance of normalcy in our industry. Whew, the past couple of years have been a pain. Too little product and too high prices. In 2015, we’ll get back to a sane business model with new products and broad availability. Danger looms on the political front with a lame duck president and billionaires dumping money into state-level gun control efforts." ...

"The problem with gun control activists’ stance is that it isn’t backed by any actual hard numbers. They try to massage the figures to make them more emotionally appealing, but the fact remains that virtually every statistic proves the idea that — at the very least — guns are not the problem. With public opinion shifting against them, one group has now decided to try to make it seem that the numbers really are in their favor with a website they’ve dubbed the 'Gun Violence Archive.' There’s just one problem: their methodology is flawed from the start . . ." ...

"We’ve been over this ground before. “Gun friendly” isn’t about which state has the most guns per capita. It’s about which state most respects the Second Amendment’s mandate against government infringement on citizens’ natural, civil and Constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms. Washington, D.C.? As tennis legend John McEnroe famously declared to line judges, YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS! We also have to remove those states without permit-less (a.k.a., Constitutional) carry. Working from the list above, that leaves . . ." ...

"The average person concealed carrying (CC) a firearm is just like any other law-abiding citizen. They’re welders, doctors, stay-at-home moms, and journalists, and they make up a quickly growing portion of the population here in the United States. And not only do they stand for themselves, they stand for others. In fact, legally armed citizens stop more than twice as many crimes as law enforcement officers do, and with a less-than-2% error rate compared to the 11% error rate among law enforcement." ...

"Many of the products you purchase were designed by engineers, but heavily tempered by the demands of the finance and design departments. ... But the Heckler & Koch P7 seems to have avoided those constraints. In my considered opinion, it’s result of giving some talented engineers free rein to create the absolute best, safest, most technologically-advanced pistol ever. At least, the best possible pistol for a police officer or other 'gunfighter.' The P7 has many notable design features, including many 'firsts,' some of which have never been duplicated and some of which have become ubiquitous. Despite being out of production, this is why it’s still the best pistol ever made and why you need one. . ." ...

"I began the search for my first firearm a few years ago, and felt I should begin with a semi-automatic rifle chambered in 22lr. Eventually it came down to the classic and timeless Ruger 10/22 versus the Remington 597. I opted for the Remington because the reviews I had read from those who possessed both stated that the Remington had better accuracy without modification. I then needed to choose between the various models that Remington offered. They offer this rifle in a variety of configurations including: an open sight model, a scoped model, a tactical model, a heavy barreled model, and a model with a pre-threaded barrel. I decided upon the open sighted model because I wanted iron sights on the rifle in addition to the scope ..." ...

"All guns fail. Some – like the GLOCK 42 pictured above and after the jump – fail because of limp-wristing or other types of operator error. Some – like the GLOCK 42 pictured above and after the jump – because of ammo compatibility problems (e.g., Hornady Critical Defense). Other guns – like the Cabot 1911 – will fail from mechanical issues. Others will fail from simple wear and tear after years, maybe even decades of use. Or neglect. But all guns fail. "I have been asked repeatedly to test Buffalo Bore’s .380 +P ammo. Well, 'asked' is a kind way to put it; badgered would be a more accurate word, but hey, I like testing, so I don’t mind. However, I really don’t care for the idea of a non-standard caliber like .380 +P. I wrote an article explaining why, but the gist is this: gun manufacturers and ammo manufacturers got together and created a standards-setting organization (SAAMI) which, appropriately enough, set the standards to which gun manufacturers design guns . . ." ...

Gun Prohibitionists’ Intellectual Dishonesty: Advocacy Without Consequences

"When the Progressive Era’s Anti-Saloon League pushed forth their prohibitionist agenda, the cry then ... was: something MUST be done! A problem was identified. The 'problem' of (male) alcoholism in the post-WWI period was many orders of magnitude greater than any present day gun 'problem' that could be described. The scope of drinking-related income diverted to the saloons, wife-beating, child neglect etc., would surely dwarf any criminal issue of today. Societies falling for a puerile, simple answer is nothing new. It’s a story almost as sad and long as history itself. Every dictator and demagogue, every war ... and perhaps every bad policy we can think of — occurs when the public gets the idea that a simple answer is an answer . . ." ...

"Gun ownership and civilian gun deaths are a uniquely American issue amongst developed countries. The US had over 32,000 gun deaths last year. Far more than any other developed country. Our rate of gun ownership -- 89 guns per 100 civilians -- is nearly 15 times higher than that of our closest ally, Great Britain. Despite these facts, the very mention of any form of gun control stokes the passion of the American right unlike any other issue. From the Internet trolls who threaten your family to the indoctrinated recitations of tired, machismo-filled phrases like ... "The House of Representatives opens its 2015 session on Wednesday, and the first order of business is to set the House rules. Those rules are used as much for political messaging as for establishing order in the House. The best example is the now biennial debate about guns in the State House."

"When Republicans took the House in 2010, they overturned a decades-old rule forbidding guns in the House chamber and gallery. When Democrats took the House in 2012, they reinstated the ban. Many House Republicans want to revoke the ban again tomorrow. In the debate to come, each side will get to denounce the other as insufficiently connected with the 'real' New Hampshire, as hopelessly out of touch, even dangerous. What fun." ...

"It was not very many years ago that the common refrain echoed by the media after any self defense shooting was that the police advise against 'taking the law into your own hands' along with the obligatory 'leave it to the professionals.' It’s hard to know how much of this reflected actual police attitudes, and how much was what the media wished to portray as police attitudes, but that was conventional wisdom. Over the last two decades, however, that stance has changed.  QUOTES TO REMEMBER
The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to permit the conquered Eastern peoples to have arms. History teaches that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by doing so. Indeed I would go so far as to say that the underdog is a sine qua non for the overthrow of any sovereignty. So let's not have any native militia or police. German troops alone will bear the sole responsibility for the maintenance of law and order. — Adolf Hitler, April 11, 1942. (Source: "Hitler's Table-Talk at the Fuehrer's Headquarters 1941-1942", Dr. Henry Picker, ed. (Athenaeum Verlag, Bonn, 1951).)
