I have a good history with guns.
I grew up in a family where guns were commonplace — my grandfather loved being a sportsman and hunted regularly. Since the age of 12, my father and I have hunted birds together. It's a social activity where you can walk around and talk, rather than sit in the cold like a ninja in a deer blind, waiting for some unassuming animal to walk into your line of fire.
But with all of my training and family background, I don't carry a weapon. Why would I go to all of that trouble to become a CPL holder and yet not carry a concealed weapon? Because I strongly feel I do not have enough day to day familiarity with a handgun to be useful in a gunfight. It's more likely I would do more harm than good ...

After President Barack Obama's speech calling for stricter gun control on Tuesday, local groups are reacting.

President Obama’s latest push for new gun regulations is a distraction. It is a distraction designed for the news media and the low information voter. After all, President Obama merely has to whisper the words “mass murder” and the Democrat news media will parade a backdrop of bloody victims on a green screen. Those images are enough to convince many Americans. The President is desperate because Democrats have a money problem this election cycle.
The Democrat party is desperate for an infusion of campaign cash from anti-gun groups.

Tennessee State Representative Andy Holt sent a letter to President Obama today, telling him to "take your gun control and shove it."
The aggressive statement comes just after the president's announcement that he will take executive action to tighten restrictions on gun purchases by implementing more thorough background checks.

President Obama's decision to use the power of his office to enact stricter gun laws certainly has people talking in the halls of Congress and at local gun stores. Chris Yountz, who visited Van Raymond's Outfitters in Brewer to buy a new holster for his revolver is an advocate of the second amendment. He feels the president is overstepping his authority. |
