Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson has released his legislative requests for the 2019 session, which include three provisions on gun regulation. These included restrictions on magazine size, banning the sale of assault-style weapons, and prohibiting untraceable guns and guns that cannot be detected by a metal detector. |

Europeans are reportedly arming up, “in part by insecurity arising from terrorist attacks,” according to the Wall Street Journal, and it’s a development that might give anti-gun-rights liberals in the United States a touch of heartburn. U.S. gun prohibitionists have long touted the kinds of gun control laws in Europe as an example to be followed in their own country, if it weren’t for that annoying Second Amendment and state constitutional right-to-bear-arms provisions. |

The case is resolved, as far as Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker is concerned regarding a potential murder charge, with both shooters facing a handful of other felonies.

A Second Amendment advocate fighting against a constitutionally questionable gun ban and certification ordinance in the city of Boulder says he and his daughter have been targeted and bullied as his case winds through the court system. The city last May passed an ordinance requiring gun owners to “certify” their “assault weapons” or remove their firearms from city limits. Those who didn’t could face fines, jail, and confiscation and destruction of their firearms. |

“Feds charge Ald. Edward Burke, allege wiretap on cellphone captures him in attempted extortion,” the Chicago Tribune reported Thursday. “Burke, one of Chicago’s most powerful figures and a vestige of the city’s old Democratic machine, has often been considered too clever and sophisticated to be caught blatantly using his public office to enrich himself. But after years of dodging investigations while watching dozens of his colleagues hauled off to prison, Burke has been accused of crossing the line himself — and doing so in a quintessential Chicago way.”

There’s no need for it whatsoever.”

The Florida Supreme Court will hear arguments March 6 in a dispute about whether a controversial 2017 change to the state’s “stand your ground” self-defense law should apply to older cases. The 2017 change shifted a key burden of proof in “stand your ground” cases --- a shift that can play a role in determining whether people claiming self-defense should be shielded from prosecution.

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
"And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling in terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand? [...] The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt!" —Alexander Solzhenitsyn, The Gulag Archipelago (Chapter 1 "Arrest") |
