"Other than 'THINK, dang it!,' I rarely offer advice in my articles. I occasionally tell people things they should NOT do, like engaging in the cult ritual of voting, but now I'm going to urge you to do something very specific. ..."

"If you are mentally stable, and believe in the right of self- defense, here is my advice: BUY A GUN. But not just any gun. Buy a rifle, and make it one that you don't have to reload after one shot, or after five. The classic military-style rifles are nice, though plenty of hunting rifles fit the bill, too. (It's handy to have one that takes large-capacity ammunition magazines.) If you already have one, buy more ammo." ...

"1- Brady Schemes Exposed"

"The lamestream media told you:"

"There are many good ideas for cutting 'gun deaths,' according to a Freakonomics quorum run by The New York Times ..."

"The Uninvited Ombudsman notes however that:"

"Anti-gun-rights crusader and Brady gun-ban hero David Hemenway ... has developed plans for gun bans and rights restrictions that will skirt the Heller gun-rights findings and attack the rights of the public, with little or no effect on crime. ... The plan is fiendishly simple:"

"Create the National Firearm Safety Administration ... It would mimic the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in some respects, with stunning power in a loosely controlled agency's hands." ...

"In a civil society, standing up for your rights and ensuring that authority acts within the bounds set by the law are necessary to prevent abuse of power. If you do not know your rights, then they might as well not exist. In fact, they do not exist. Only by knowing your rights and what they mean can you ensure they are observed." ...

"The Second Amendment gives[sic] every individual the right to own firearms (recently confirmed by the Supreme Court ...). In Virginia, everyone age 18 and above has the right to openly carry ... a loaded, ready-to-shoot firearm almost anywhere in the state ... Although the 'shall not be infringed' part of this amendment is not wholly observed, many are aware of this and fight for it constantly." ...

Statement Of Brady Center President On Court Decision Keeping Guns Out Of Airports

FULL TEXT BELOW:

"The decision by U.S. District Judge Marvin Shoob is a victory for sanity and common sense. Keeping concealed weapons out of Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport puts the proper focus on public safety.

"In the post-9/11 world, allowing more guns into airports would only increase the chances of airport security being breached, something that could lead to tragic consequences. The gun pushers’ priorities were clearly misplaced in this case.

"Judge Shoob's opinion, which also scolds the gun lobby for 'misleadingly' making its case, helps demonstrate that public safety is more important than the gun lobby's agenda of pushing more and more guns into the most sensitive places in America."

KABA Note: Before the law changed merely driving onto airport property with your permitted weapon with was a felony.

"My housemates brought up an anecdote while we debated the right to bear arms, a conversation provoked by the recent school shooting in Finland. The story was about a Texan bank robber who brandishes a gun during the course of his robbery and the several bank customers who responded by whipping out their pieces and blowing him away. Despite their intensions, I thought my housemate's example became an argument against allowing civilians with no respect for life to open fire in a public space."

"Though a more than 7-year-old database of new handguns sold in New York has yet to result in a criminal prosecution, it's still too soon to assess it as ineffective."

"State Police and others who sought to create the database should recommit themselves to making it a useful law enforcement tool." ...

"The problem has been that of more than 200,000 casings entered into the database, there have been only two hits. ..."

"But before scrapping the database as some gun advocates propose, more time on task is needed to give a better assessment of its usefulness."

"State Police argue that it typically takes from seven to 10 years after a gun is purchased before it's used in a crime. The database was created in March 2001." ...

"SUMMARY: There is merit in Gordon Meriwether's suggestion to prohibit guns at local government meetings."

"Every so often, the topic of gun rights grabs headlines in Culpeper. And when it does, count on a passionate response from people who, otherwise, could care less what happens in our community."

"Such was the case Sept. 9 when more than a dozen members of the Fairfax-based Virginia Citizen Defense League showed up at a Culpeper Town Council meeting — pistols on hips — to protest a relatively insignificant proposal by the police chief to regulate the discharge of firearms in town limits."

"All of this rubbed town resident Gordon Meriwether the wrong way, and, to a large degree, we can understand why. ..." [link added] ...

"On my way home from work recently, I heard a radio ad from Ray Schoenke, the president of the American Hunters & Shooters Association, supporting Barack Obama for president. I was intrigued. Traditionally, Democrats have been the take-guns-from-people party. I decided to do some research, and, thankfully, I found that tradition has not changed."

"The AHSA is a two-year-old organization that, after visiting its Web site, seems to exist solely to stand against the National Rifle Association. Just so there's no confusion as to the AHSA's stand on guns, Paul Helmke, the president of the Brady Campaign (one of the largest anti-gun lobby groups in Washington) said of the AHSA: 'I see our issues as complementary to theirs... "On Friday, a Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court ruled once again that the City of Philadelphia did not have the right to past its own gun control ordinances."

"Each of those laws has required state legislature approval before passage. In each instance, they have been rejected. Consequently, members of the Philadelphia City Council went to Commonwealth Court, asking that court to validate those gun laws." ...

"A state appeals court yesterday struck down a controversial Jersey City law seeking to limit the number of handguns people can buy."

"Jersey City's law had sought to keep people from buying more than one handgun every 30 days. The unanimous appeals panel said Jersey City exceeded its authority and didn't have a right to enact such a local law because state law already regulates the sale of handguns."

What gives him the right?" ...

"A new indoor gun range in Jamestown, N.Y. may entice gun enthusiasts from Warren County to practice a few rounds. However, taking a personal handgun could lead to jail time. Warren County Sheriff Larry Kopko said handguns cannot be taken to the new Genesee Outfitters shooting range because without a New York state carrying permit, the handgun would be illegal. 'The Pennsylvania carry permit stops at the state line,' he said. ... According to Chris Shorts of Genesee Outfitters, the range does rent guns so patrons from Pennsylvania do not have to bring their own. ... Violation of carrying an un-permitted handgun in New York carries a mandatory sentence of one year in prison, he added."

"There will still be those who, somehow, acquire weapons, eager to ravage both home and person. Sadly, law enforcement is rarely on the scene when a murder occurs."

Today, we need a nation of Minutemen, citizens who are not only prepared to take arms, but citizens who regard the preservation of freedom as the basic purpose of their daily life and who are willing to consciously work and sacrifice for that freedom. — John F. Kennedy
