"If you are mentally stable, and believe in the right of self- defense, here is my advice: BUY A GUN. But not just any gun. Buy a rifle, and make it one that you don't have to reload after one shot, or after five. The classic military-style rifles are nice, though plenty of hunting rifles fit the bill, too. (It's handy to have one that takes large-capacity ammunition magazines.) If you already have one, buy more ammo." ... |

"In a civil society, standing up for your rights and ensuring that authority acts within the bounds set by the law are necessary to prevent abuse of power. If you do not know your rights, then they might as well not exist. In fact, they do not exist. Only by knowing your rights and what they mean can you ensure they are observed." ...

"The decision by U.S. District Judge Marvin Shoob is a victory for sanity and common sense. Keeping concealed weapons out of Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport puts the proper focus on public safety.
"In the post-9/11 world, allowing more guns into airports would only increase the chances of airport security being breached, something that could lead to tragic consequences. The gun pushers’ priorities were clearly misplaced in this case.
"Judge Shoob's opinion, which also scolds the gun lobby for 'misleadingly' making its case, helps demonstrate that public safety is more important than the gun lobby's agenda of pushing more and more guns into the most sensitive places in America." -------
KABA Note: Before the law changed merely driving onto airport property with your permitted weapon with was a felony. |

"My housemates brought up an anecdote while we debated the right to bear arms, a conversation provoked by the recent school shooting in Finland. The story was about a Texan bank robber who brandishes a gun during the course of his robbery and the several bank customers who responded by whipping out their pieces and blowing him away. Despite their intensions, I thought my housemate's example became an argument against allowing civilians with no respect for life to open fire in a public space."

"SUMMARY: There is merit in Gordon Meriwether's suggestion to prohibit guns at local government meetings."
"Every so often, the topic of gun rights grabs headlines in Culpeper. And when it does, count on a passionate response from people who, otherwise, could care less what happens in our community."
"Such was the case Sept. 9 when more than a dozen members of the Fairfax-based Virginia Citizen Defense League showed up at a Culpeper Town Council meeting — pistols on hips — to protest a relatively insignificant proposal by the police chief to regulate the discharge of firearms in town limits."
"All of this rubbed town resident Gordon Meriwether the wrong way, and, to a large degree, we can understand why. ..." [link added] ... |
